Raleigh — According to information obtained from search warrants, Michelle Young, who was found dead on Nov. 3, was upset over her husband's trip to California.

Young, 29, was found beaten to death in her Wake County home with her 2-year-old daughter unharmed by her side. She was five months pregnant at the time of her death.

According to the search warrants, authorities talked to two witnesses during the course of the investigation. One witness told investigators how "Michelle was very, very pissed off" about a trip made by Jason Young to California in 2006

"Defense lawyers in the lacrosse case used the new law as a crowbar to pry open Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong's files from the moment charges were filed; witness statements, phone records, police reports and DNA evidence emerged."

"Wake County Sheriff's Office officials recently obtained a search warrant and have seized an object from the lawn at the house where Michelle Young was found dead nearly six months ago.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Phyllis Stephens confirmed the object has been seized, but would not identify what was taken into custody. The warrant, which would detail what was confiscated, has not yet been processed and returned to the Wake County Clerk of Court."

"But a piece of evidence that was missed were tests to determine whether Young was sexually assaulted.

According to the autopsy report, the North Carolina medical examiner never performed any, which means investigators cannot rule out sexual assault as a motive for the crime.

North Carolina medical examiner John Butts said such tests are only performed when there is obvious evidence at the scene or on the victim's body of sexual assault or when law enforcement officers request it.
"Collection of such (rape) kits is not routine for female homicide victims, unless they fall into these categories," Butts said.

Still no arrest in Michelle Young murder

RALEIGH -- Work men were installing new carpet inside 5108 Birchleaf Dr., Thursday afternoon. The workers say no one is living there right now, six months after Michelle Young was found beaten to death inside.
Her killer has not been caught.

"We'd like to solve it, of course, quickly, but it's such a complex case, we have to make sure we get our information correct," explained Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison.

A pregnant 29-year-old Young was found dead inside her home on Nov. 3, 2006. Her two-year-old daughter, Cassidy, was also found in the home, unhurt. Young’s family pleaded for help in solving the case.

In November, Linda Fisher, Michelle’s mother, told reporters, "I'm asking for anyone who has seen or heard anything -- as trivial as you might think it is, anything -- to please come forward and help find the person who murdered my daughter."

Attention has centered on Young’s husband, Jason Young. Previously released court documents show the couple was having financial problems before Michelle died, and Jason Young stood to benefit financially from his wife's death.

A similar case in Durham is still unsolved. It has been two years, and police still do not know who murdered a pregnant mother in Durham. Janet Abaroa was found dead in her home in April 2005.

Six months after Michelle Young was found beaten to death in her home, everyone still wants answers.

Investigators want to know why her husband, Jason Young, 32, refuses their interview requests. Jason Young's family wants to know why the sheriff's office is focusing on him instead of hunting for the killer.
Michelle Young's family and friends want to know why justice hasn't yet been served. The Youngs' neighbors in the Enchanted Oaks subdivision south of Raleigh want to know when the frenzy that has inundated their quiet neighborhood will go away.

Reached at their home in Brevard, Jason Young's mother and stepfather declined to comment. But neighbor Spencer Smith, 60, said his family and Young's family are aware of the television programs and the Web sites that are alive with speculation about the killing. He believes the case is entertainment fodder.
"They don't care whose grief it is, they just want to wallow in it," he said.
