Is Oprah being unfair??

Gosh...it does me!!! Stedman said in an interview one time that he wanted to marry her. It was she that wouldn't marry him. I know they live together.
It surprises me too!

I don't hate Oprah, and nor do I dislike her, but I find her tiresome. Most of all I hate all of the cross-overs in her media empire. There's not much need to buy the magazine because it's mostly a recap of everything on her show. And the show advertises the magazine... and her O at Home magazine recaps decorating from the show, etc. While I know there are other people that do the same thing (Martha Stewart comes to mind), I think it borders on greed. If you can't offer new content to your magazines, then why bother with them?

And while I can't dispute that she donates millions to charity, I also know for fact that many of the things donated are given to her by sponsors. Therefore, it's hard to tell what actually comes out of her pocket and what comes out of sponsor's.

However, I do still occasionally watch her show because she keeps abreast of what's happening in the world, what's important, new medical discoveries, etc. I just don't make it a point to watch her show daily, like I did for many years, because some days she gets on my last nerve!

OTOH, I think it's her show and she's entitled to interview, or not interview, anyone she wants. I, personally, am repulsed by rap music and think it eggs on violence and hatred in our country. Rarely a week goes by that I don't read about a rap music star who was gunned down, standing trial for something, or a witness to a shooting. While I may sound preachy, and I apologize for that, I worry about what kind of message it's sending to our very impressionable teenagers.

Oh, almost forgot... I don't think Oprah is gay. I think Oprah has talked about too many of her doomed relationships with males over the years to up and decide that she now prefers the female orientation. I think Oprah is just a very, very loyal friend and that Gayle, in turn, has been an extremely loyal friend to Oprah. JMHO.

I can't believe some people are so full of hate, so much so they hate people they don't even know and for no particular reason other than they think someone is a snob.

Now don't argue with me, Narlacat. You don't like me very much and you don't know me! See, its not that hard to dislike :blowkiss: someone you don't know.

I have looked through her magazine while at work and it seems like ever page is just an advertisment, I hate that. If it had interviews or something it would not be so bad.

I don't recall Narla writing that she disliked anyone. I also don't think she was arguing with anyone. She was simply stating that how can we hate someone we don't even know. Narla was just stating her opinion like most of us do. On any given day, I am usually bashed on the NH thread for stating my opinion. Some of us are too quick to jump all over others. I didn't see Narla doing that.

I think when it comes to Oprah, many of us have mixed feelings because Oprah can do so much good in the world, but yet she can be so mean to some of her guests. She, in and of herself, is a controversial person.

We're all entitled to our opinions.

When it comes to Oprah, we might all need to agree to disagree. After I saw her be so mean to James Frey, I wasn't happy with her. Then, she goes and does a show to open our eyes about Bird Flu and I was appreciative. Maybe She's like a lot of us--we aren't perfect, but we have our good points.

I disagree with the way she treats rappers. She has people on her have done much worse than rap curse words and violence. Many of the stars she's had on her show have been involved with violent movies.

Besides it is not that difficult NOT to know Oprah, over the years she has told us everything about herself has she not?. Not excluding everything that has happened to everyone else. If it has happened to you, or you have had it, then Oprah has been there, and done that.... So yep I think we all know her she has made it so we all know her. I'm with you Jeana, she quite frankly gets on my last nerve. I stopped watching her years ago.

While I agree that it is her show and she can do what she pleases, maybe she shouldn't be a hypocrite when it comes to things like that. She dont like how woman are portrayed in rap music yet she lives out of wedlock with someone and you have to assume she's having sexual relations with him. She has people on her show who are committing adultry, having babies out of wedlock or outright lying and patting them on the back for it. So how is that empowering woman? How is that upholding some morality she professes by comdeming rap music?

I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination but you can't have it both ways. Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk.

As for her getting the news out about things, cnn does it too. If her idea of getting something out there is taking rescue workers from their job to escort her butt around and showing someones dead family member on tv, then yeah, she's spreading her kind of news. Some of us found it disgusting and totally reprehensible, not to mention gut wrenching as we sat waiting to hear if our family was alive then wondering if one of those people could be one of our own.

She needs to go back to doing fluff, she's good at it. Ya know, you too can spend 500 dollars on a shirt and think it's a good price...oh and you all get one too, look under your chairs....gag me!

It looks like she and Stedman are very devoted to each other. I like her. I think she does a lot of good. While I don't agree with them living together without marriage, that is for God to judge, not me. Yall know how the verse goes....Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone. So, that means I have can't have any stones in my hand. :silenced:
Sometimes, I am lucky that stones aren't being hurled at me~!!! :truce:

The only reason Oprah does what she does is so Oprah can make herself a whole Ton of money, which she does.:twocents:

Love her or loathe her, Winfrey has become proof that you can't be too rich, too thin or too committed to rising to your place in the world. With 49 million viewers each week in the USA and more in the 122 other countries to which the show is distributed, Winfrey reaches more people in a TV day than most preachers can hope to reach in a lifetime of sermons.

"One of the things that's key," says Marcia Nelson, author of The Gospel According to Oprah, "is she walks her talk. That's really, really important in today's culture.

I agree, what is even sadder is the title of that book "The Gospel according to Oprah"..... I remember when she was in Africa, doing her thing for all the African Children. (Wonderfull work, they do need a lot of help)... But you know what there are many many children in the projects in Chicago (Cabrini Green) to name but one. They also need a lot of help, they live in poverty, through no fault of their own. Drug addicted parents, crime. Where is Oprah? I don't see her walking around the projects of Chicago with her camera crews, helping those kids.... So when I hear that she walks the walk, or talks the talk, I tend to think, Yeah Right! only when it is bringing her accolades.

She has recently gotten 2 or 3 child molesters captured due to the publicity from her show!!!:banghead: This is NOT fluff!!! CNN can't do that. Oprah does good public service work whether you like it or not. It IS her show and she doesn't need to have rappers on it. She owes them nothing, and her private life off-camera is her own business. If you find it doesn't fit with your values, it's simple, don't watch her!

I agree.

I don't watch her much but I know she is very positive and if she has a "gospel" it is not cynicism!
