Bahamas - Fariba Amani, 47, missing from cruise ship, 29 Feb 2012

IMO, If this was my mother, sister, or aunt, I would want them to look around longer than Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning(maybe a little further away than the route taken, like the way the current runs?) It should be against the law to not have video cameras on every inch of these ships, even the small ones like this! Im sure it's very tough to find someone who has fallen ( or thrown)overboard but there needs to be some changes made to this system cuz it's totally broken (imoo)!

There's something very strange about this incident. Who is this woman? Who is her boyfriend? Where in Canada are they from and where is her friends/family on the news talking about this? Why the secrecy?

MOO

Did anyone watch CBC news this evening? This woman's sister was featured on the show, and she revealed some VERY telling facts about this woman's boyfriend as well as the well being of their relationship. She also talked about her sister being naive and trusting (not that this justifies anything). They also mentioned that this woman had a large amount of money (have no clue from where). However, when I search for articles, the only ones I can find are ones from like 3-4 days ago. Nothing recent at all. I wish everything that was on television could be retrieved online as well :(

I dont know If I should go into more detail considering I cant find anything online related to what I saw on the news tonight. Its strange that the video doesnt seem to be on CBCs website :S

Wow they are from the Vancouver area -
Missing B.C. cruise passenger's family demands answers

Fabira Amani disappeared during a cruise from the Bahamas last week. The family of a B.C. woman who disappeared from a cruise ship off the Florida coast is demanding a full investigation, CBC News has learned.
Fariba Amani, 47, of the Vancouver suburb of Port Moody, B.C., was reported missing by her boyfriend, Ramiz Golshani, on the morning of Feb. 29. Golshani and Amani had been travelling together on the two-day cruise between Grand Bahama Island and Palm Beach, Fla. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/03/05/bc-cruise-ship-woman-disappears.html

Missing cruise passenger's B.C. family demands answers

"The FBI has all sides of my story,” Golshani said in Port Moody on Monday. “If I had any per cent of guilt, I would not be out."

Where did I hear this comment before? :waitasec:

Amani's sister says the missing woman was a strong swimmer and experienced scuba diver who could have survived at sea for days, but the coast guard called off its search for her after 1½ days
Amani's family say she was a non-drinker and it would have been virtually impossible for her to fall overboard.

"It can't be an accident. If you look at pictures of the cruise boat, they have a railing that's waist high, almost shoulder height,” said her sister Sally Amani. “No one could just simply lean over and fall."

I have cruised and do wonder how people actually fall overboard
The railings are very high, you would have to climb over, IMO

I can't imagine being bold enough to throw someone overboard a crowded cruise ship...and yet it seems to have happened (again) and if past occurrences are any indication, he will probably get away with it (if he did it...)JMO

Golshani will speak to the press today he says

In the family's search for answers, they found that Amani had spoken to a private investigator a few months ago in regards to a man she had been dating.
She eventually chose not to hire the investigator.

Amani says as soon as she heard her sister was missing, she realized that no one from her family had ever met her sister's boyfriend.

"I don't know this guy, is what I kept thinking to myself. I've never met him before. He's never introduced himself to us. And I don't know anything about him," she said.

It's not bold at all in the middle of the night when no one is around. I wonder if they had a balcony type room on that ship?

Ok, this is so disturbing to me! My husband, 2 kids and myself just got off this same cruise the voyage before this one (on Monday). This ship is not really a cruise, but a ferry. The 2 nights includes the trip over where it drops you off in the Bahamas, where u then stay for a few days, then the one night to get back to FL. As far as her falling off, I don't see how it's possible. There's a 5 foot fence going all the way around all the open deck areas. It would take quite a bit of effort to fall over that fence! It's quite ironic because my husband & I had a conversation about how it would be a "perfect" crime scene because there are absolutely no cameras anywhere and the open deck was completely desolate. As far as the card swiping goes, my husband swiped all 4 of our cards when the three of us were off doing something else. They never checked to make sure we were present or our identities when they swiped our cards or that we even got on the ship. I really hope this lady decided to stay in the Bahamas in hiding, but it seems very suspicious and the fact they stopped looking for her in 24 hours is disgusting in my opinion.

Thank you for the insight, so your saying that there are no cctv cameras whatsoever?..and how many passengers do these ship/ferrys carry?..

There are only two ways that she could have gone over the rails IMO, and thats pushed, or she jumped. If and it is an if she was muddled in her mind about finishing a relationship, having had a few drinks, stepped outside into the air, you just do not know what state her head was in.. all JMO..

I thought this was a short ferry, unless I read wrong...

A cruise ship is rarely "quiet," even in the middle of the night. I'm not saying its impossible to toss someone overboard without being detected, but it would be tricky. The victim would almost have to be sedated...because if she was fighting and screaming, the scene would be noticeable. If sedated, she would be heavy and would require someone pretty strong to lift and toss her over.

Not sure about this ferry cruise, but all the cruises I have taken are fairly secure. When you exit and enter the ship, you must hand your card over and have it swiped. When its swiped, your photo will appear on the screen for visible identification. I was coming back on board once, with my husband and our friends, and was stopped at entry. I had pulled up my hair...and my photo had my hair down. The officer asked me to take my hair down for better visual verification. He called over another officer to also verify my photo against my live appearance. It was a bit scary....but obviously, they smiled and let me back onboard.

Is that picture of her from the recent trip? Is that the ship in the background? Do we have the name of the ship to post up a picture?

ETA: Okay I found the name it is the Bahamas Celebration and this is a picture of it...

Well this was the last leg of this trip and the passengers were set to disembark in the morning so it might have been more quiet then usual. Also, wouldn't the deck area where the pools are be fairly quiet in the evening? Wouldn't most people be in the casino, the restaurants or theatre areas? Are there a lot of people up on deck at 1am or later? :waitasec:

ETA: Thanks to our poster Janda2 who was on this "ferry" the week before, for the information that the open deck areas were desolate during her trip and that she and her husband even remarked how easy a crime scene it would be! And she also mentioned there are no surveillence cameras!

Considering that the relationship between these two was on shaky ground and that the cruise was a last ditch effort to see if they could patch things up, I'm thinking it ended up being just the opposite. I bet they fought the whole time. IMO, the boyfriend is responsible for whatever happened to Fariba. And the end result was likely her going overboard in the very early hours of the morning.

I am starting to think if you want to kill someone a cruise is the way to go. So many people "accidentally" fall over the rails that are so high it would be almost impossible for it to be an accident. Then their doe-eyed companion(s) sit innocently and wail about what a horrible accident it was and walk free. Maybe I just feel this way because I got done reading that horrible cruise site that talks about a bunch of "accidental" deaths going overboard where the companions just happened to be suspicious, but they have no proof or body so they just walked.
