GUILTY Australia - Katie Foreman, 31, killed in arson fire, Wollongong, NSW, 2011

Ms Foreman's mechanic, Jason Reid, provided two statements to police in the wake of her October 2011 death in which he said he removed "about two to four litres" of water from the fuel system after she brought the car to him twice in less than six months with the complaint it had been "playing up".

He also noted in one of his statements that Ms Foreman had bought and installed on the Astra a lockable fuel cap, which required a key to open the petrol tank.

Detectives were also handed a video of the fire captured by neighbours who were woken by a loud noise and the sound of a man and woman laughing at 2.30am.

''They got into a car, slammed the door and took off down the street and then we saw [Ms Foreman's] house was on fire,'' said one resident, who did not wish to be named.

''Those two who were laughing must have seen the fire, they must have. And if they did see it, why would you laugh about something like that and just drive away?

Trio face joint sentencing over Foreman murder

Defence lawyers representing Evans applied to the Supreme Court last week to have Evans's sentence hearing held separately to the joint hearing for Proud and Rawlinson, set down for July 3 and 4, arguing she may not receive a fair sentence without it.

The lawyers said Evans would be contesting the Crown allegation that she was "the driving force" in planning to kill Ms Foreman, as well as her role in lighting the fire inside Ms Foreman's bedroom.

They said evidence presented during the trial of Rawlinson and Proud may paint a different picture of the level of Evans's involvement compared to what she was willing to confess to.

The mother of a lawyer who died in a deliberately lit fire in her Wollongong home says she has dreams of her daughter screaming "mum, mum" as she was burnt alive.

Ann Foreman told the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday that Katie Foreman, 31, was "my rock, my pride and joy and I feel completely lost without her".

In an emotional victim impact statement, Mrs Foreman said: "I see her in my dreams, I hear her screaming 'mum, mum'.

In April, Ms Foreman's estranged partner, Bradley Max Rawlinson, was found guilty of murder by a jury.

During the sentencing hearing on Thursday, his barrister, Winston Terracini, SC, said Rawlinson maintains he is not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

Mr Terracini said Rawlinson should not be given a life sentence because he was not physically involved in lighting the fire at Ms Foreman's Corrimal home on October 27, 2011.

Trio sentenced over 'excruciating' death of Wollongong solicitor Katie Foreman

The former boyfriend of NSW solicitor Katie Foreman who was burnt to death in her home has been sentenced to at least 27 years jail for her "brutal" murder.

Bradley Max Rawlinson's co-offenders Wendy Anne Evans and Michelle Sharon Proud have been sentenced to at least 18 and 14 years respectively.

This has got to be one of the most shocking crimes I have ever read about. I'm surprised there has been so little media coverage of it. I am so pleased at the tough sentences. May Katie rest in peace.
