Any news?

Amanda, I really like the background pattern on the album. :)

Wow good find. Very interesting to see now the reports don't mention anything about escorting. And I read previously she went with her boyfriend, now it is being reported as a male friend. I am wondering if there is a distinction or more inaccurate reporting.

This one is still saying that her family claims she is a "sex worker"

And this one says her family said she "could possibly be engaging in prostitution"

According to a facebook page they set up, her family and friends have had a few events. But no pics, and more frustrating, no news coverage.

According to her family, Alvarado could possibly be engaging in prostitution.

New to the site and to missing persons' cases, but the way this is phrased, I'm not convinced the prostitution angle is anything more than speculation. I'm imagining the exchange between the family and law enforcement, or the media:

"Could she have been engaging in prostitution?"
"I mean, I wouldn't expect so, but I guess it's possible..."

It's reported in one paper and the rest embellish from there. Young woman, missing from a lower-income neighborhood (I'm guessing based on Google Streetview), may be in Atlantic City... the prostitution story comes easily, but at this point I'm not sure it's any more than an assumption.

Ordinarily I wouldn't pay much attention to the prostitution (which was originally described as escorting BTW). But since we know that there has been a recent serial killer targeting prostitutes in AC, this is a very Important aspect to be aware of. I think that LE is well aware or the importance of this issue as well, so I tend to believe it may be a little more than just a vague possibility. But this is just my opinion....

Did law enforcement state she was a sex worker? My impression was that the prostitution line could have been the reporter's, and the "possibly" made it seem awfully speculative. It didn't seem certain enough to take as fact, is all I'm saying.

Edit: On second look, one of the links seems to be a press release from the police department. My mistake.

Second edit: But would a police department refer to itself as "the authorities"? Time to retreat back into lurking until I know what the hell I'm talking about. Carry on.

:welcome4: Fox. great to have you aboard.
Please don't go into lurkdom.... Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's!

Welcome to WebSleuths, likeafox!! It's great to have you!

According to the news articles I've read, LE hasn't stated anything one way or another regarding her being a prostitute or engaging in prostitution when she went missing. The reports of her being a prostitute, and a "sex worker" came directly from her family, according to the media.

It's rare that the family members would outright claim that their loved one is a prostitute, especially in a missing persons investigation. Usually, whether she is one or not, the family wants to deflect all attention away from that aspect as it tends to mean she will not get as much media coverage and the cops may not treat it as serious. That has been the complaints, in the past from family members of missing prostitutes at least.

Please don't go lurking again! Your opinion is valuable and we are so glad you are here!

:seeya:

I think most families would say "impossible" in answer to a question about their loved one being a sex worker, unless it was, at least possible and they want to make sure LE covers all bases. I mean, of course, anything is possible, but really, I would hope my family would not say "it's possible" about me just because someone asked. JMO and not even sure her family did say this.

Also remember... "the media" usually has 3 different stories, rarely matching, and don't know what they are talking about in many cases... some of it is just copy, paste, slap-it-together fast.

I am more inclined to believe the outraged brother who got the paragraphs removed.

And still, I don't think it matters if she is a sex worker or not.

It DOES matter. #1 Because there is a serial killer in AC that has targeted prostitutes. #2 Because that determines the types of people she would come in contact with.

It doesn't mean she is less important as a missing person, but it does change the parameters of the case.
