According to court documents, Sigg "unlawfully, feloniously and knowingly possessed or controlled sexually exploitative ... video, video tape or motion picture qualifying as sexually exploitative material." Lopez addressed the child *advertiser censored* accusations. He said detectives found a hard drive and a laptop that had pornographic photos of children on it.

warning: very disturbing details

The mother told the investigator that, because it was drizzling that morning, she had arranged for Jessica to walk to a male student's nearby home and the boy's father would drive them to school.

Lopez said the boy's home was only two-tenths of a mile away, but Jessica never made it there. The father of the boy waited for a while, but when the girl didn't arrive, he drove his son to school.

Lopez also testified that an autopsy showed Jessica died from asphyxiation due to strangulation or suffocation.

Her partial remains were found when two men collecting litter in an open space field came across a shiny black plastic bag, indicating it hadn't been exposed to the elements for too long, the detective said.

The men opened the bag and found another plastic bag inside, Lopez said. The interior bag was heavy and "didn’t feel right," so the men called a supervisor and police were soon alerted, Lopez added.

Lopez said the bag contained the girl's torso, which was missing her arms, legs and head. The rest of the remains were found in the crawl space of Sigg's Westminster family home, the detective said.

Sigg's mother, Mindy Sigg, called police after the teen went to her with "disturbing information," a relative revealed after his arrest last May.

releasing the picture of the cross was key

An 18-year-old accused of kidnapping and killing a suburban Denver school girl was on investigators’ radar before his mother called to turn him in last fall.

As police sought Jessica Ridgeway’s killer, a neighbor called a tip line suggesting they check out Austin Sigg because he seemed obsessed with death.

Westminster police detective Luis Lopez testified Friday that the FBI took a DNA sample from Sigg based on the tip. That was four days before his mother called to say he confessed and that there were human remains in a crawl space at the home.

more graphic details:

Shortly after police released a photo of a cross necklace on Oct. 19, prosecutors said authorities received a tip from a neighbor of Sigg’s, who said she believed the cross belonged to the then-17-year-old.
She said she was worried about Sigg because he was “obsessed with death and decaying human and animal bodies,” and had dropped out of school.
On Oct. 23, shortly after Sigg asked a friend at Arapahoe Community College about the signs of a panic attack, prosecutors say Sigg’s mother, Mindy Sigg, called police and said her son admitted he had killed Ridgeway and attacked the jogger.
She also said there were human remains in her house, and asked officers to arrest her son immediately.
This public viewing of Sigg’s preliminary hearing was made possible by a Thursday ruling, when the Colorado Supreme Court overturned a district court judge’s decision to close the court proceeding.
Despite appeals from his defense team, Sigg entered the hearing recognized as an adult. He was also facing three new charges as of Friday morning, according to the Jefferson County district attorney – all of them dealing with child *advertiser censored*.

Jessica Ridgeway case: Detective testifies how evidence led to Austin Sigg

Officials did find remains that were identified as Jessica's. An autopsy determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation secondary to suffocation or strangulation.

Anissa Jones, a sexual assault nurse examiner, testified that she examined Jessica's torso and determined there was evidence that she had been bruised, cut and sexually assaulted.

Wow. It just gets worse and worse. This young man is a true monster. I sure hope he just pleads guilty so neither family has to go through a trial.

His family was wearing purple for Jessica too. That speaks volumes. I think his family shows a lot of great character. Austin should be ashamed of what position he has put them in. And the Ridgeway family.. I can't begin to express what I have felt for them way down here in Louisiana. I don't think I will ever forget Jessica.

More detail on how he did it & confessed. That damn chloroform recipe again!

Jessica Ridgeway case: Austin Sigg told his mom "I'm a monster"

snipped (warning graphic)

I'm a monster," he told his mother.

He also told his mother he had attacked the jogger. He said he used a red rag soaked in chloroform that he made using a recipe he had gotten off the internet.

Lynch's testimony of his interviews revealed that Austin Sigg grabbed Jessica when she was walking by his car. He put her in the back seat and tied her with zip ties around her arms and legs, then drove around for awhile.

Sigg took Jessica to his bedroom. He tried to choke her with zip ties then strangled her.

He dismembered her body in the bathtub with a saw he found in the garage.
