MI MI - Jodi Parrack, 11, abducted & murdered, Constantine, 7 Nov 2007

I wonder what this does for McCann? In on it, or a huge mistake?

Apparently, even though they had DNA found on Jodi that didn't belong to McCann, something told them he was in on it. It looks like while interrogating McCann and by using some less than ethical techniques, they lied to him about having a DNA link and asked him to give an explanation of how the DNA got there. The answers he gave were considered by them to be sufficient to lock him up for awhile. A year and a half later he's still in jail, they find the real killer with no connection to McCann, make an arrest and come out smelling like a rose while patting themselves on the back. You see how that works?

Now that we know what we do, I'm trying to figure out why McCann would lie. I can't make sense of it.

Depending on someone's mental state and how the interrogation is conducted it's unfortunately more common than it should be that people make up all sorts of things (including admitting to crimes they never committed) to make the questioning stop. Sometimes people just break and give up and either tell the police exactly what they think the cops want to hear or otherwise try to escape what they see as a no-win situation. I wish this happened more rarely than it does (or better yet, not at all) but there it is.

The first hearing to take place on Oct 6, 2015 for the kidnapping case where he tried to restrain a 10 year old girl. Then on Oct 14 they expect an all day hearing on Jodi's murder.

News says Court documents show that Furlong admitted to having a game room in his home, where he said kids liked to play. Video of a girl that said she been in the home but left when he started to get close to her.

Furlong was in court today on the kidnapping of the 10 year old girl in July. Documents say the victim had fingernail scratches on her body, there was a steak knife and extension cords nearby. Furlong's wife was crying in the court house. The hearing was waived and trial to start at a later date. Furlong is due in court next week for Jodi's murder. That case may be delayed due to all the evidence and reports in that case.

Furlong has confessed. He says he lured Jodi into his garage (just like the recent victim that got away), put zip ties on her wrists and sexually assaulted her. He then put a bag over her head and waited for her to die. After death he put her and her bike into the cemetery where she was found. He said he had intended to kill the one that got away. After the arrest LE found names of girls that lived in that area. If he had something to do with Britney Beers I hope he confesses. Michigan has no death penalty.

New evidence released in Jodi Parrack cold case murder

Lt. Christensen showed WSBT 22 Jodi's bike that was found in the cemetery, along with countless bags of DNA samples, and dozens of binders with interviews, police reports, and other documents.

The Constantine Police Department has one binder left of details surrounding Parrack's murder. Them, along with several other departments, including the FBI initially investigated the case before the Cold Case Team.

"I've been in law enforcement for more than 40 years but nothing quite like this," said Constantine Chief Mark Honeysett. "Where you have a very young, very innocent...sweet young girl."

New updated article with new information. People that knew Furlong speak out, one is the Judge who grew up near Furlong. Furlong had also been an umpire for girls softball. From the article: 'Furlong's only quirk, friends and neighbors said, is he sometimes told big lies, like when he said he was dying of cancer and undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.'

Furlong and his wife were going through bankruptcy at the time of Jodi's murder. Also Furlong had a brother and sister living in Sturgis at the time Brittney Beers went missing. Now I am wondering about Steven Craft, young boy with longer blondish hair missing from lower Southern Michigan. He could have taken him thinking he was a girl.

Poor, poor baby. I am so relieved that this has been caught (and will be paying for Jodi's murder) and that he wasn't successful in killing the young girl this summer.

I've warned my kids about the specific lure he used to get Jodi into his garage. It's so much better to be rude by saying "No" than end up caught with a monster like him.

Rest in peace, Jodi.

Daniel Furlong, 65, was sentenced Monday afternoon to 30-60 years in prison for the 2007 slaying of Jodi Parrack, who was 11-years-old at the time.

Furlong pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of Parrack last November, in exchange for other charges to be dropped, including felony murder, unlawful imprisonment, and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Furlong will be 95 years old before he would be eligible for parole. The judge noted that Furlong is in poor health and it would be "miraculous" for him to live to be 95.

A man who claims he was pressured to plead no contest to perjury in a 2007 St. Joseph County murder case heads to trial over a civil lawsuit.

Ray McCann, a former suspect in the murder of Jodi Parrack, sued Michigan State Police, Constantine Police Department, among other defendants, in 2019.

Although he was never charged with the 11-year-old girl's murder, McCann pleaded no contest to perjury and spent 20 months in custody for what he called a wrongful conviction.
