PA PA - Jennifer Shadle, 48, State College, 15 May 2014

Family, Ferguson Township police hope for new leads in search for missing woman
Jennifer Cahill-Shadle walked out of the North Atherton Street Wal-Mart around 5 p.m. on May 15 and has not been seen since.

As the new year approaches, police and family are asking for anyone who may have seen or talked to her around that time to come forward. There have been no fresh leads recently, Ferguson Township Police Chief Diane Conrad said, and information has been scarce all along.

“We haven’t got anything new lately,” she said. “We didn’t have much to begin with.”

There have been leads. She was reportedly sighted three times: once in Ohio and twice in Pennsylvania, said Detective Jonathan Mayer, who heads the investigation. These were later determined not be Cahill-Shadle, Mayer said.

Police are also still hoping to speak with four men Cahill-Shadle was sighted with at Champs Sports Grill on May 2, just less than two weeks before she vanished. They have been unable to identify or speak to the men but are still trying, Mayer said.

Local searches also yielded nothing. Ferguson Township police partnered with other local law enforcement to conduct them using ATVs, helicopters and dogs, Mayer said.

The investigation is still being treated as an open one, Mayer said. There is no evidence that anyone else was involved with her disappearance, which limits measures police can take. They can’t obtain search warrants for bank accounts or phone records because there is no indication something criminal happened, Conrad said. There is also no indication that Cahill-Shadle left the state, she said, which keeps the FBI and other federal agencies out of the investigation.

Why would her family not provide bank account or phone records to LE or grant them access?

One Year Later, Woman's Disappearance Still a Mystery
May 15, 2015

Jennifer Cahill-Shadle disappeared one year ago Friday and dead-end leads have left police, family and friends still desperate to find out what could have happened to her.

As the anniversary of her disappearance arrives, Cahill-Shadle's cousin Amy Mekelberg says, "The only thing that we hope for is that there is some sort of progress and new leads."
Ferguson Township Detective Jonathan Mayers, who is heading the investigation, says there is still no proof that there was a crime involved in Cahill-Shadle's disappearance, which has made it hard for police to obtain search warrants.

Cahill-Shadle was believed to have been sighted in both Ohio and Pennsylvania but after further investigation it was discovered that those sightings were not Cahill-Shadle, according to Mayers.

<respectfully snipped>

It seems like I've been following this case for a very long time. It's hard to believe that they have never found Jennifer. I feel so bad for her poor Mom - in the video she knows that Jennifer is probably gone, and I would have to agree with her :(

Gee I would like to see the rest of that store video - just wondering if that guy was still beside her when she exited the store...

Yeah I read the timeline has now changed in that she was last seen alive at 8pm and not the previously thought 5pm.

For anyone that's interested this case was featured last night on Monica the Medium. Nothing new except apparently she was spotted the night she went missing at a tanning salon?

“We found out on her anniversary date that here she had been in the tanning salon down in the Wal-Mart complex,” said Zmuida.

Cahill-Shadle was previously believed to be last seen at the North Atherton Wal-Mart on May 15 about 5:15 p.m. The new information put her at the nearby tanning salon for an appointment that afternoon, but also had her coming back around 8 p.m. to look for a lost wallet.

“They helped her look for it and then she left,” said Zmuida. “The whole timeline has changed. She was still alive and around at 8 p.m., not at 5 p.m.”

So she lost her wallet? Maybe the person who found it called her to meet up to give it back and something bad happened during the meeting.

I wonder if the tanning appointment was before or after she was in Walmart? I still watch the video from Walmart and wonder about the guy walking out of the store beside her. I watch it one time and it's just a guy walking out of the store, and the next it's someone who is coming out between the aisle specifically to walk out beside her, matching his steps to hers. Imagination is not always a good thing LOL.

Guess I'm remembering the girl followed leaving Target and being abducted - Kelsey Smith. But if Jennifer was then seen at 8pm, he was probably just a guy walking out of the store.

Jennifer Cahill-Shadle disappeared in May of 2014, and police have come up with nothing but dead ends in over a year of searching for her whereabouts.

Ferguson Township Detective Jonathan Mayers, who is heading the investigation, said this past May that there is no evidence of a crime involved in the disappearance, making it difficult hard for police to obtain search warrants...

Cahill-Shadle's daughter Laura believes that her mother is alive. Missing posters can still be seen throughout State College, but it seems that police haven't made any progress is locating the missing woman.

On television, when no one else can find out who committed a crime, a significant crime like an abduction or a murder, they call in the experts, the people who deal with the big stuff every day.

They call in the FBI.

Johanna Zmuida wants to know why that hasn’t happened for her daughter.

(...)

“We are getting nowhere with the police and would so much like to have (this case) handed to the FBI,” Zmuida said.

So she lost her wallet? Maybe the person who found it called her to meet up to give it back and something bad happened during the meeting.

Respectfully Snipped

What an interesting scenario! Find or pickpocket a wallet, then call the owner to meet up and return it, stand away and watch to see if LE is with the potential victim, then if the coast is clear, meet up and abduct the victim.

To me, that is a pretty good catch. Hope LE thought of it.

It's so sad how this case doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Poor Jennifer I hope her family get answers and find her one day
