Bahamas - Fariba Amani, 47, missing from cruise ship, 29 Feb 2012

Is that picture of her from the recent trip? Is that the ship in the background? Do we have the name of the ship to post up a picture?

ETA: Okay I found the name it is the Bahamas Celebration and this is a picture of it...

well I cannot believe a ship that size has not got cctv cameras..

Also with cabins that close to the rails if there was an argument someone would have heard itor heard that lady scream?.JMO

Well, I've never been on a cruise, and I know for sure I wouldn't have be a happy passenger. I prefer my feet on ground and my head above the water, even in the supposed safety of a swimming pool. The only part I would have loved would be the food, but I am not dying for a platter of cracked crab or lobster thermidor.
There is an element of danger about cruises, and that element is the unknown intentions of one's partner in a relationship. It seems that this is a way to "disappear" someone and getting away with murder. I believe that the boyfriend somehow made this happen.
Can't imagine the horror if she was conscious at the time. Even good swimmers die in oceans of cold deep deep water.

IMHO

Cruise ship crimes are left unsolved far too often
I do hope this family pushes for answers

It may be as he says.... she never made it back to their cabin

But as stated , she is a nondrinker... you just don't go over the edge

Well this was the last leg of this trip and the passengers were set to disembark in the morning so it might have been more quiet then usual. Also, wouldn't the deck area where the pools are be fairly quiet in the evening? Wouldn't most people be in the casino, the restaurants or theatre areas? Are there a lot of people up on deck at 1am or later? :waitasec:

ETA: Thanks to our poster Janda2 who was on this "ferry" the week before, for the information that the open deck areas were desolate during her trip and that she and her husband even remarked how easy a crime scene it would be! And she also mentioned there are no surveillence cameras!

Considering that the relationship between these two was on shaky ground and that the cruise was a last ditch effort to see if they could patch things up, I'm thinking it ended up being just the opposite. I bet they fought the whole time. IMO, the boyfriend is responsible for whatever happened to Fariba. And the end result was likely her going overboard in the very early hours of the morning.

Hubby and I are always in bed by 1 or 2am on our cruises...therefore we must be the old people! LOL There are usually midnight buffets and pool parties...and 24 hour access to the decks, which have bars and dessert buffets, etc. The last shows are usually at 10 or 11 pm, so they are not over until after midnight. This, however, was a short ferry cruise so I am not familiar with the goings-on. Apparently things were quieter on deck.

(BTW, The last night is especially crazy in many cases...people going wild before the party is over.)

Well apparently this boat was just ferrying them back and forth. The real "vacation" was the off ship time in the Bahamas?

That is what I thought I read...that this was only about a 2-hr deal? Or does anyone know how long it was?

2 Days I read. 1 Night (one-way). They left on Feb 22nd and returned on Feb 28th so I assume they arrived on the Bahamas the 23rd. That is 5 nights they spent on the Bahamas. I think something must have happened there. I have been looking for some evidence she was actually on board but besides the swiped card I haven't found any reason why they believe she was on the boat. I am still not convinced she was.

That's possible too. She may have been harmed on the island and never made it back to the boat.

I am starting to think if you want to kill someone a cruise is the way to go. So many people "accidentally" fall over the rails that are so high it would be almost impossible for it to be an accident. Then their doe-eyed companion(s) sit innocently and wail about what a horrible accident it was and walk free. Maybe I just feel this way because I got done reading that horrible cruise site that talks about a bunch of "accidental" deaths going overboard where the companions just happened to be suspicious, but they have no proof or body so they just walked.

Absolutely, Darcy. I'm convinced of this too. If you want to kill someone take them on a cruise, and then in the wee hours toss them overboard. Done and done. No one will ever put real effort into figuring out what happened. You're good to go.

Really, bizarre. How many of these do we have to see where someone is tossed overboard to their death, the cruise line doesn't benefit by encouraging publicity of this issue, and maritime law kind of takes over and the public at large thinks the person got drunk and fell over.

So sad.

I don't have a link to the advertisement of this cruise/outing, if there is one-wouldn't ad advertisement say if they have security cameras? Most people are concerned about security on vacation (and should be, on cruise ships especially, IMO) and I can't imagine a large ship not having cameras.

I still find it hard to believe that these incidents of tossing adults overboard in the night go unseen or unheard on so many occasions...you would think some of these victims would be struggling, screaming, etc...not all of them would be incapacitated, or they would have to be carried onto the deck in order to be thrown off, it seems...

This is unreal. I am not much for the idea of a cruise but I know I would never bother with the expense of such a vacation after being on WS for a while now...JMO

That is a big possibility, if the relationship was going through a rough period before they went on this trip, maybe things got worse?.jmo

In the family's search for answers, they found that Amani had spoken to a private investigator a few months ago in regards to a man she had been dating.
She eventually chose not to hire the investigator.

Amani says as soon as she heard her sister was missing, she realized that no one from her family had ever met her sister's boyfriend.

"I don't know this guy, is what I kept thinking to myself. I've never met him before. He's never introduced himself to us. And I don't know anything about him," she said.

I wonder what this was about. Wow.:what:

Next we are going to hear that he had a life insurance policy on her. :sigh:

Customs officials confirm she was on the ship when it left Freeport, Grand Bahama around 8 p.m. because every passenger must swipe a card to get on or off the ship. But her whereabouts over the next 12 hours as the ship plowed through international waters remain a mystery.

When I cruised, that card when put into a computer, had your photo on it

Its a mystery!

It seems to me that this was a last chance to save a relationship, was there any survailence at the dockside on the island, Where she could have been seen either alone or with her partner. You could tell by body language if they may have had a row, or were not on good terms..
