Just now saw this article while researching controversial Psychiatrist Emily Lazarou for another case (Jonchuck):

Controversial psychologist to interview woman accused of killing mom, stepdad
Updated Feb 15 2019 05:38PM EST
[...]
Now Dr. Lazarou is causing havoc in another high-profile case.

Defendant Nicole Nachtman is accused of killing her mom and stepdad. Nachtman claims she suffered from battered child syndrome, which drove her to kill.

A judge will allow the jury to hear about it, but first, the prosecution wants Dr. Lazarou to question Nachtman.

Dana Herce, her public defender is not happy about it.

"I'm certainly going to protect Ms. Nachtman from the things I have read Ms. Lazarou [did] during other interviews," said Herce.
[...]

Oh NO! Not Dr. Lazarou!! LOL!

and again thanks for checking for a court hearing on this one! :)
Yeah. . . my guess is that Lazarou will determine Nachtman did not suffer from battered child syndrome; and that Lazarou will have made her decision before ever meeting Nachtman. o_O

Is a former FSU student a battered child, mentally ill or a liar? A jury in her murder trial will be asked to decide.

TAMPA — The first expert will say Nicole Nachtman is a battered child, a young woman made to feel so helpless and afraid of her mother that death was seen as a way out.

The second expert will say Nachtman is mentally ill, that schizophrenia made her unaware of what she was doing or the consequences of her actions.

The third expert will say that Nachtman is a liar, who made up or exaggerated tales of abuse and mental illness after she shot her mother and stepfather in 2015 at their Carrollwood home.

Who can be believed? A jury will have to decide.

The trial of Nicole Nachtman begins this morning in Hillsborough Circuit Court. Here's some background, ICYMI: @TB_Times

Is a former FSU student a battered child, mentally ill or a liar? A jury in her murder trial will be asked to decide.

As mentioned, the defense has laid the groundwork to argue that Nachtman suffered battered child syndrome and was insane at the time of the killings. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 8h8 hours ago
In the initial discussion this morning, prosecutor reminded the judge that the defense must lay a foundation for self-defense claim if battered child defense is to be allowed. That might mean that Nachtman will have to testify at some point. @TB_Times

Nachtman is seated in the courtroom, donning a black and white dress. She jots notes at a defense table most of the time. @TB_Times

The judge asked Nachtman how she was doing. "Could be better, could be worse," she said. He swore her in and asked if she understood that her attorneys intend to raise two affirmative defenses, meaning they will admit she committed the killings. "Yes, sir," she said. @TB_Times

More than 100 people are in the potential jury pool. The lawyers plan to ask them first if they can commit to being on the jury for two weeks. Those who can will then be asked if they've been exposed to media coverage. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 8h8 hours ago
The lawyers and the judge say they expect jury selection to last through tomorrow. We could get to opening statements Tuesday afternoon. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
It's slow going here in the Nicole Nachtman jury selection. The initial pool of 100 jurors has been seated for about an hour. About half of them have said they have some knowledge of the case from news coverage. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
The judge read the indictment, and a statement of facts, saying that Nachtman is accused of killing her mother and stepfather at their Carrollwood home and that she was arrested at FSU, where she was a student. Nachtman sat with hunched shoulders, looking down. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
The judge introduced Nachtman to the jurors. She stood, gazing down, never making eye contact with anyone. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
Lots of people say it would be difficult to commit to a two-week trial. Lots of medical procedures, pre-planned vacations, weddings, and new babies. Some said missing work would be a financial burden. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
A couple folks said they know some of the court personnel. One guy said he used to work for the sheriff's office and knows the courtroom deputies. He also knows Judge Sabella, who used to be an attorney for the sheriff's office. @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
Another guy said Judge Sabella was the judge in a trial he found himself involved in

"I was your judge?" Sabella asked.

"Yes." "I hesitate to ask the next question." @TB_Times

Dan Sullivan‏Verified account @TimesDan 5h5 hours ago
The court is taking a break for lunch. The judge has asked several people to check with their employers, etc. on whether they could serve on the jury. @TB_Times

The Nachtman trial is done for the day. The initial pool of 100 was whittled down to approx. 50-60 jurors. Some questions included whether jurors owned firearms, if they already had an opinion about the case and if they'd be bothered seeing gruesome images. Back at 9 am

Murder trial begins for former FSU student accused of shooting, killing parents (with clip)
Defense argue insanity, 'battered child syndrome'

Jul 22, 2019

"TAMPA, Fla. – On Monday, a judge led jury selection in the case against former Florida State University student, Nicole Nachtman, for the double murder of her parents.

It's been nearly four years since was arrested in the deaths of Myriam and Robert Dienes.

Nachtman's lawyers aren't fighting whether she did it, they acknowledge she did, but they do have two defenses on why he shouldn't spend the rest of her life in jail.

A meek Nicole Nachtman arrived in court Monday morning.

Nachtman is accused of shooting and killing her mother and stepfather in 2015. Her lawyers are arguing two defenses.

"For the record here, she is consenting to the killing of her parents but in no way consenting or admitting that she -- that these were premeditated," said her defense to the judge before jury selection...."
