Frank Abbott, 79, a man twice cleared of murder, and convicted twelve times of sexual molestation of children, accused also of raping dogs and stealing, will not be able to give evidence before the court closes due to COVID-19 virus fears.

NSW deputy state coroner Harriet Grahame expressed deep regret, but assured the public: “There’s nothing about this matter that I consider to be cold case.”

The investigation will continue, she said, and in fact they have new hope of discovering what happened to William, who has been missing since September 2014.

Ms Porter is asked about the conversation with nurse Renee Jenner in Ray’s room. She told the court they told Ray not to talk about “the little boy” because it upset him and that “Ray was only a few days away from death and very confused and muddled and very ill”.

This is so sad. Maybe we will get the evil that did this to William but with talk of boats I fear William may never be found.

Ms Porter told the court she believed Ray was telling the truth about what he knew because “he would tell the truth to Tom...if he had something to hide he wouldn’t have hid it from his brother”. She said he knew he didn’t have long to live.

The court heard Ms Porter told police “I got the impression Frank was not a very nice person. Ray told me one of his neighbours in Wauchope had told him to stay away from Frank”.

Maybe neighbour was” Micky Blue Eyes” wonder what he thinks of his FIL

She and her two children had spent time looking for William when he vanished.

"I felt sick. I got an automatic sick feeling in my stomach and I could’ve just vomited on the spot."

Mr Porter died of kidney failure last year.

Ms Porter has been excused. The lawyer representing William’s birth father has applied to re-call Geoff Owen as a witness at a later date, which has been approved by the coroner. Owen knew Abbott and repaired decking William’s foster grandmother’s house in late 2014.

A quick google tells me kidney failure can cause delusions.

The inquest has been adjourned until June 1 for a directions hearing to determine when the evidence will proceed. The Coroner told the court “I’m so sorry the world has done this. I wanted to finish the evidence this week... there’s still work to be done”.

Why couldn’t they just remove the general public and have only the essential individuals there.

When I listened to ScoMo on TV this morning, I'm sure he said Court was not included in the new ban on >100 gatherings, so I don't know why they would close the inquest at such a critical point.

The other thing was that in this morning's evidence, apparently Ray Porter said that FA borrowed his car. Then he also said FA couldn't drive??

I'm not sure a coroner's inquest is in the same category as court proceedings in general.
People waiting in jail for their day in court, arraignments etc would be classed as top priority imo.

All the technology in the world too, video conference etc, surely wouldn’t be too hard to set up, maybe not straight away but before June 1, poor families.
