Im new to WS, but not the trial. That would be something! Would love to have an up close and personal rooftop chat with any of the jurors KatieCooLady could sweet talk into coming!!

Welcome BluLady! Glad you got signed up, been looking forward to your arrival. :)
xx

You'd think! In a high-profile case in CA (Scott Peterson or Michael Jackson (I think SP)), jurors who wanted to smoke on breaks had a special patio that had covered barriers all around the edges to a) give them privacy, and b) keep them from seeing the spectacle outside (although they could HEAR things, potentially). Also, the SP jurors assembled at a location away from the courthouse and a bus shuttled them to court and back in an effort to keep people from following them or hounding them to and from their cars. It didn't keep people from following the BUS, of course, but it made it more difficult.

The bottom line is that, if the jury is not sequestered, there's only so much that can be done to keep them shielded from anything that might potentially prejudice them one way or another.

As far as I know no juror has been approached in any way. If we recognize any of the jurors we steer clear. We don't want a mistrial.

I have seen them escorted by deputies out of the courtroom but I haven't seen them go out the front door. My guess is they go out another door.

I wonder what Sandy and her sister's home life was like. Since they are identical twins I get the feeling they have their own special way of dealing with stress. I know this is probably weird and might sound crazy, but the way they carry on together with the whispers and giggles, could be because they are in their own little bubble the rest of the courtroom might be so irrelevant to them that they aren't really aware of everyone around them.

Added to that some people laugh too much when they are nervous or even depressed. Can you imagine what Sandy's life might have been? I know one thing for sure: there but for the grace of God go I.

What's confusing is they seem pretty normal outside the courtroom. It's like 2 different personalities, at least to me. But that's just my personal observation.

Picture this- me in my car in the garage of our new (empty) house waiting furniture delivery reclined all he way back with my feet sticking out the window listening to these interrogation tapes on HLN radio. Oh and eating chocolate eggs. This is he life lmao

Ps the car is not running!!!!

BBM

I'm glad to hear that. :) Hope everything is going well with the delivery and getting settled.

I hope your furniture arrived on time so you have something to sleep on. What a wonderful new start for you and your brother.

Instead of chocolate eggs for Easter, I bought my daughters (adult of course) chocolate wine, it is so yummy and addicting. :great:

You know, here's the thing, as I see it.

If Nurmi is so dad-gum concerned about jurors being adversely affected - meaning, developing a bias for or against one of the lawyers - he ought to look at his own 'house' first and foremost.

To use a phrase he has used in this trial before, this latest thing is a stunt, a stunt Nurmi himself is pulling. It's obvious he's worried about how the trial is progressing and this is an obvious straw grasp.

Nurmi ought to take a good, hard look at himself and his team and the corresponding players:

Nurmi is a large man, which in and of itself is neither here nor there. But his courtroom presence is off-putting. He lumbers. He slouches at the defense table and has been seen on camera picking his nose numerous times. If I want to get personal, I can say his clothing choices are sub-optimal; ill-fitting suits are unbecoming and unprofessional. Nurmi, you can afford a tailor.

His manner of speaking is irritating to listen to. Both he and his co-counsel would truly benefit from a voice coach.

His co-counsel JW comes across both as a giggly and petulant child who whines when she doesn't get her way.

They have not done JA any favors by encouraging her to develop an obviously intentional dowdy, 'waif-like' appearance. The jurors aren't stupid and know that's not what she looked like at any time in her life prior to her trial for murder. They've seen pics of her before. The dramatic change in her appearance smacks of being deliberate and deceptive and IMO, isn't lost on the jury.

Their mitigation specialist more often than not comes to court looking like she's dressed for a night on the town (or is just rolling in after a night on the town) - low necklines, long dangling earrings. She has been seen at the defense table laughing and talking with JW and the defendant.

Members of defendant's family is in attendance very day and are often observed yukking it up amongst themselves. Disrespectful, and does nothing to help garner sympathy for the defendant.

In contrast, we have the prosecutor and lead detective who quietly sit at attention at their table. They are both conservatively dressed. They look and act like serious professionals.

The victim's family exhibits extraordinary control whilst sitting through extraordinarily gruesome and heart-wrenching testimony. Their demeanor demonstrates respect for the court.

Someone should clue Nurmi in that jealousy is very unbecoming. Clean your own house!

/two cents from an exasperated old broad who has been seated four times as a juror in criminal trials

I couldn't have said it better, thank you for a great post!!

I like that chocolate wine too. When I first saw it I thought "who would drink that". But my curiosity got the best of me and I bought a bottle to try.

I just want to add my two cents. I think it is Donavan who is egging JA on.
I have a old friend who is in Sing Sing and has been for 12 years on a drug charge. I actually went to visit him because I was very curious as to how a max prison worked. Talk about an experience. I have never been happier that I follow the law than that moment. The CO's were making fun of me because I had to step out of line to throw up I was so scared. And I apparently didnt "fit the type" to visit. It was very unnerving, to say the least.

All day long, all the convicts do is talk about their cases and read case laws. They all believe that they personally can get their convictions over-turned. They type up the forms themselves, and make the motions. They sit and talk about how they can sue any body for anything. It is seriously crazy.
So I think JA and Donavon sat for years talking about this. And read everything they could. Donavon was sitting and taking notes yesterday. Why??? She is trying to be an ex jail bird lawyer? So I ask and wonder what Donavon's crime was and how she would be allowed in the court house, on the front row, for her girl-friend's trial? Wouldn't she be on probation, parole? And cannot be around other criminals? JA has admitted to killing Mr. Travis Alexander, so she is therefore a criminal. Makes me sick and very angry especially after the stunt the DT pulled with misconduct and JM.
I also want to ask if Chris Hughes testified already and smacked Nurmi around, with this new testimony, from ALV, now will all the emails will be entered since Nurmi opened the door? Including Skyes?
Thanks for letting me give moo! And thanks for the replies!

I've seen Nurmi giving a look like "I'm impressed" when he watches Juan, too. I agree that Nurmi is detached from JA. For some reason, Nurmi's objections don't annoy me like Willmott's.

Nurmi just seems kind of lazy. Willmott is malicious and spiteful in the way of someone who is in over her head.

I've been asking myself today as I went about mah bidness: how would I defend JA if I didn't have a choice and had to at least make it look good? Tough call.

I agree with you. I think it is Donavon(sp?), the heavy person with the disgusting chin pimples, tattling to the Ripper. Miss Chin Pimples is also the one who brought up the issue of blood sugar again and the long hours the Ripper is forced to endure on court days. I think the Ripper is extremely jealous of our KatieDJJ because that is who she would've liked to have become. Blond, beautiful, poised, educated, intelligent, and well spoken. No one, Juan and KatieDjj, has done anything to be criticized for. Consider the source and consider the motive driving this type of discrimination.

Nezumi, what inspired your screen name please. I am Japanese-American and your screen name is a japanese word. Arigato.

OMG, Miss Chin Pimples.... hilarious!

I think she's there because she feels obligated to be there. This is what she can do as a Mother and will do but I see her doing it without any demonstration of motherly love. She seems to be equally devoid or shame and empathy too.

I want to believe as a mom, Jodi's mom/aunt are there because they want to support her daughter/niece, showing unconditional love even if it is undeserved, don't think it has anything to do with small town behavior, in mo...however, I believe the DT is "suggesting" or requesting they show up to show support for Jodi, maybe to get Jury sympathy, or else to throw them under the bus and prove from their behavior WHY Jodi turned out the way she did..they may be being used and don't even know it...

So I think JA and Donavon sat for years talking about this. And read everything they could. D was sitting and taking notes yesterday. Why??? She is trying to be an ex jail bird lawyer? Here's an article on D's case.

I can't stand Willmott's gaping mouth and her juvenile "UGH! Objection, Your Honor. May we approach?!" in that girly voice. Also her inappropriate laughter, giggling, smirking and overall attitude.

I would take a "deadly serious" approach if I had to (God Forbid!) defend JA.

But did she not just testify about Travis by name? I really, really hope MrMartinez can destroy her..:furious:

I think that there is no question Juan Martinez is going to wipe the floor with this buck-toothed Jodi Ann Arias mouthpiece!

I had my first clue when Mr. Martinez just allowed ALV to spew on and on and on without objection. He's lying in wait.
