Interim discussion regarding questions from the jury and Arias on the stand #81

9 days after this text from TA to JA I just can't fathom Travis willingly hanging out with JA all day on June 4th.

I know and it is very confusing and probably confuses the jury too. The only thing I can figure is she arrived at his house totally surprising him. I dont believe for 1 minute he knew she was coming over.

By then, he knew she was an evil and scary person. I think he was kind of scared of her by then and maybe he thought if had sex with her and to go along with her to some extent, he could just get her to leave peacefully.

It is very confusing. I dont know why he would just not try to throw her out immediately. Maybe he always had this way of dealing with her. Kind of go along with her and of course have sex and then maybe he hoped he could get her to leave on somewhat of a good note.

Some people think she had him at gunpoint the whole day.

I posted this on the questions forum but maybe someone could answer here. I can't watch Jodi's direct exam testimony because her lawyer makes me want to shove my knitting needles in my eyes. So the jury asked a question about "Hottie Biscotti" and whether anyone had ever heard Jodi refer to any other guy in that manner. Is there anyone that can help me understand the significance of this question?? :please: TIA! :blowkiss:

IMO, Nurmi's simply trying to establish that it was a phrase she commonly used with guys -- not only Travis -- and that it did not necessarily connote strong affection; i.e., it was not a special term of endearment reserved for those with whom she had a deep and abiding love relationship.

If otherwise, then genitally 'adjusting' and grinding Ryan Burns (aka "Hottie Biscotti") and sleeping on him in his Lovesac, a man she barely knew and had met face-to-face only once prior, so soon after brutally murdering TA -- why such a thing might convey the notion that she was a skanking, gold-digging, booty call.

She has her a 'sterling' reputation to think of, don't you know...

I remember Juan asking her when the last time she filed taxes, she looked stunned and then there was a sidebar. I really believe she kept the receipts of her trip so that if questioned she can say I was never in AZ look at my receipts. I think she also planned to write the murder trip off as a business trip for tax purposes. i believe she has committed all kinds of crimes that we know nothing about.

I've wondered if the account she used was her "business" one. It has a charge to PPL webservices for 19.95 on it. BUT where was Jodi earning money for her business? How much did she have in her personal account?

It was her pet name for Travis, but she also called Ryan that before Travis was even dead.

You know, I felt the same way you do now about the rabbit holes Juan followed her in - UNTIL I read Mormon Attorney's (or is it Mormon Lawyer?) post. It TOTALLY changed my mind. If I could bring it over for you, I would - but if someone can confirm the correct poster name, you can just look under her posts to find it.
It is the most informative, insightful post I've read about the way Juan interacts with Arias. I hope you'll take the time to read it. It's worth every minute you spend reading it, and you may come to feel differently as I have.

ETA - sorry I lost the post this goes to. It was the one questioning Juan's effectiveness. I can't find it now. - post 310

Post number 95 of the last Thread if somebody can go back and cut paste it into this 1. I cannot do on a smartphone on Tapa talk. I can't even do sentences correctly and spelling!

Wouldn't it have been awfully hot to lurk around in her car in Mesa in June waiting for the roommates to leave?

I read Travis wrote JA a text(s) or email(s) calling her a sociopath?...If true, have they been made public? If so, where can I read this/them?

If he had this much resentment and disgust with Jodi WHY would he have consensual sex with her June 4th? She wasn't THAT irresistible!!!

I am really starting to think, he might've been held prisoner in his own home that entire afternoon!

BBM- one of the biggest differences between women and men.

Assuming they had sex- which I don't think is that much of a stretch- his acrimonious feelings for her are not necessarily accessible if she shows up at his doorstep, basically offering free escort service.

Blood flow to the small head can sadly override the flow to the brain. :blushing:

Agreed about the "THAT irresistible" comment. I'd separate my loathing of her in making an honest assessment- she's a mid card/5 or 6 slightly-above-average looking at best, based on women I've seen living in SoCal for a large portion of my life. She probably targeted (and sought out) guys whom she felt vastly superior to, all in an effort to remain firmly in control of the relationship.

I mentioned this the other day to a friend- if you take a look at the early pictures of Travis and compare them to what he looked like right around the time he wanted to give her the boot permanently, it's substantial. Her need to destroy him kicked in full, because (imo) she knew he could (and would) attract a mate at least as good looking, if not more so than she was.

I don't know if this sounds strange, but in the end I think she harbored jealousy not just about him, but toward him.

Sunset Phoenix June 4, 2008 7:35 pm.

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=197&month=6&year=2008&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1

It would have been really light at 5:30-6pm that night.

She did say when driving once she left after the murder, while coming out of her fog, that she went West and the sun was in her eyes. And that means..even in her fog she needed to get straight back to I-15, the route she claimed she bought gas for because she wasn't familiar with it, going to Utah to see Ryan. She needed to get on I15 ASAP for her alibi

The only one that has said they had sex that day is a liar...ITA that he was held prisoner.

There is a lot that makes sense about Travis being held a prisoner that day. But what about the pictures of her? Couldn't he get away if she was in such a vulnerable position? Or call the police or turn the tables on her with a weapon? My mind is still boggled about that whole day.

9 days after this text from TA to JA I just can't fathom Travis willingly hanging out with JA all day on June 4th.

Let alone engaged in all the "activities" she claims.

Post number 95 from the last thread. Cut and paste

This was originally posted by Mormon Attorney, who provided some excellent insights into the mind of JA. If you have a chance, go search the last thread for Mormon Atty's posts.

Honestly, I was amazed at how he knew exactly what to do with this personality. It is something I have learned as a "therapeutic parent" and was literally delighted that he understood how he needed to handle her. Here are some examples:

1. Non-sense lying is for control. JA has no respect for anyone but herself. She is smarter than anyone. To keep control, she lies even when it does not benefit her. Not only that, but it is a "test" to see if those interacting with her are smart enough to catch it. If they don't catch her, she sees them as worthless and stupid. If they do catch her and hold her accountable, they gain her respect (even though she still feels brighter). JM showed her right at the outset that he could catch her on EVERY SINGLE lie and that he could prove it. He gained her respect - that's why she looked like she enjoyed it. She finally met a worthy opponent, not just another person who feel for her stuff. Without talking bad about Nurmi, he has obviously fallen for her stuff and has not taken her to task. She does not respect him. If you notice, she tests him all the time by controlling their direct and he lets her do it. Even when he tries to give her answers, she won't always take them. Control, even when it doesn't help her. Nurmi has failed her test. Honestly, I believe she has felt "safer" with JM because he earned her respect, as opposed to Nurmi who has not earned her respect and does not have leadership with her. It literally must be scary for someone like her to be in Nurmi's hands when he has failed her tests. (And, just to clarify, as her own attorney, he did not catch the gas can stuff, he failed to see the margins of the magazines - she has gotten the best of him many times on things he could have helped her on but she didn't trust him).

2. Authority. Once JM establishes control - which is essential - he must keep it. Notice that he constantly says to her, "Mam, did I ask you if you....." when she adds to questions. He is jerking the choke chain, letting her know he is still in control and she is out of line. She bulks back at him a few times, but eventually she does submit.

3. Follow through. JM also taught her from the outset that he will never bluff. Lots of attorneys bluff or hint at evidence that may or may not come in. But, every single time she has lied and he has caught her, he has followed it through ALL THE WAY until the bitter end. In every case, she has not gotten out of it without having to face that she was caught. While this irritated some people, especially when the point was useless, it was essential with her personality that he prove his worthiness to her. One of the reasons he was able to crack her was that she now is somewhat afraid of playing the same antics (not that she won't) because she knows he will prove whatever he brings up. As a result, she is giving up much sooner than in the beginning. Notice that in the interviews with Detective Flores, even when he had actual pictures, she would say "That looks like me. How can that be?" Even photo proof didn't stop the lies. Now, JM has shown her that he will prove each and every detail and it takes the fun out of trying to lie and control him.

4. He never got flustered. As a parent, this is one thing we learn right away. To have calm control. The moment we get angry or hostile or snooty, the child has "won" in their war of control. If they can control your emotions, often that is what makes them feel powerful - it often has nothing to do with the actual outcome of events. Controlling you and your emotions is sufficient to make them feel safe and in charge (also unteachable). By remaining calm, even though animated and sometimes aggressive, he never gave her the feeling of control. Even when he had to follow endless stupid rabbit trails that outsiders thought made him look like a fool, he maintained composure and saw it to the bitter end. That is critical.

In sum, I have honestly wondered who trained him and how he had the faith to do that right. It is very hard and I am sure he had to feel stupid chasing those leads all the way to the end. But, he taught her to respect him. He taught her that he had control. And, every time she is out of line, he jerks her chain again and she often submits. I think it has been brilliant and I am just glad the jury could see it.

Just want to say - as a therapeutic parent - I often have to handle lying and violence with the same calm and be willing to calmly go through lies until we get to the truth. BUT, as parents, we are also therapeutic and giving love because our goal is to change the outcome. So, I don't want anyone to read this and think that we, as parents, need to "jerk our child's chain" as JM has done with JA. He is obviously not trying to therapeutically parent -grin! He is going for pure control and I am amazed at how well he has done it.

IIRC, JA's mother claimed that she saw TA's family talking to the jury. It is my understanding that it was investigated by the court and found to be false.

Oh brother what does that tell ya
The apple doesn't fall to far from the tree. Her mom also was the one that tried to peddle some letters to the national inquirer?

I'd like to add co-workers to that .. she went through a massive number of jobs, I'm thinking she skipped as soon as she felt the murmurs of suspicion then moved onto the next restaurant with a new pool of handbags, tip jars, and tills to mine.

If you're working in a restaurant, is there a way to not run up accounts - ie look like you are but really not be, or is it too well documented all the way through?

Either way, she had a LOT more money than her income would suggest.

Swiping part of someone else's tip on the table. Tending bar in places that weren't large chains would up her ability to steal. "Charge" someone for a $5.50 beer and put it in your pocket? If there's no system in place, stealing in a scenario like that is easy.

And folks don't think that the sex drive in a normal, heterosexual, 30 year-old male is strong?

Pedophile?

No way...

She would have learned all the tricks while working at her parents restaurants IMO.

Here is my question:

Is there any logical reason why she refilled the 3 gas cans in Salt Lake City if she was not driving through Arizona on her trip home? I first assumed it was to remain "off the grid" in terms of purchases in Arizona on the trip back but she didn't go that way.

Do you think she filled those gas cans in SLC to further corroborate her story about filling the gas cans to avoid spending more money on higher priced gas in California? I assume she had burned all her evidence by that point, so she didn't need the full gas cans anymore...

Gas was cheaper in SLC, and she needed to return the car with a full tank, or be charged Calif. gas prices by the rental company.

Those hands are so creepy, even without knowing what they did.

You forgot the one where Jodi has her hands around Travis's throat.

All of her fingers look odd. On her right hand the finger next to pinky looks like the one on her left hand. She has knobby joints and I do think she is double jointed and can manipulate them. I knew a girl in grade school that could put each finger on top of the other like an open chain.

She is such a good liar.
Anyways around 2:39:21
She practically begs to see the crime scene pictures. Sick.

JA ruined the transmission by towing the BMW in neutral. She claims U-Haul put the car on a front wheel dolly and left it 'in gear'. Anyone who knows BMWs is aware they are rear wheel drive so you can't tow them 'in gear' anyway. It doesn't matter neutral with no lubrication will ruin the transmission within say thirty minutes easily.

She claims to have towed her Infiniti on a flatbed trailer to Yreka when she eventually left AZ so I'm assuming the BMW was still in AZ. She also says her Infiniti got repossessed at some stage.

Unfortunately most of the details regarding the BMW have not been cleared up during the trial, and it is basically her word (which is worthless) as to what the arrangements were. And ironically there is no mention of the car in the most recent text messages between Travis and JA. I do believe she owed him money, irregardless of where the car was located, and hadn't been making any payments, therefore the check left on his desk. What is missing, however, is if he was going to take any legal action against her for the damages or if they had a formal arrangement she has not disclosed.
