Deceased/Not Found UK - Nicola Payne, 18, Coventry, 14 Dec 1991

The third person was one of the suspects wife, if you look on her Facebook profile her maiden name is the same as the other suspect so it looks like the 2 being charged are related to each other.

I would think they were just looking out for any woman to attack if that was them, they couldn't have known to expect Nicola. Unless they did indeed know her.

Here's a link to the forensic breakthrough http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/forensic-breakthrough-hunt-coventry-mum-6396478

I really get the feeling the police have a very strong case and a lot is going to come out when it goes to trial.

I also wonder if the two suspects have previous convictions for crimes against women it would certainly appear that in 1991 they intended to harm women.

It wouldn't surprise me, I think if a person (or persons in this case) has the capacity to do something so bad to another human being I find it hard to believe they've gone through their whole lives (over 50 years for these 2) without ever being involved in anything else similar. I think the police have got their men this time, I just wish they'd come clean and let the girls family lay her to rest but I can't see them doing it sadly.

I agree although i do feel the police at some point will find Nicola body. What worries me is if these men did abduct and murder Nicola i cant help but feel they may have done a similar thing before or since.

Couldn't agree more, it seems inconceivable that whoever did this just attacked Nicola and never offended again. A bit of google searching tells you a bit about the family, let's just say they aren't of great character and one of them skipped bail last year although I couldn't find anything connecting them to other crimes of this nature. Yell.com also shows that one of them is a self employed gardener, but trying to find all the sites he could have been working at over 23 years ago will be difficult for the police to trace. His job would give him plenty of opportunity to get rid of a body under someone else's garden. I wouldn't be surprised if this is where the key to this case lies. I wonder if the suspects were involved in landscaping the fishing area at Coombe Abbey as it has often been at the centre of the search for Nicola.

Thats a very interesting point his job would have given him access and opportunity to commit similar crimes. Its worrying that if indeed they were there that day to randomly attack a women then they must of been planning it for a while. The fact that witnesses say they had the boot of the car open is quite chilling. Of course there is another theory maybe Nicola saw them doing something illegal and they silenced her.

Police reviewing data from latest search near Coombe Abbey

Police looking for missing Coventry mum Nicola Payne will review data from recent searches near Coombe Abbey before deciding whether or not to return.

Little has been revealed about what, if anything, was found during those searches.

It’s understood the specialists were investigating several anomalies found when home office scientists searched the lake with sonar equipment earlier in the year.

Officers first searched land close to the lake more than a year ago.

On that occasion land between the fishing lake and the A46 was searched.

After the three day search had concluded police said they had found “items of interest” which would be checked over.

Whatever they found must have tied the two suspects to nicola and must of been strong enough evidence to charge them with murder.

I think so, they must have something on them to charge them. Hopefully all the other bits and pieces of evidence they have collected over the years will combine to put them away. I hope that if they get to a point where they have to realise the games up and they're going down for this, they might give up what they did with Nicola's body.

I believe these are the same two men who were questioned in 1991 but the police couldnt find any evidence on them. I seem to remember there were alot of people who saw these two men hanging around that day i wonder whever they may have been working in the area.

Seems like violence runs in the family. I suspect the two suspects must of been on the police rader for along time.

A well known family of wrong 'uns it would seem! I'm sure the police will have had plenty of dealings with them over the years. I've had a look back to see if I can find any archives from the local press to see who was originally arrested all those years ago to see if it was the same 2 men but I can't find anything. Maybe that info has been censored now with a trial being imminent, or maybe because it was pre-Internet era that kind of info just isn't around online.

I know that at the time people saw the car with two men standing buy it around the time Nicola vanished. I remember seeing a programme about the case where those two men were questioned and the car searched but the police were unable to find any evidence linking them to Nicola. After that it seemed until 2013 police focused on other leads. They seemed to be interested in a 37 year old man who in 2007 they arrested for suspicion of murder and then searched his garden a year later but found nothing i suspect thats who Nicola perents believed was responsible.

I really hope they find Nicola remains and give her family peace and closure.
me too, although from what I've managed to find out about the suspects they seem to be from a notorious criminal family and I don't think they will ever admit their guilt. As we've discussed before though the police must have some very strong evidence to have charged them and it was in the news as a forensic breakthrough so I think they are getting very warm now in the search for Nicola's remains.

I think the trial is going to give the family some of the answers theyve been looking for for 23 years. Im curious as to why the two suspects were in the area that day. Had planned to abduct a women that day in advance, certainly it would seem that her remains are well hidden.or did she stumble upon them doing something illegal and they silenced her.
