GUILTY TN - Sean Powell, 18, shot to death, Knoxville, 10 March 2007

D_K, she has been very busy, hasn't she? New relationship with a student, and now someone in California she may be going to see.

Why was she ever allowed to work in a school environment again? That makes no sense to me.
That makes no sense to me either SewingDeb, I can't even believe she would be aloud in another school enviorment sheesh. I just hope they are found before those 2 little boy's are harmed even more.

I hope so, too, calidreamin. May they all be found safe and soon.

Was she charged at all in the death of the 18 year old? She does have an attorney but I can't remember if she was charged along with her husband.

I tried to do some checking and I can't find anything saying that she is being charged in the death, just the husband. Can they still charge her for having sex with a student even if he is 18?

I doubt it since he was technically an adult.

Well this one certainly doesn't let any grass grow under her feet. It's pretty obvious that she isn't putting her children first and hasn't for quite a while.

I wonder if LE can get her computer and read her emails or retrieve any she might have deleted. Her family has a reason to believe that she left to meet up with someone that she met online. LE can trace that person that she met and find out where he is from, etc. They really should be concerned about the little boys. The good Lord only knows who she has hooked up with. Could even be someone who likes little boys :furious: and is just using her to get at her boys. I wonder if LE is even involved?

So is she getting money from family and friends? If so, do they KNOW that she planned to run off, probably with another YOUNG man that she doesn't know, bring her kids around him, ugh, I just hope this lady decided to go to a secluded mountain retreat for a few months :(

I saw this case highlighted on THS investigates 'Hot for Student' about teachers who have had sexual relationships with their students. It looks like it might be coming on again on Sept. 30 if anyone wants to watch. I remember hearing the call from the husband about the kid outside in his car and then when he came inside the house the husband called the cops and said there was this guy who knows his wife; one of her students that is stalking her and he is here trying to start a fight with him. Then a few minutes later we have her call to 911 about the shooting in her home and the husband took off on foot; the police were worried he was going to harm himself as well.

It was an interesting segment-good ole Mary-Kay Letourneau was featured as well.

If they haven't been taken by Child Protective Services and placed with the grandmother, there may not be anything they can do at this time. I think when they are found CPS needs to take them immediately.

I just watched the Nancy Grace episode of this tonight, and while the husband did shoot and kill the poor teenager, my heart ached for him. He was clearly in pain over the fact that his wife is probably off with some teen she met online and TOOK his two sons from their grandma.

They mentioned that she HAD obtained another teaching job in a private school where she had changed back to her maiden name and falsified records to gain her position illegally. So apparently, she was getting paid.

How horrible... I hope they're found soon so those kids can be safe. Imagine the crap they're seeing????????

Transcripts to Nancy Grace's HLN show 11/23

PAT LALAMA, GUEST HOST: Tonight: Alleged child molestation turns deadly. A young father of two pulls a long gun after his teacher wife lures a young boy student into a sex affair. The husband-turned-shooter claims it was all an accident, but does a 911 call to police prove otherwise, that he planned to murder his teenage love rival? Tonight, Eric McLean speaks out after his teacher wife goes MIA, taking off with their two children, this after she gets a new job teaching under her maiden name, then raises eyebrows for another questionable relationship with yet another boy student.
Where is Erin McLean and the couple`s two children?

OK here is what I just don't understand.. people go over to the Britney Spears thread and post about how they are sure that her behavior is due to the fact that she must have a case of undiagnosed Bipolar disorder. A bunch of times, a couple of people say they think Brit is acting the way she is cuz she "must be Bipolar" or she "sounds Bipolar". To me, Brit is so obviously NOT Bipolar.. I share not one symptom (the ones made public that others are basing their opinions on) with the girl..

Yet I come to this thread and read a story of a woman with CLASSIC symptoms of Bipolar disorder and not one person has even brought it up.

I hope they find this woman soon, take those babies from her and have her committed before she harms herself and/or her children- she sounds as if she is about to hit her "bottom" if she hasn't already.

I thought it sounded like something was wrong, bipolar or something, back when this story came out. I missed Nancy Grace tonite. First of all, is Nancy back on her show already and what is the update on this woman and her kids? Have they been found?

When an affair happens to get between two people; the husband being obviously in love with his wife; it's easier for Eric to blame Sean than his own wife. It's common in relationship when one is caught cheating on the other. It's as if the pain is too much for the one cheated on to grasp, so automatically the blame is projected onto the one the spouse/etc is having the affair with. When in reality, the spouse is guilty. If only Eric had enough self control to just call the police, not go and pick up that gun.. he could have divorced her, and no doubt would most likely have been able to get full custody of their two children, could have started his life anew. It's hindsight and in the heat of passion (i would say it was a killing out of his passion for his wife) he couldn't think clearly and was impulsive. You can see it in his eyes in the pic on the first page, first post's link. It seems as if he shot Sean in a blind fury. The minute he knew of the affair to begin with, he should have filed for divorce. I don't see how trust could be gained back after such an incident.
Erin is clearly unstable, i'm wondering if family out of state is covering for her and her kids. Otherwise, you would think the hunt for them would be stronger due to her mental state.

watched opening statements, pros is going on the murder being because the husband was jealous, defence is going on the wife and lover are the bad guys and he was driven to it, plus the actual shooting was an "accident" the defence attorney said,

afternoon witnesses were some of the neighbours who heard the fatal shot, and witnessed the aftermath, they all liked the defendant Eric and did not like his wife Erin, also a police officer who escorted Erin to the police station after the shooting, and his onboard video was played for the jury, much weeping and wailing from Erin about her lover Sean being shot, at this stage though all the cops knew of Sean was that he was a former student of hers, (he was 18) she had not told them he was her lover

they also played the 911 calls, one Eric the defendant made to try to get the cops to kick Sean (the victim) out of there home, and the call Erin made after the shooting

http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/sep/05/city-official-be-first-witness-mclean-trial/

afternoons witnesses testified about the crime scene, one witness from the ME office described what he saw at the scene, and how he took photos to help the Medical Examiner,

and the officers who arrested the defendant testified to his arrest, and the crime scene analyst testified to collecting the gun, which was at the place by the railroad tracks where the defendant was arrested

trial will be from 1pm tomorrow, starting with the tape of the defendant in the backseat of a police cruiser after his arrest
