Found Deceased CT - Lauren Smith-Fields, 23, Bridgeport, 12 Dec 2021

I don’t think this is unusual and is fairly popular with current culture.
I have had friends do this for 15-20 years. Sometimes they request a bill to be paid, sometimes it’s a beauty treatment or something like an outfit or new purse. I personally did not entertain this as I did not want to feel like I “owed anyone something”. I am not sure that my friends ever felt they would “owe”, though.
Popular music includes a lot of references to what someone buys you or you expect to be bought. I would imagine people younger than me have grown up being very familiar with this.

*My opinions

Her brother stopped by to pick up a basket of clothes?
Did he call or text Lauren beforehand to be sure she was home?
Was this a prearranged time to pick up his laundry or something? Did she wash his clothes or do laundry on a regular basis? Maybe he paid her to do his clothes?
It’s odd. Along with other odd things.

Police launch criminal investigation into woman's 'accidental' fentanyl death during Bumble date | Daily Mail Online

"The police report obtained by DailyMail.com revealed that Smith-Fields asked LaFountain for $40 to get her nails done..."

Is this unusual to anyone else? I'm asking as I no longer date and was wondering if this is a normal thing to do? I have never asked a new date for money, it sounds like maybe they had a relationship for longer than he said?

I think she asked for $40 for the drugs but said it was for her nails. IIRC the mom said her nails were recently done and didn’t need to be done for the funeral. So maybe the $40 was for the drugs her brother presumably brought.

It does seem like a pattern of lazy incompetence, doesn’t it?
It sure does.

<modsnip: Please do not sleuth someone who is not an officially named POI/suspect> ... This whole thing is looking more and more like a "sugar daddy" type of "relationship". How long have they known each other for?

It has been reported this was their first date after meeting on Bumble

The blood stain on the bed does not look like a bloody nose to me, it looks mixed with other fluid. Both myself and my son wake up with bloody noses; it’s usually way more concentrated and dark. I’ve also ended up with blood stains from other activity in bed, hmmmm, but everyone is different!

This whole situation and how this investigation was handled from the start is seriously messed up.

What makes you think the $40 was for drugs?

Per this reliable site, fentanyl goes for $40 a pill on the street, and one pill wouldn't be enough to kill her, so I'm not sure what you're basing this theory off of. Where did you read her mom say that her nails didn't need to be done for the funeral?

also if she asked him for $40 to get her nails done and then her nails were done so they didn't need to be done for the funeral, isn't the logical conclusion that she got her nails done? Not sure what you're getting at.

the website quoted $40 for a fentanyl 25 mcg/hr patch, which applies the drug through the skin at a controlled rate. Pill presses are on the street and make pills that are indistinguishable from the real thing. If she took a pill that was made on the street, we have no idea how strong it was. As such, a $40 fentanyl pill of unknown concentration could certainly kill her.

Lauren's date made no mention of the basket of clothes. It seems that when she left to go meet her brother, she went to pick up something from him.

"... Smith-Fields allegedly received a text, went outside to get something from her brother and then, upon her return, went into her bathroom for 10 to 15 minutes."

That is a fentanyl patch, very different than pills laced with fentanyl. You will notice the amount in the patch is very very small. Pills cut with fent, the doseage is much higher, and even possibly touching the pill without gloves can make you ill. It's rapidly becoming a problem here in Colorado, a kid at my child's school died recently from a pill laced with fent.

10s of thousands people have died from taking fake Percocet pills

Going West recently did a great podcast on the case. There was talk about internet rumors going around that Lauren may have been an escort. No shame in that career at all but this is valuable information that could be pertinent to the investigation if this is true. What was the real nature of their relationship?

I don’t think it was a relationship. I’m thinking more like a drink session/hookup.

Not like a first date meet for lunch to get to know each other or meet for happy hour out in public. In my group, we never invited a person off a site to the house for a first date night.
Scary enough in public!

Several encounters with sketchy people, lots of hinkiness.

The dosage listed is the release rate 25mcg/hr. This site states the patch actually contains 4.2mg of Fentanyl - a very high dose. There are technics that can be used to extract large doses of immediate Fentanyl from these patches. I have a friend who lost her son to such an overdose.
