GUILTY NJ - Martin Caballero, 47, Atlantic City, 21 May 2010

You are prob right. This guy is prob closer to Philly.

I wonder if they are checking the toll booth cameras. Getting on you have to get a ticket and when getting off you have to pay.

True, the vehicle had to have been driven on the Atlantic City Expressway so there are toll booths there too.

He could be in the water. Taj Mahal is located where the "B" is in Boardwalk.

Yeah... if he was stupid enough to show his face on ATM camera, he's stupid enough to be captured on any other other camera he might have passed by.

I really feel that the PD is giving VERY little information about this, probably much less info than they have. There must be surveillance footage up the wazoo of the perp at the casino and in the parking garage.

True, but if they are asking the public's help in identifying the guy, the more images they release the better.

Thats one thing I hate about NJ is the tolls...My daughter and I were driving back home and got kind of lost. We never could find the toll booths. Still today we laugh about it. I received a letter and a fine for not paying the toll.LOL.

Also, add to that (I'm from the area) that AC is about an hour, hour and half depending on how quickly he was traveling from Blackwood where his car was found. The whole thing just doesn't make sense...like webrocket said, there's NO way he got that car out of a parking garage without SOMEONE (mainly the attendee's that want the $$) noticing it or it being caught on camera.

There's no way they don't have this guy or this altercation even on camera, and if the cameras that are there are not working or installed properly then me thinks the Donald is going to have some splainin to do to the cops.

ETA: Also, if the car was found in Blackwood that also leads me to think that the perp must be from the area closer to Philly (where Blackwood is, Blackwood is closer to the Philly side of Jersey than the Atlantic City/shore side, if that makes any sense!) because why wouldn't he just ditch the car once he got the money in AC? AC is riddled with crime, it makes no sense that they would drive the car up to be found if they were from the AC area. Altho I've seen stranger things happen...just throwing it out there!

One of the original articles indicated Mr. Caballero used a rewards (?) card of sometype which verified he entered the parking garage or lot, but that card was not necessary to use upon exiting. The article also indicated he always parked far away in an isolated area of parking lots because his car was his 'baby' despite repeated warnings from his wife she was uneasy about the place he chose to park. If the isolated area was near trees, the perp could have been easily hidden awaiting a victim.

I wondering if the subject had to go over a bridge from where the carjacking occurred and where the car was found.

Yr right. LE prob has tons of evidence (through videos) and hopefully knows the general area where the victim might be.

Praying for his family

That is helpful to know Cubby. Living in NJ and being familiar with the ubiquitous tolls, the only way that system would work (as you described it) would be if people paid upon entry (and in his case swiped a card). Otherwise, how would his exit be free or stated differently, how would the parking garage people know who used a card to get in unless they had to use it to get out?

Ah this is so sad.

Very sad. :( And as someone posted, he just wanted his daughter to have a wonderful 21st birthday. :(

I'm hoping maybe he is somewhere hurt. Doesn't remember who he is or can't identify himself.

While it is not looking good, I am holding out hope....
and praying for his family.

Capt. David Harkins, of the Gloucester Township Police Department in Camden County, said officers found Caballero's Lincoln badly burned about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. There was no body inside, and the fire was ruled arson by the Camden County Fire Marshal's Office, Harkins said.

About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Cruz said, her brother in North Bergen received a phone call from the police about the burned-out car. Harkins said his department contacted someone Saturday morning to find the owner of the car, but "at the time, we didn't know the person had been listed as missing," he said.

"At that point, we went to the Atlantic City police station and told them what was going on," Cruz said. "We filed a claim, they gave us a case number and they reported him as a missing person."

I tried to find information on parking at the Taj Mahal.

This is what I found in connection with one of the restaurants at the Taj:

Trattoria Il Mulino located in Trump Taj Mahal is now serving lunch from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm, Wednesday through Sunday. Enjoy a prix-fixe menu of $15.95 for three courses. Choose from antipasta, home made soup, pasta and dessert for one great price. Of course, many other selections on their fabulous menu are also available. FREE short-term parking is available in porte cochere.

Is it possible there was no parking lot attendant here?

Im going to go ask my daughters, they go their alot. brb

I would hope that there would DEFINATELY be cameras in the free parking area even more, since there wouldn't be an attendant there. Hopefully the police do have the footage and just haven't released it yet. And good point about the tolls, they definately should have that info at the least.

So sad that this happened like everyone else said, you go to the casinos to have fun and celebrate and someone upends your life, for $300.00. Hardly worth it.

And Blackwood has it's nice parts to it as that poster commented on the article stated, but it also has it's areas that are not so nice and it's not flanked by the best of cities in the world either...wouldn't shock me that the perp is from there.

ETA: I'm an ETA fool today..sorry! But, I just went back to the first page and looked at the pic of his car and he has an e-z pass on his windshield.

thanks for the ez pass observation.

not to sound stupid, but I should have asked this a long time ago on this website. What is ETA? I think ITA = in total agreement, BBB is bolded by me.

you have me completely confused. What I was trying to describe and as I understood the earlier article is this was a membership card of sometime for the casino he used to access the casino's parking lot or garage. Something similiar to a debit card with a magnetic strip which would allow access into the parking area once the casino member swiped it, so it was issued by the casino. It was the casino which verified his card was used to enter their parking area. I'm confused at to how that relates to any state toll way or toll roads. Can you explain?

I can easily see a gated entrance where a member would swipe the card, gate opens to enter the parking area. Upon exit those metal strips that destroy tires might be at the exits to keep people from entering the wrong way... hence they could exit without needed the card.

TIA

I could be wrong, but I had the impression he parked in an outside lot rather than a garage which might have better survellience. Does anyone know for sure?
