A Colorado father has been officially charged with first-degree murder in the killing od his 7-year-old son. The body of the young boy was found days before Christmas, enclosed in a dog carrier that had been encased with concrete and left in a storage unit.

Leland Pankey appeared in court yesterday to have his charges formally read to him. Fox31 Denver reports that a preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 11. A news release by District Attorney Beth McCann stated that in addition to murder in the first degree, 39-year-old Pankey faces two additional counts of child abuse resulting in death and tampering with a deceased body.

*Elisha A. McWilliams-Pankey (43) “mom” arrested (held 1/2/19) & charged (1/3/19) with child abuse resulting in death & charged (1/7/19 with 2nd degree felony & abuse of a corpse. $250K bond.
Pankey was charged (12/28/18) with felony heroin possession & drug paraphernalia in Aurora two days before her son was found dead, and was released from the Arapahoe County Jail on Christmas Eve (12/24/18) on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. She is currently being held in a Denver city jail without a bond. Turned herself in on 1/2/19. Her other child is in Arapahoe County Protective Services.
1/3/19: Detention hearing for child. Next Preliminary hearing on drug charges on 1/11/19. Adjudicatory hearing (re child) on 1/29.
1/7/19 Update: charged with child abuse resulting in death, a second-degree felony, and abuse of a corpse. Next hearing 1/9.
1/11/19 Update: Next Preliminary hearing for murder charges on 4/2. 4/2/19: Next Preliminary/Deposition hearing continued to 6/4. 6/4/19: Arraignment on 8/1.

https://www.websleuths.com/forums/posts/15291534/save-inline I just happened across this thread yesterday. what a heartbreaking situation for the Children involved. Caden's pain and suffering has ended but there is another child who saw all of this going on!
As I was reading about Caden I couldn't help but be reminded of Evan brewer. He was also abused and found encased in concrete. The big difference is that Evan had family members that became concerned for his wellbeing. There seems to be no one that was even in contact with this family. Poor Canden and his sibling are still being ignored by the general public.

A mother pleaded guilty Thursday to child abuse resulting in the death of her 7-year-old son whose body was found in a Denver storage unit, in a deal requiring her cooperation with prosecutors who have charged the boy’s father with murder.

The plea agreement approved by a judge recommends that Elisha Pankey spend between 16 and 32 years in prison. Prosecutors said she will not be sentenced until after the trial of her husband, Leland Pankey.

Elisha Pankey, 43, did not speak during the brief court appearance aside from answering a judge’s questions about her understanding of the agreement.

Previously released court documents revealed she began cooperating with investigators two months after she was charged.
