‘Cannot survive:’ Las Vegas mayor asks governor to reduce business shutdown

Of course. Because casinos are essential! Public health crisis is irrelevant.

Mayor Goodman had her chance to make a responsible decision, to close businesses until April 1st, at least. When she didn't provide the leadership, the governor stepped up.

Mayor Goodman has a demonstrated lack of public responsibility to her constituents in Las Vegas.
I think some politicians fear losing constituents, so they allow bars & restaurants to remain business as usual. Sadly, said politician might still LOSE constituents.

Why 30 days instead of two weeks, then re-access?

The governors are in a daily call with our leaders daily. They know more about our future than sharing.

I noticed a drastic change in Virginia Governor, yesterday. He's now making decisions, shutting stuff down like his pants are in fire.

He let us know today, presser everyday 11 am.

Your college students might likely be packing up their cars to drive back home. This news video shows how well the students are coping with only 24 hrs. to vacate. They're doing okay, but I think like us they have that look "is this real?!!".

Students at SDSU, USD scramble to move out with 24-hour notice due to coronavirus

"Thousands of local college students scrambled Tuesday to pack up their belongings and make travel arrangements after San Diego State University and the University of San Diego informed students they had roughly 24 hours to vacate their dorms."

NYC

<snip, BBM> Cops out hunting for businesses flouting the public assembly ban found that two-thirds of the restaurants they surveyed are shuttered altogether, police said Wednesday as they announced they’d only found two bad apples in all of Gotham.

In total, the NYPD visited 6,343 locations and discovered that 4,015 of them had completely closed up shop, according to NYPD spokeswoman Sgt. Jessica McRorie.

Out of the 2,328 that remained open, only two had smuggled in customers.

Myrtle Beach (Horry Co) is running massive ads in my area. These may have been contracted prior to the virus but they really should stop them.

If I hear , come on down to Myrtle Beach time, one more time today....just saying....

What are your thoughts on this:

My gym instructor is offering outdoor workouts at a local park. Everyone would bring their own mat and weights and would be stationed 6 ft apart.

I really miss this class so I'm weighing the pros and cons.

(ha..."weighing" the pros and cons...no pun intended :D)
I think we should all quarantine unless absolutely necessary (food, vet and human doc emergencies) as we’ve been asked to. Why contribute to the death rate? We don’t actually know that six feet apart is even safe. It’s probably not, but it’s about the only way we can go about necessary things without panicking - pretend to believe it until we can get the heck out of the grocery store.

I am not so sure about this..Florida and S.C. have had sunshine and warmth and the cases keep mounting. Kenya, Sudan and other warm and sunny locations also have increasing case loads.
I am going on what a friend of mine who is a nurse practitioner said. She says it will die in the environment if it is sunny. Just on the surfaces that are in direct sunlight. It doesn't kill it everywhere.

Please, this is not the time to clog up apartment buildings plumbing.

California Water Board: Don’t flush disinfecting wipes down toilet

"That's the message the State Water Board wants to get out, warning that it's important to discard those items in the trash, not the toilet."

This is not the time to completely break down the sewer system.

"A majority of urban centers are on centralized sewage collection systems depend on gravity and enough water flow to move along human waste and biodegradable toilet paper. The systems were not designed for individual nylon wipes and paper towels. The wipes and paper towels do not break down like toilet paper, and therefore clog systems very quickly."

Travel Update re: COVID-19

On March 18, 2020, the Prime Minister announced that the Canada-US border will be closed to all non-essential travel in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

An official global travel advisory is in effect: Canadians should avoid all non-essential travel outside of Canada, including to the United States. Canadian citizens currently traveling outside of Canada should return as soon as possible. Canadians who are travelling outside of Canada in need of emergency consular assistance can contact Global Affairs Canada’s 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa at 1 613-996-8885 or email sos@international.gc.ca.

For travellers arriving in Canada

Federal and provincial public health leaders have recommended that all travellers returning to Canada self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival. These efforts will contribute to slow the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in Canada.

Ohio State University's president announced today that two members of the university community have tested positive for coronavirus and are self isolating. One person just returned from travel to the west coast, and the other to the east coast.
Students have already left for remote learning, so this is probably administrators, faculty or staff. MOO
