Hailey's mom to 911: Shawn's threatening to kill me
KTAB News has obtained 911 calls made in February 2010 related to a domestic dispute during which, according to police affidavits, Shawn Adkins allegedly threatened to kill 13-year-old Hailey Dunn and her mother.
Adkins is the boyfriend of Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, and the only confirmed suspect in the girl’s disappearance. According to police, Adkins was the last person to see Hailey on December 27: the day she went missing.

Investigators mum on results of landfill search for Hailey Dunn
The search of the Abilene landfill last week may or may not have turned up evidence involved in the Hailey Dunn case, said Pete Kampfer, city manager in Colorado City and a spokesman for the task force investigating the teen’s disappearance.
“You can say they may have found evidence,” Kampfer said, adding that there has been no confirmation by task force officials about whether anything was found during the search of the Allied Waste Services landfill on Thursday and Friday.
About a dozen officers from the Abilene Police Department searched through piles of debris last week. Cadaver dogs, trained in locating human remains, were on the scene as well.

Local searchers say extra help finding Hailey is appreciated
Searchers tell KTXS that additional help from national organizations in the search to finding missing teenager Hailey Dunn is appreciated – especially since each day it gets harder to find time to look for Hailey.
Shawnna McClinton and her children drove from Big Springs to the community of Dunn Tuesday to tie orange balloons on the bridge designated as a prayer site for Hailey.
"I can't explain it; my heart says go find her," McClinton said. "So that's what we're trying to do."

Two organizations aim to unify community search efforts for Hailey
The Laura Recovery Center and the Klaas Kids Foundation are joining the search for missing teenager Hailey Dunn. They aim to educate members of the community on how to search more efficiently.
Both organizations have assisted in hundreds of cases. The Laura Recovery Center helped in the Elizabeth Smart search. They say they're not trying to take over the efforts; they just want to use their years of experience to help.
"We're coming in at the request of the family just to kind of assist the community search," said Brad Dennis, Director of Search Operations for Klaas Kids.

Hailey's tearful Father meets with organizers, searchers
The tearful father of missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn met with searchers Wednesday morning before they went out looking for the Colorado City teen.
Clint Dunn and the group dubbed "Hailey's Angels" met at a bridge in the town of Dunn that's been turned into a makeshift vigil for Hailey. The site features teddy bears, pictures of Hailey, and messages that have been left for and about the girl.
The group read poems and prayed together as Clint thanked the volunteers for the continued efforts to bring Hailey home safely.

911 calls won't help find Hailey, Mom says
The release of 9-1-1 calls made by Billie Dunn last February aren't doing anything to help find her missing daughter, Dunn said Tuesday night.
The calls were made shortly after Dunn had temporarily broken up with her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, now a suspect in 13-year-old Hailey Dunn's disappearance.
Dunn called police on Valentine's Day last year, asking if an officer could keep an eye on her home, fearing Adkins would try to steal something while she was at work.

About 40 volunteers registered to search for missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn. Two national missing children organizations set up a command center at the Colorado City Civic Center this morning.
The search efforts are being organized by the KlaasKids Foundation Search Center out of California and the Friendswood-based Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children.

Billie Dunn: We're looking for a living breathing little girl
The parents of missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn have not given hope. Far from it.
Hailey's mother, Billie Dunn, said Wednesday there's one primary message she wants out: "We're looking for a living, breathing little girl. We're not looking for a corpse."
She made this statement through a spokesperson, a family friend who answered the door at her house in Colorado City. Billie Dunn has not spoken directly with KTXS since KTXS first released the law enforcement affidavits last week.

Adkins Lawyer: Phone records could be incorrect
The lawyer representing the only named suspect in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn, Shawn Adkins, says that phone records placing Adkins in the vicinity of the Dunn residence early on Dec. 27, when he told authorities he was somewhere else, could be incorrect.
Fort Worth-based attorney Sidney Lyle told KTXS News on Wednesday that, in his own experience, phone records can show use in one area when the phone user was in a different location.

Hailey's older brother taken into temporary state family protective custody
KTXS learned Wednesday that Hailey Dunn's older brother, David, has been taken into temporary custody of Child Protective Services.
Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer said it is common practice to remove a child when a situation like this occurs, just to protect David.
Meanwhile, also on Wednesday, for the first time, law enforcement worked with volunteer searchers and two national foundations to give them direction.
KlaasKids and the Laura Recovery Center Foundation trained volunteers Wednesday morning how to go about searching for Hailey.
Hailey's father, Clint Dunn, joined the group of about 55 searchers, to offer up his support.

Investigation narrows in case of missing teen
A man authorities believe was the last person to see a missing Texas cheerleader is the focus of the investigation and his attorney said he has offered all the information he knows.
Shawn Adkins, the live-in boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, is the only named person of interest in the girl's December disappearance, authorities said Wednesday.
Adkins' attorney, Sidney Lyle of Odessa, told CNN affiliate KTAB in Abilene he has advised his client not to speak further with the media. And he told affiliate KTXS that Adkins has cooperated with law enforcement.
Lyle did not respond to CNN's attempts to talk to him.

Missing teens brother staying with relative
The brother of missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn is staying with a relative, family members said Wednesday.
Pete Kampfer, city manager of Colorado City, confirmed the report and said the Texas Department of Protective and Family Services was involved in the placement of 16-year-old David Dunn in another home.
Officials at Child Protective Services, however, could not confirm involvement in the case, said CPS public information officer Marleigh Meisner.

The parents of Hailey Dunn, who disappeared from Colorado City more than three weeks ago, said they were overwhelmed Wednesday by the outpouring of support from volunteers who showed up to search for their daughter.
By 3 p.m., almost 50 volunteers had signed on to help with the search, organized by two national organizations — the KlaasKids Foundation and the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children.

Wednesday night on HLN's "Nancy Grace," one of the guests labeled Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie, as being in denial about who Shawn Adkins, her boyfriend and only named suspect, might be.

Spokesman: Hailey's body needed for successful prosecution
Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer made one thing clear about the investigation into the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn: whether she's the victim of a crime or simply ran away, law enforcement's focus is to find Hailey Dunn.

Colorado City landfill targe today as part of search for missing teen\\
Law enforcement will be using cadaver dogs this afternoon to search the landfill in Colorado City for missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.
The number of volunteers dwindled to about 20 today, due to the cold weather, organizers said.
Two volunteer search teams gathered for the second time this morning. They will be searching areas along Hwy 208 toward the community of Dunn, which is north of Colorado City.
“We will be looking in areas all along there,” said Brad Dennis of the KlaasKids Foundation, which is organizing the volunteer search for the 13-year-old.

Large group of volunteers respond; few developments reported
After two national agencies arrived to help find missing thirteen-year-old Hailey Dunn, a good number of volunteers responded to the call.
About 40 people showed up to the Colorado City Civic Center on Wednesday morning to help the KlaasKids Foundation and the Laura Recovery Center with law enforcement search efforts.
The foundations taught volunteers tips on what to do and not to do, as well as different search tactics. The search was conducted within the city limits of Colorado City, where search parties were formed and identified with neon orange vests.

Cadaver dogs search Colorado City lanfill today
Authorities confirmed to KTXS News that cadaver dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice have arrived and will be searching the Colorado City landfill site Thursday afternoon for missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
A worker at the landfill told KTXS that the FBI had notified landfill officials about the search. The dogs and their handlers came seven hours Thursday from Huntsville to reach Colorado City for the search.
Meanwhile, a frigid day Thursday decreased the number of volunteers searching for missing Colorado City 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

Authorities now searching Snyder landfill for missing teen
A waste facility in Snyder was the second landfill law enforcement searched to find evidence into the disappearance of Hailey Dunn who has been missing for over three weeks.
Cadaver dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice were used at the Colorado City landfill and are currently searching at the Snyder Solid Waste Facility.
“We don’t know if there have been any hits,” said Pete Kampfer, city manager and spokesman for the task force investigating the disappearance of 13-year-old teen.

- In the face of grim evidence and fading hope, desperate volunteers continue searching for a missing West Texas girl.
Kevin Bowman and his brother on Thursday joined about 20 others to look for Hailey Darlene Dunn, a middle school cheerleader who was reported missing Dec. 28 from Colorado City, about 240 miles west of Dallas.
Kevin Bowman wiped tears away as he spoke about the teenager, saying there is "less and less hope" each day that Hailey is alive.

Marc Klaas stayed close to Billie Jean Dunn on Thursday while helping to organize the search for her daughter Hailey Dunn, who has been missing for more than three weeks.
Klaas, the president and founder of the KlaasKids Foundation, is helping Billie Jean Dunn and her estranged husband, Clint Dunn, cope as they search for their daughter, who was reported missing Dec. 28. She reportedly last was seen the day before.

No evidence found in Thursday's landfill search
Thursday's search of the Colorado City landfills turned up no evidence in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, the Mitchell County Sheriff told bigcountryhomepage.com today.
The search included cadaver dogs. Searchers arrived at around 1:30 p.m. and left before 3 p.m. They combed over things that may have been missed the during their initial search of the landfills.

Billie Dunn couldn't be happier about having her missing daughter's face on TV sets across the country. While Dunn appreciates all the attention Hailey is receiving, she's not happy with everything that is being said.

Vigils, searches continue but no progress announced about missing teen
The outpouring of support for Hailey Dunn and her family continued Friday as about 115 people attended a vigil at First Baptist Church to pray for the safe return of 13-year-old Hailey, who has been missing for more than three weeks.
Donations of food and beverages have been pouring in for volunteers. The local Dairy Queen has been providing breakfast and coffee for the volunteers throughout the week, while Pizza Hut has provided lunch.
Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham brought over several cases of Girl Scout cookies Thursday. Other individuals are offering donations through www.websleuths.com.
"We have food through the weekend," Dennis said. "We've had calls from Atlanta, (Georgia), Illinois and Colorado asking, 'What can we send you?'"

Missing teen's father putting faith in God that his daughter will be found
Friday night hundreds of people came to the First Baptist Church in Colorado City for a prayer vigil for Hailey Dunn. "Everybody is going to get together and pray for Hailey at the same time and give it to the Lord," said her father Clint Dunn.
After nearly 4 weeks, Clint said he's putting his faith in God that his daughter will be found. "Definitely I've put my trust in God. I guess you call upon God in your most desperate moments."

To keep up hope for her safe return, Colorado City held a vigil for Hailey Dunn Friday night at the First Baptist Church gym.
People were handing out more than 600 buttons at the door, with a picture of Hailey and the message: "Have you seen me? Call 911".

Volunteers begin aerial search for Dunn
Volunteers took to the sky on Saturday for the first time in the search for Hailey Dunn.
Searcher Kyle Guthrie pointed out remote areas he didn't know existed from the passenger seat of a small plane.
"On the ground, you're looking at the same terrain over and over again. When you're in the air, you're looking at every single square mile there is," he said.
In just two hours, the plane covered about 250 miles of terrain in Snyder, Dunn, Ira, Colorado City, and several bodies of water.

A daily barrage of questions from the media was not in Pete Kampfer's job description, when he hired on as city manager in Colorado City over a year ago.

Hailey suspect traveling between Dunn and Big Spring
Law enforcement sources tell bigcountryhomepage.com that the only named suspect in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn, Shawn Adkins, has been traveling between a home in Dunn, Texas and his mother's house in Big Spring over the last few days.
Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer said it's his understanding Adkins has left the home at times. He noted Adkins remains under 24-7 surveillance and officers are aware of his whereabouts.
Since reportedly failing a polygraph exam on Wednesday, January 5, Adkins had been staying at a home in Dunn with relatives. For a number of days, Adkins rarely left. Volunteer searchers told bigcountryhomepage.com they often saw Adkins watching them while they combed through brush and wooded areas.

Hailey Dunn update: Missing teen billboards across state of Texas
The search continues for missing Colorado City, Texas teen Hailey Dunn, as billboards bearing her face remind drivers in the state about her case.
Hailey, 13, was last seen on December 27. According to police, Shawn Adkins -- her mother’s boyfriend -- claims the girl told him she was walking a short distance to her father’s home and then over to a friend’s to spend the night. She never arrived at either location. Her mother, Billie Dunn, reported her missing on December 28.
Adkins has been named a suspect in the case by police and Billie asked him to move out of the home on January 5.

Efforts continue despite departures of search teams
The departure of two major search organizations from Colorado City does not signal an end to efforts to find missing Colorado City girl Hailey Dunn, said Pete Kampfer, city manager and media liaison.
The Texas-based Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children helped supervise roughly 30 volunteer searchers Sunday morning and were scheduled to depart Sunday afternoon, Kampfer said.
Brad Dennis, director of search operations for the KlaasKids National Search Center for Missing Children, left Saturday because of prior engagements in Florida.
The KlaasKids organization has been training volunteers and coordinating search efforts in Colorado City since Tuesday.

Cecilia Garcia says she was shocked when Shawn Adkins, the live-in boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, claimed Hailey was going to a slumber party at her family home on the night she disappeared.

Raw Interview: Out of state tips in Dunn investigation
The Mitchell County district attorney is working to build a case in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn to hand over to a grand jury, Michell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said. But right now, there isn't enough evidence to arrest the only named suspect, Shawn Adkins.
"Once that case is built and we have enough info to go on, then the arrest will be made and someone will be taken to trial in that case," he told KRBC reporter Jessica Reyes on Monday.
As leads continue to come in, investigators are trying to get all persons of interest cleared and narrow the case down to one person, he said.

Billie Dunn no longer 'stuck in a rut'
For weeks ago, Billie Dunn never thought her life would change as much as is has – her 13-year-old daughter, Hailey, hasn't been seen since the Monday after Christmas.
"I'd just been in a rut sitting around here crying," she said. "I had no motivation to get out of the house."
But 28 days later, this distraught single mother has found inner strength.
"I know if I break down I won't stop. Once it starts it just keeps coming, so I know that I have to keep it together."

New leads checked in missing teens case
Investigators are continuing their search for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn in parts of Mitchell and Scurry counties — including areas previously explored.
"I know that they're corroborating as much as they can," said Pete Kampfer, Colorado City's city manager and media liaison for the law enforcement agencies investigating the girl's disappearance, on Tuesday. "I guess as a basis of a checklist, you want to make sure you've thoroughly gone over everything."

Hailey's mom reacts to newly released video
New surveillance video released by Colorado ISD shows 13-year old Hailey Dunn about a week before she disappeared.
"It was very hard to look at," said Billie Dunn, Hailey's mother, "just seeing the way she walks, and recognizing it."
Billie spent Monday combing through surveillance video with Colorado ISD officials. The video was shot just before students at Colorado Middle School were released for winter break.
"I didn't think that it was possible," she recollects, "but I am definitely missing her more now."

Hailey Dunn: Criminal Profile
Hailey Dunn was reported missing on December 28, 2010 from Colorado City, Texas. The last person to see Hailey is Shawn Adkins. He is the former live-in boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie Dunn. He has been named a suspect, in the case, but no arrests have been made. Numerous searches have been made in and around Colorado City, but these searches have not led to her recovery.

Group giving emotional, fiancial support to Dunn family
Tomorrow marks one month since Hailey Dunn was last seen, and her mother, Billie, is now getting some additional emotional and financial support from someone who has been in her shoes.
Diena Thompson form the Somer Thompson Foundation is in Colorado City today. Diena started the foundation after her 7-year-old daughter was abducted and murdered. She said she is providing financial assistance to the Dunn family and offering emotional support.

Grass roots volunteers searching for missing teen persist
Operations went smoothly for Hailey's Search Center — a grass roots group of volunteers searching for Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn — despite the absence of two national missing children organizations.
Members from KlaasKids Foundation and Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children previously helped coordinate volunteer search efforts and have since left Colorado City.
"To tell you the truth, I was little bit scared at first, but I'm not (now)," said Gaye Hebert, one of several volunteers trained to organize the search. "I think they taught us well, and we really want to do it and that makes all the difference."

Hailey's mom clings to hope
Four weeks ago few people outside of classmates and close friends had any idea who Hailey Dunn was.
Today, her face is known coast to coast and an entire community has pulled together to make her their own.
Hailey is a typical 13 year old according to her mother, “with hormones raging and little attitudes now and then, but no different from other friends’ 13-year-olds.”
“She’s really a good kid. She has a big heart,” Billie Dunn said.
Her room reflects her growing from little girl into young lady: trophies from softball, decorative pillows on her bed, a drawer of snacks – Hostess cupcakes and hot Cheetos, and pin up pictures of her favorite martial artist B. J. Penn.

Attention on Hailey Dunn case slowing, one month later
Thursday marks one full month since 13-year-old Hailey Dunn vanished from the small town of Colorado City. Over the last 30 days, Hailey has captured the attention of the area and nation. However, the buzz surrounding the case is starting to slow.
Last week, authorities began talking about regional and national law enforcement agencies leaving the area and the investigation being handled primarily by the Colorado City Police Department and Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.

Still no sign of missing Colorado City teen one month after disappearance
Thursday marked exactly one month since Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn disappeared. As the weeks drag on, Hailey's mom has been consumed with trying to bring her daughter back home. It's not only been a drain emotionally, but financially. A missing children's organization has stepped in to help her pay the bills while she goes through this tough time.
Fliers have been passed out, search teams have come and gone and many vigils have been held to pray for Hailey Dunn's safe return, and one month later still no word on where she could be.

Hailey Dunn now gone one month, classmates show support
Hailey's classmates are doing everything they can to make sure their friend is not forgotten because of advice from the founder of Klaaskids.
Hailey's principal, Mark Merrell, asked the founder of Klaaskids, Marc Klaas, his advice for handling this tough situation. Klaas told Merrel not to sweep it under the rug.
So Hailey's classmates have been filling a suggestion box in the school's cafeteria with their own ideas for how to find Hailey. They're also writing special prayers on the wall for everyone to see.

Search for Hailey Dunn continues despite no new info
A group of about 15 law enforcement officials and volunteers once again scoured the open fields of Scurry County to search for missing teen Hailey Dunn.
Members of the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office, Scurry County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers, Colorado City Police Department and volunteers rode horses and four-wheelers as they searched private land in northern Scurry County near State Highway 208.

'Have Hope': Hailey Dunn's family, friends stay optimistic
A sign outside Colorado Middle School reads "Have Hope" — two words that are uniting a school and a town and giving strength to a mother and father who desperately want to see her their daughter come home safe.
Friday marked a month to the day that 13-year-old Hailey Dunn was reported missing, and the girl's mother said she is finding strength in faith.
"I have to speak for her, and I have to just never give up on her," Billie Jean Dunn said. "I have to believe that she's out there or else I'm not gonna be able to stay strong."
