I didn't see this (bolded) part before:

Sarah McCorskey said her brother left to go on a trip Sept. 6. and she heard that he got into an argument with his girlfriend at the music festival. Then, he left the family a cryptic phone message Thursday, saying "I love you guys." She said that was uncharacteristic of her brother because they were not a "'Leave It To Beaver' kind of family."

[notice the line I bolded at the bottom]:

Early yesterday morning, she said, authorities in Alameda County, Calif., raided the home she shares with the suspect and their father, seizing their computers and other items, including a Halloween costume of Joey Jordison, drummer for the heavy-metal band Slipknot. Alameda officials confirmed they entered the house about 1:30 a.m. PDT while no one was home, and that they stayed until about 6 a.m.

"My house is trashed," Sarah McCroskey said. "It's upside down."

She said her grandmother's ashes are missing.

The parents had taken their daughter and one of her friends, an 18-year-old girl from West Virginia, to a concert in Michigan on Sept. 12, and the girls hung out with McCroskey before and after the show, according to a friend Andres Shirm, who also attended.

Shirm, who owns a small, independent horrorcore music label Serial Killin Records in New Mexico
, said the girls and McCroskey were brought together by the music.

"You look at the music we do and it's kind of harsh and somewhat brutal at times, but there's a different side of life that people aren't normally accustomed to, and being an artist, I think it's important to see both sides of life," he said.

Anytime I see Juggalo, it is a red flag for me.

looks like there's been a bit of a feud going on between some SKR fans & some juggalos fans; it's all a bit confusing for me but apparently there are clear distinctions (Sam was/is SKR, not juggalo) - mocking one another about facepainting & satanism - it'd be amusing if it wasn't so ridiculous

um, there's other stuff at that page that is not for the faint of heart - you've been cautioned

I think they spelled his name wrong - I think it's Andreas?

Dr. Kelley's contract had not been renewed with Longwood. Though their side of the story is that she was "taking the semester off for research and was not expected to return to teaching", if you read the comment Em left on Sam's Myspace it says her mom was fired. They did this to save the family extra grief. Why tarnish her name...but to be clear Dr. Kelley was doing nothing Longwood related this semester.

An interesting article with input from one of Emma's friends:

http://www.wset.com/news/stories/0909/661349.html

Maceachran tells us Emma did not have a good relationship with her parents. "She talked to mama as professor. She never talked to mama as 'mom,” Maceachran said.

He says her mom would rarely let her go anywhere and that her parents were not getting along. "They were fighting a lot."

Somewhere this morning I read a quote from an LE officer involved about Debra Kelley's specific interests in sociology. He said that they'd spent many hours discussing her favorite topics, homicide and violence.

This was a local article that doesn't seem to be listed on this thread, but now I can't find it. That was basically the only novel info in it, though.

Does anyone from the university know if she specialized in something like this?

Just how does a pastor and a professor come to the conclusion that taking their 16 yo daughter to a festival called,"Strictly for the Wicked Festival" is a good idea? Not to mention the lack of supervision of their daughter online!

My info on this is third-hand - from a person who knows someone who knew the family well, but what we've been told is that Debra Kelley was not happy with her husband's decision to become a minister, and that the marriage was troubled from that point on. I don't find that surprising at all, since when she entered the marriage there was no expectation of being a "preacher's wife" (shudder). Some stories are reporting they were separated for one year, I have heard two years from my sources.

Interesting statement from the tow truck operator. How long does a hickey stay so visible. I would think only 2 or 3 days.....:

Napier said he noticed that the front of the man's neck was covered with what appeared to be hickies, and when he asked the man about them, McCroskey told him his girlfriend had left them.

Could be a LOT longer than 3 days, especially those kids who are into a goth-type scene. Think vampires.

I think you're right about those favorite topics. Only, throw in a little gender studies with it. Everybody does that these days, including me ;)

Here's her Longwood webpage link:

http://www.longwood.edu/staff/kelleyds/lwmat/index.htm

You can see what courses she's taught in recent years. Also, I think it was LongwoodGrad who mentioned that kelley was fired. If this is true, there must have been grievous reasons, because she had TENURE, she was an Associate professor. Once someone has tenure it is very difficult to get fired (which is why tenure is so very desirable, it is considered a "job for life"). So, yes, especially humiliating, and schools do indeed sugar-coat it by saying, "on leave" for health, personal, educational reasons. Fired from a tenured job makes it very difficult to find work again, not impossible, but she was probably very depressed about it.

It was posted on page 1 of this thread.

<snip>

"When it's friends, and loved ones ," said Farmville resident Michael Phelan. "I don't have the words. It's a sad day."
Phelan used to teach with the criminal justice professor.
He says he spent hours inside their home discussing her two favorite academic topics-- homicide and violence.
Neighbors and friends keep vigil around the home at 505 First Avenue, still in disbelief such horrific violence could happen here.
"Farmville, this is small town USA," he said. "Nothing happens here."

Sam had 3 Myspace pages. Emma wrote exclusively to him on one of his pages and Melanine wrote to him on another. I have given the cached link and screen grabs to the page Emma wrote on earlier.

Here is the page where Melanie wrote:

Can someone make a series of screen grabs for it so that it does not get lost? Otherwise, I hope I can do it tomorrow.

I think I got all of them saved in three screen grabs.
