I saw the picnic mentioned before. Don't ask me where..but I did see it and I think her mother said it.

Good memory Eileen, I didn't remember anything about a picnic (or camping, to fascinated1's post). Just to be clear I believe it, just didn't remember reading/seeing it.

Maybe Erin was scoping out just how early their picnic would have to be in order for it not to be blistering hot outside. Maybe it's just me but a picnic when it's 100+ degrees out does not sound fun, even if the scenery's amazing.

There certainly seems to be a gross inconsistency with regard to the veracity of various news reports! Dont they have a marine and LE official serving as spokespeople? Nutso.

Yeah, I was buying a scouting trip that was in preparation of Erin and her mom jumping out of the air conditioned car to take pics for a couple minutes at different spots in the park. But a picnic...not so much. I wonder if both these statements - photos and picnic - can be traced back to her mom from different interviews? There's something not quite right about this.

Sitting in the desert in extreme heat is not my idea of a "picnic". But each to themselves I suppose.

By George, I Googled "Erin Corwin" and "picnic" and guess what came up!

"Erin Corwin left her, according to the report Jonathan Corwin gave to the police, at 7 a.m. on the morning of June 28 to go on a scouting trip to nearby Joshua Tree National Park. Her mother was soon to visit from Tennessee, where the young couple had grown up and married, and the daughter was searching for places to go and perhaps picnic."

Public Help Sought In Case of Missing Woman
By KMIR News Staff - email
*

PALM DESERT, Ca. -
San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help finding a woman missing from 29 Palms.

Her name is Erin Corwin and she's married to a marine stationed at the 29-Palms military base.

She's described as 5-foot-2 with light brown hair. *She was last seen about 7am Saturday morning. *

Her sister tells KMIR NEWS that Corwin was apparently on her way to Joshua Tree National Park to look for a campsite for a fut
ure trip there.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has done a fly-over of the park looking for Corwin's car, but didn't find anything

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Bernardino Sheriff's at 760-366-4175.

There were a few others that mentioned camping too. I probably would have by passed the comments until I read the picnic one which I had not seen before. Some of the differences could just be confusion as this was breaking or it could be that maybe she told different people different things. :).

Did I miss something? This is such a fast moving thread.

Why is there an assumption the alleged boyfriend is military?

I think the horse ranch she volunteered at could hold some answers. I bet the alleged boyfriend was from the horse ranch. I haven't paid much attention to the maps, is the horse ranch she volunteered at in close distance? Is it possible she parked her car and cowboy picked her up on a horse?

I guess I don't get it. His attire, fatigues?

The comment stated "it's on base…..". The commenter's SO is wearing fatigues and carrying a large weapon which corresponds with that comment. (I think it's a legitimate comment.)

Re: the picnic, I was trying to find a reference other than the Examiner one and found this post: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...ne-Palms-28-June-2014&p=10717564#post10717564 but I'm still trying to find where it came from originally (Clu, do you remember by chance?).

This article: http://www.newsmax.com/TheWire/erin-corwin-search-missing-marine/2014/07/07/id/581135/#ixzz36qJVFtbQ says

He [her husband] said she left their home on the Twentynine Palms Marine base early that morning to scout out photogenic spots in Joshua Tree National Park. She and her mother planned to take pictures together in the park when Heavilin arrived from Tennessee to help celebrate her 20th birthday.

I'm probably too focused on this anyway but it just doesn't make sense to me that she'd be out there scoping out picnic areas, or out there until 4:00PM. Where ELSE did she plan to be that day?

I hate when this happens. :tantrum: After spending longer than usual on a post gathering links and typing, when I posted, I saw "thread closed"!

Anyway, my subject is about which court will get this case after an arrest is made.
Someone posted that it will be the civilian court because the crime, most likely, was committed off base.

But, I'm pretty sure (no I'm not!) that the court will be determined after the identity of the perp is revealed. An active duty military member will be tried within the military justice system and will be court-martialed. There are three levels of court-martial in the Military System.

For those who like to read, everything is explained here (but long) with lots of links.

Here are a couple of cases where a soldier was accused of killing his wife and was court-martialed.

But, then, here's a case where a Marine Sgt. killed another Marine's wife but the trial is within the San Diego County courts. (Brittany Killgore)

(Marine was already in custody for the theft of an assault weapon, San Diego County Sheriff's Office, when he was arrested on the murder charges.)

So, who and what circumstances determines which court a case lands in? :dunno:

Thanks Fascinated1 for the camping info/link! I was just about to go look for that one.

Maybe I'm just a wimp. I can't imagine camping in that either at this time of year. Maybe in the fall, but not when it's only getting down to 84 degrees during the "cool" part of the day (5am).
