KSLA News 12 has confirmed that Robert Bond shot himself as officers approached him at a rest stop on I-10 near Gautier in southern Mississippi early Friday morning.

According to Gautier Det. Sgt. Danny Patrick, Bond was asleep in his truck when officers approached and knocked on the window. At that point, Patrick says, Bond shot himself. Officers broke out the window and summoned medical help.

The discovery was made soon after a warrant was issued for his arrest for second degree murder in the death of Ann Bond.

He was taken into custody and transported to Singing River Hospital just outside of Gautier. There is no word on his condition. A spokesperson for the hospital will only say he is "stable." Police say his bond has been set at $1,000,000.

Gautier police confirm the vehicle has been taken into evidence, as well as a gun found inside. Bossier investigators are on their way to Gautier now.

The warrant for his arrest was issued late Thursday night. The search continues for Ann Bond's body. Police say physical evidence at the house and witness statements led Bossier Sheriff's Crime Scene Investigators to issue the warrant for Bond's arrest.

If he shot himself because he was distraught at what he'd done, he's really going to hate having to live with it (in prison) for the rest of his life.

Gosh. Their poor sons :(. They are so full of life.

I may be mistaken, but it looks like there's a highchair at the table...possible grandchild(ren).

Waiting outside the Bossier Sheriff station for a press conference at 2:30 to answer more questions about Ann... http://fb.me/2tgAnfdCn

Well, glad that he was so useless he didn't shoot himself properly, at least it might give family a better chance of locating Ann. Hope it's a very painful injury that requires pain control that might accidentally be cut off until he reveals the truth.

rest peacefully beautiful lady

I know they haven't found her but they've charged him so I guess it's just a matter of him fessing up to where she is

tragic and unimaginable for their family, especially the children

No grandchildren. Just two children. The separation was due to infidelity on his part.

Great, he cheats on her, and then on top of it, he kills her. Pig!

"The couple had been having marital problems and had been separated for three weeks," Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington said. "At this point, that is all we know as far as a motive would be."

Officers walked up to the truck, saw Bond sleeping in the back seat and tried to get his attention.

"They wanted to see his hands and advised him, 'Let me see your hands' and also, 'Open the vehicle, come out of the vehicle.' But he didn't comply with any commands they were giving at that point," Gautier Captain Vincent Nicholson said.

Officers said, instead, Bond grabbed a gun and shot himself in the head.

"One of my officers then broke the window of the vehicle and then removed him, securing the gun first to make sure it was safe, and then immediately calling him medical attention."

Bossier Parish investigators believe Bond used his Chevy truck to dump his wife's body, but authorities still do not know where.

"We are asking for the public, please, if any of them were able to call you or if you saw the vehicle in a particular area, we want to know," Whittington said.

Gautier police combed the rest stop where Bond was found to see if there were any signs of a body being dragged from the truck, but they didn't find any.

I love how this PD doesn't fool around. They post what they know and tell what happened and put pics of his truck up too!

I wonder if he tried to use his keys to get in and maybe she had changed the locks. Maybe he ripped the keypad off. Her car was in the garage and I wonder if she could get in the house from the garage or had to come around to the front door. Seems to me that if she could go in the house from the garage, he had to get her back out some how. But if she never called 911, it makes me think surprise attack. Then the keypad being ripped off makes no sense.
Also, why was he still carrying her cell phone around???
I was married for 19 years to a man who may have done the same thing, so this bothers me! I know how the rage can be when some men are losing control.
