2010.07.01 Cheney Takes on Another Major Case - Jim Greer

BBM

ITA! Makes me wonder if their baloney has a first name spelled P-L-E-A DEAL? :waitasec:
As i was falling asleep last night I had a revelation that todays emergency involved something exactly along those lines.
I don't know what a legal emergency involves exactly. They don't involve risks to either life or limb however so I can't get the saying out of my head.....poor planning on your part, doesn't constitute an emergency on mine. I hope the good judge tells them exactly that about their emergency motion.

This is so out of control:banghead: Is it possible that Mason is removed from the case as he has not been on that long and a public defender with death penaly experience be ordered on the case? Or is that a violation of ICA rights? What a crock with the musical chairs of attorney's. Seems perhaps they know more than they are willing to defend.

It appears Mr Cheney needs the money, he really really does LOL. In a newspiece dated 07/01/2010 we know why........

Man Wants Attorney to Cough Up the $1M

By JACQUELINE J. HOLNESS

ATLANTA (CN) - A lawyer who told NBC's "Dateline" he would pay $1 million to anyone who could make it from the Atlanta airport to a La Quinta Inn in 28 minutes - as his client was accused of doing in a capital murder case - refused to pay a man who took him up on it, the man claims in Federal Court. Dustin S. Kolodziej claims he accepted attorney James Cheney Mason's challenge, made his deadline, and now he wants the $1 million.

much more at link :) http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/07/01/28532.htm

I think that MC and AL are probably accustomed to clients who listen and heed advice that's in their best interests. What would be the point in paying top dollar otherwise? The problem here is their pro-bono client has never put in an honest days work in her life and doesn't understand the value of either their work or time. So she strings them along. I bet she tells them she'll think about what they're saying but never really makes a decision either way.
I swear at the very end of the video showing the now famous hug between AL and KC after the DP hearing, as KC is being escorted out and before the camera goes off, AL turns to JB and says 'Did you talk to her'. There's no volume, but that's what her lips seem to mouth.
I really think JB is the only one KC will communicate with and he can't communicate, at least not to the media or in court so there isn't much meaningful communication going on IMO. If KC is ignoring their best advise what would even be the point of them staying on, let alone pro-bono?? KC will get her Public defender I bet. I bet they're lining up, getting up to speed in anticipation for the shot too.

I don't fault AL for leaving or MC if and when he leaves too. If you go to a Cardiac Surgeon for a consult and are advised you require a transplant but refuse in favour of herbs and prayer. The cardiac surgeon will not be scheduling you for weekly follow-up appointments, nor would they be legally or morally frequired to do so. Same logic would apply here....I think. :)

Maybe we need to look at this from the perspective of the other client. Perhaps.........retaining Mason opens a door for arguing to delay Greer's case????

He has to pay his bills somehow. He is on a team of lawyers so it's not like the entire case load falls on his shoulders. Most of the motion work etc. is performed by paralegals anyway. I don't see the big deal honestly. I've worked in a big firm, I know how much work lawyers do and how much the paralegal does. It's nuts. I'm not worried and either should any of his clients IMO. JMHO.

It's totally asinine to take on another large case. Unless he's not handling this DP case they way it needs to. And JB isn't qualified to do the pre-trial work on a DP case. This is a pivotal point in this case. And it needs the FULL attention of all the attorneys.

What if the intended objective is to secure a plea?

I'm wondering if the mitigation specialist has uncovered information that will change everyone's perspective regarding KC and her psyche. :waitasec:

Um, JSR, this is at State level. Not Fed. Never, and I mean NEVER, is any one good defense attorney handling ONE case. Always more than one murder case, DP or not, always hundreds of little cases. They don't get to be spoiled like the big guys do. It is hell, I wish it on no one. If the defense attorney only has one big case, he SUCKS. Do not refer, do not retain, tell the Judge you want a new one if Court appointed.

Not disagreeing with you, in an ideal world, but this is not Federal Court. Sad, but true.

I think the reason many are shocked that he has taken on another case is his paucity of knowledge about this one...
he makes errors every time he speaks.

I do not know the Laws.I wonder if this has anything to do with their inspecting the evidence.Do they already know what LE.has,if it is strong?

I know. However, he is not being allowed to do his job yet. JB is number 1 cause KC hired him. (um, hum) We don't know if he is ill, burned out, or still kicking. It makes no difference. He did not invite himself to this new political issue, he was asked, make no mistake on that issue. There is a reason there, we just don't know it yet.

Great insight sleutherontheside!!

Bumping in anticipation of the press conference scheduled for a holiday.......:)

Mason is upset about how the case has been investigated and prosecuted so far. Among his biggest concerns is that he doesn't want the Greer case to turn into the "circus" that the case of his other client, Casey Anthony, has become.

Mason new high profile case Geer............Mason held a PC this morning......he is accusing the prosecution and Republican party of charging Geer to discredit Charlie Christ (governor).......Mason is planning to depo everyone from the Governor to Republican heavy weights...

I listened to that video clip twice, and if I understood that correctly, he wants to depose them before the upcoming primary in AUGUST!

HELLLLLO! This is JULY and Casey's case has a pretty full calendar with depos and inspections, not to mention he needs to STUDY and LEARN the facts of Casey's case, which is a DP case.

Someone else listen to that and see if I interpreted that correctly, please.

I think CM is going to have a full load with this new case. Any guesses on the estimated date of HIS departure??? Did he accept the Greer case because he thought it would be "FUN" too????
