unless he wiped his laptop knowing he was going to get caught - he
had more than enough time to do it.

You can do all the deletions you want, but unless you actually switch out the hard drive they will be able to find anything and everything that has ever been on that laptop....A delete only makes room for more files, but it does not actually delete it from the hard drive.

First thank you for joining WS.
I'm confused on one point (for now) Mr F said that SF came home from being with her friends and they had an argument about her wanting to go out again. She went anyway.
From what you are saying she never went home?????
Thank you in advance

IMO

I believe that last night on Greta one of the family said she had not been home since Saturday.

Good post, Cottages. The thing is... IMO, Aruba doesn't want any further investigation into the whereabouts of Natalee because it will expose the extent of their cover-up and corruption since day one of her disappearance. I don't think the murder of Stephany will all of a sudden make them want to co-operate any more than they ever did, which was nil. On the contrary, I think they're quaking in their boots that all their skeletons will finally be revealed. They just want this to all go away and the focus to be off them. Now, with Joran's help that's not gonna happen. Just my opinion.

bolded by me.

I agree but maybe they've figured out a way to spin all this in their (Aruba's) favor? Don't know how, though...

From everything I have learned you are correct Kimmer...people mistakenly think things are gone but they can be retrieved.......by people who know how to do it:dance:

Viewing some of the tv shows about USA prisons they have on tv regularly with paint chipping off the walls and over-crowding and looking at the video of the prison Joran's in I don't see where there appears to be a lot of difference. I'm skeptical as to the suffering some of the talking heads say he's encountering. They've said it's like entering the gates of he!!. If you ask me, any prison would be that to me. Joran was so seemingly smug when he was in prison (jail whatever) in Aruba and the shoddy hostel he was staying in for $30 a nite he doesn't seem to be very troubled by any of it in my opinion. Right now I'm not very worried about him "suffering" in that prison. I do think he's playing cards, visiting and adjusting as any other murderer/thief would. How high could the standards be of anyone chosing such a life; ugh

LOL, you are so right. Look at Maricopa county with Sheriff Joe Arpaio. At least no pink underwear in Peru. Or any kind of uniform for that matter, which they consider demeaning. Peruvians might consider Maricopa worse than Castro Castro.

Im my younger years I worked on a resort island. Hundreds of thousands
of tourists came there each summer. The administration of the island was
always hoplessly overwhelmed to handle all the problems that came up
much less a high profile murder. The bottom line for the island was keeping its positive image up and negative publicity down, to keep the tourists coming. I have every reason to believe Aruba is such a place.
I dont think the Holloway case ever had a chance of being handled on
Aruba ... any more than Aruba could conduct a space program!

Places like Aruba need to be administered from the outside with a very
stringent adminstration and people going there should be signed in and out like the Forest Service requires people to sign in before going up the sides of Mount McKinley!

People take so very much for granted in a tourist trap. The odds say nothing will happen
to you, but something will happen to someone. Natalie Holloway and Stephany wound up
being 'somebody' - any women's rape counseling service would tell you that odds.

Yup, he'd need to take the hard drive out and run it over with a truck about 10 times - you can't even burn the darn things. I've even learned they can retrieve hard drives from water and still extract information! As we've learned from many recent cases, the delete key doesn't do much. Nothing just goes "poof" on a computer ;)

I doubt that money would be an incentive for Trujillo to kill JVS. He's probably being well funded in there by his Columbian contacts. Perhaps he could be enticed just by the fact that he might get some "respect" or "honor" from the guards and inmates if he is the one who takes down this "monster"?

I think there's a problem here. Trujillo is a hitman on the OUTSIDE. How can you be a hitman in prison? That's the whole idea of a hitman, he's a mysterious figure that goes around killing people for hire. I really don't think JVDS is in any danger with his new poker buddy. I think it's the guards, staff and inmates that will be his downfall.

You can also take it to a computer shop and ask them to wipe the hard drive. My husband did that once to see if it would fix a bunch of bugs. It worked. Probably cheaper just to buy a new one today (this was years ago).

MOO

Ok, so now Aruba is just opened the door to possibly make a 'formal request' to come to Peru and be involved in the investigation?

The Aruvan case should be turned over to somebody else to solve!
Possibly the Peruvians since they obviously know what they are doing ...

Alejandro Trujillo has been in the news a lot since last year as this is another complicated murder case. To make the story short, he is the "suspected" assassin of Myriam Fefer and the intellectual authors of the murder are suspected to be Myriam's daughter, Eva Bracamonte and her former partner, Liliana Castro (they are also being held in jail). I don't think that there's nearly as much animosity against Trujillo as there is towards Eva, but no one is really safe in prison.

I had to wait a few days since I registered to be able to post... I'm from Lima, and having this case in the news all the time makes me think about it a lot. I'm 21, I have some friends who went to school with Stephany. I live about 1 km from the Hotel...

There's been speculation on why Stephany went with VDS to the hotel, but what I find strange is what she did earlier in the day (it might be related to what motivated her to go with VDS). I tried looking for discussion on this in one of the threads but couldn't find anything specific. El Comercio mentions that in the afternoon she picked up her friend Carola and went with her to the Hotel Pacífico (why did she go to the hotel? this isn't the tourist kind of hotel... I think this is why there have been rumors that she was a lesbian before it was known that she didn't have sex with VDS).

Another friend met them and the three girls went to a pub in Barranco. Stephany took the girls home but dropped of first the one that lived in Chacarilla, close to her own home, and then the one that lives in San Isidro. I don't know how her friends would think that she wasn't going to the Casino after picking this route, it makes little sense otherwise... If she was thinking of going home she would've dropped of the San Isidro girl first...

I'll try to keep track of the VDS threads... Maybe I could also translate some articles.

Welcome danielabc!!

I really would be surprised if the Peruvians give Anita the Joran reception.
The Peruvians do not have the intimate knowledge of what went on in Aruba like we at WS have. She is just his mother(pity her) and did not commit any crimes as far as they are concerned.

Last night on Greta she asked the Flores family how they felt about his mother and they said they exact same thing. She cannot be responsible for what ger son has done.

Its a question of software, yes? Lets see what they find.

I can wipe my 200gig HD and install a fresh OS with some files saved - in 16 minutes. Joran is probably 'puter saavy. Its only a question of software.

Information from AP that attorney quits again. Says he will stay for the next few days until family arrives from Aruba. This is a freaking merry go round. jmo

Thanks, MCK16!

The article also states:

"Dutch officials said before Van der Sloot was charged last week that his mother, a schoolteacher in Aruba, might have to borrow money in order to afford defense counsel. She has refused to talk to reporters."

This gives some credence to an earlier opinion that his lawyer will be paid by some Dutch news or tv outlet, IMO. Especially, since it's also been reported that she will arrive with Dutch TV reporters.

Call me a conspiracy theorist if want, but after watching the Holloway case for five years, this makes me nervous, Aruba officials trying to work things out with Peru and coming to talk to Joran and him having the funds for a high-flying attorney.

Joran getting away with the Holloway disappearance was not luck. It was the right connections. Perhaps those connections didn't go away when his dad passed away. Or, they're afraid he'll 'spill the beans' on those that know...[snipped for space]

Yeah, I'm concerned, too, and for the same reasons. But here's a thought I am hoping Beth, Dave and John Q. Kelly are thinking about: pressing for US investigation to join the Peruvians and the Arubans because Natalee was a US citizen and Joran is currently wanted in the US. I feel quite certain of Stephany's family being committed to getting justice in Peru, but it wouldn't hurt for the US to put some pressure on to counterbalance the Arubans. Based on their track record, getting justice for these two young women is the last thing on the Aruban agenda. I want to see the FBI down there, getting some payback for Natalee and for letting Joran out of the country when they KNEW he was extorting money from her family. So I hope we get American LE down there.

It's my opinion too. Thank you.

My older son thinks he 'wanted' to get caught. He was broke, had kept moving for years...he thinks he was tired and maybe guilt was finally wearing him down. He feels he killed this girl and left a clear cut trail because he was ready, and wanted to get caught. FWIW

Did JVDS "want" to get caught?
Hi CarmelEyesD. Well, your son may indeed be correct.
I tend to think that no one, really wants to get caught. Ever.

I do think that over time, people like JVDS (and many other cases), get sloppy. They are over confident, due to their success in getting away with stuff in the past. They think they are smarter than everyone else.

Fast forward in time, and the task of constantly conjuring up lies, and connecting dots where there are none, is tiring. Being constantly on the prowl for a victim (of a scam, internet fraud, theft - you name it), can be tiring. He might resort to "short cuts". Short cuts that got him caught.

JVDS under estimated Peruvian National Police's B.S. radar.
And he get caught.
