But no statement included a conversation the 75-year-old now says he had with the foster grandmother shortly after a neighbour alerted him William was missing.

Mr Savage says the 30-second chat outside the woman's home involved her telling him William's foster mother had gone in to make or have a cup of coffee and then noticed the boy wasn't there.

"I'm pretty sure that's what she said," Mr Savage told the inquest.

"That must have been something that I remembered. It might not be right."
Pressed on how strong his recollection was, he said: "I still think that happened but I can't guarantee it. I'm not going to guarantee something I'm not sure about it."
After scouring the bush for up to 45 minutes on a path that took him to his backyard, Mr Savage did not inform anyone his search had found nothing, the inquest was told.

"I walked out the front just to see what was happening and then I went back inside," he said.

"I see the police (were) already there. I thought, 'that's the police, they don't need me'."

He said he made himself some food and tea because he thought whether he spent the day searching or making the long drive to see his brother in Casino he "should do it on a full stomach".
Neighbour's conversation with grandma after William Tyrrell's disappearance
its an interesting point he makes that the police don't need him yet he stays in kendall anyway and doesn't then make the trip to casino to his brother whom did need him?

I am not so sure that PS is acting like a dithering old man. He is reminding me of my mother in law so much in how one minute he is pretty sharp and then the next minute he cannot remember things. Dementia in the early stages is like that. I was once having a conversation with my MIL and out of the blue she asked me where her father was. He had died 50 years ago.
I am thinking the same thing. My mother is much like this. We can have a very productive conversation, where she is sharp as a tack. She is talkimng about current events and discussing errands she needs to do. And I am feeling more confident about her memory, etc.

And then moments later she will suggest we drop a casserole off at my brother's place---and he died of cancer 4 years ago. :(

Has there been a medical report submitted saying that Savage has early stage dementia? If there was, I would have thought that his barrister might have mentioned that for MSM to report on. Because his client sure is looking very unhelpful at the moment.
I don't think one has to have early stage dementia to begin having a faulty memory in one's 70's. It is somewhat normal to have a sketchy memory at this age. JMO

Mr Pollard told the court he heard about “the missing boy” on the night of September 12 2014. The next day, he claimed to have seen a white van leaving a bush track near Bonny Hills. @10NewsFirst @10Daily

Finally we hear what kind of vehicle spurred that search. Spedding's van? Donohoe's van? Mr Pollard may think that it seemed quite unusual to drive a van on one of those bush tracks ... not being a 4WD and all.

Could be part of the evidence that led to the intensive search of Spedding's properties. Along with the t-shirt stuffed in a pipe. And the washing machine repair hovering around 12th Sept.

Edit to add:
Dean pollard retracts seeing bs van in bush that day, even though witnesses testified seeing bs at school assembly!

Retracts? Is that what happened in all the silence after Lia's tweet about Dean Pollard taking the stand?

Just saw the 7 news report. It basically said that Dean Pollard has said he isn’t 100% sure that it was BS’ van he saw in Bonny Hills, despite his statement in 2014 saying he was 100% sure.

ETA: just saw you already posted bearbear, sorry.

Oh, so not a retraction then. Just a wavering after 5 years. Seems like his 2014 statement might have been more accurate ... but he has had time to put doubt in his mind, for whatever (Peter O'Brien? ole Col?) reason.

Sorry i Probably used the wrong word, was typing quickly while I listened, he's now unsure if it was bs van he saw

Thanks I wont waste any more time on it then, thought she would have had a more interesting episode after this week at the inquest.

It is over 40 mins long! I don't think I could listen to over 40 mins of that kind of stuff either.

Right from the start when she says she knew nothing about this case but woke up one day and had a screaming sense that not enough was being done, didn't know what she would do about it, just knew that she 'hat' to ..... so she got herself involved and got the bio parents named in the media.

“A phone call was made from the Sharpe’s house to Jones on the afternoon of the day William vanished, but Mrs Sharpe told the inquest the call was about the return of a hook and chain device that had been loaned to him.”
William Tyrrell neighbour breaks down at inquest

What is a hook and chain device? Such a coincidence that the call took place on the afternoon of William’s disappearance..

The DT and The Advertiser have just both put up a paywalled (same) article ....

It speaks of Dean Pollard telling police in January 2015 that he saw Spedding's work van driving suspiciously out of bushland one day after William went missing.
He said in his statement that it was definitely Spedding's van and the driver had stopped abruptly and ducked his head - so that he couldn't be seen.

Today Dean Pollard said he can't be sure (now) if it was Spedding's van or a similar van. He didn't see writing on the front of the van, so Harriet Grahame concluded it couldn't have been Spedding's van.

Peter O'Brien had a lot to say outside the courthouse ... waste of resources, my client was vindicated, he really couldn't have done what was said .... blah, blah, blah.

It could be this? It’s for lifting heavy objects like a motor or a log.

A Chain Block (also known as a hand chain hoist) is a mechanism used to lift and lower heavy loads using a chain. Chain blocks contain two wheels which the chain is wound around. When the chain is pulled, it winds around the wheels and begins to lift the item that is attached to the rope or chain via a hook.

How in the hell can the cops be sued when a witness said he saw Spedding’s van 100% come out of that bush track!

But now he’s not sure? Crikey what hope have our cops got.
Devil if you do and devil if you don’t. Give ‘em a break.
