Victim: Amber Lynn Costello, 27, missing Sept 2010, found Gilgo Beach Dec 2010 *Rex Heuermann charged*

RE: Phones left behind. Do you think it's possible the perp told the girls he wanted their undivided attention and he was willing to pay more for this? Maybe he told them he didn't want them distracted by anything... specifically calls/messages from their pimps/boyfriends/other clients? It was all about him!

IMO that wouldnt work.I think its more likely that they forgot there phone, which I find kinda hard to believe since these women make their money off theor phones. However I was thinking...a lot of times escorts have more than one phone so they can place more than one ad eusing slightly different descripsions of themselves...thereby increasing their odds of booking a call. When I did this I just transfered *72ed the calls from one phone to another and when I saw the same number call twice I knew to change my voice and my description. Just a thought.

So, you don't think it's likely a client would ask such a thing, or the girls wouldn't consider doing this if a client asked... or both?
And, do most girls look out for each other, or does "competition" override?

PS Some time ago, on another thread, there was a little discussion about websites escorts can use to review clients. Did you use any of these types of sites? Do you think they're well known in the escort business? I know it's a lifestyle choice and it is risky to say the least, but I keep hoping there is some sort of reliable safety net (of sorts?) that might be available for escorts.

Maybe street corner prostitutes look out for each other, but the internet business is a lot more anonymous. And when it comes to those phone stories, I think, there is some unspoken part in it. Like the main contact worked via the pimps. But that doesn't exclude those girls had private cell phones. And by all means, would they leave them actually behind, regardless what the john wants? One can switch the ringing off. So, it doesn't make sense to me, unless LE and in consequence we, stare like hypnotized rabbits at the wrong phones.

I keep thinking that when Amber and Megan ran out to the guy's car...they did not intend to leave with them or to leave with them, immediately. The thought that keeps coming to me is that when they went out to the meet the person they still weren't decided but agreed to speak to the this person face to face. Or the stories that DS and AK told were not true and that both Amber and Megan ran out to talk to someone they did know...like a drug dealer.

There could be, at least for MW an even easier solution. Somewhere, and I can't find that article now, was mentioned, MW had kind of a sweet tooth. And there is still this convenience store nearby, full of candy. So there's an alternative to she met with this guy in the form, some guy blitz-attacked her on that empty slot next to the hotel.

I think it's possible that a client might ask. There was one client I remember that would call the services and ask that the girls drive themselves (he didn't want a man sitting in a car in his driveway) that is understandable but I refused to see him and I refused to send anyone else to see him. I'm sure their were some that honored his request but I just felt better safe than sorry.

I honestly don't think ANYONE in this business would leave their phone behind at his request. They might humor him and say they did, and then turn off the ringer.

I never used any of the review sites to check on clients. I honestly wasn't aware they were out there. I knew of sites were the clients could review the escort but not vice versa.

We used a system for safety. Say I booked a call for someone. She calls me when she leaves her house, calls me when she arrives outside the call, calls me in the first three to five minutes to tell me she's arrived (which also lets me know in code that she is paid and feels safe), five minute before the hour is up she calls me to tell me she's leaving or staying an extra hour, and finally she calls me when she is safely out of the door.

If I am going on a call that I booked through my service I have a driver. I call him to let him know all is good ,when I get there and before I leave.

This works because the client knows that somebody is keeping tabs on you.

If the client has you come to his house you have his address and phone number. If he calls from a hotel you ask him the name he is registered under, then you call the hotel back and ask for him by name, verifying that he is who he says he is. Most hotels require ID

There are a lot of other tricks to staying safe. I did this for a little more than twelve years. I learned as I went...I evolved...it didn't take long. I've had a few encounters, you have to be alert aware and in charge at all times. Its a tricky business.

Where I live isn't a big city. It isn't exactly a small town either. There is a network between most of the escorts in town, it works. There are a few who are extremely competitive, they don't want to share their clientle, they are afraid the other woman will steal their business. Most however, realize that networking gets them more business...no need to "steal" clients! There are plenty out there!

Let me try to explain...lets say, I can't book a call for myself, because, I am not petite, or don't have a DD bust size or maybe I'm just not available. I still want to make money, so I promote other women and charge a service fee. They do the same. The same guys call ALL the services in the book so if everyone is promoting each other it increases your chances of being booked. The trick is to use different names and slightly different descriptions for each service that promotes you.

I might have two phones with different numbers. I might give one of my phones to another person to answer or I might transfer them to one phone and change up my voice. We never answered blocked or restricted numbers.

Incidently I have been out of the business for five years. Admittedly times changed, but I still know women in the business and some still advertise in the phone book but alot are doing it online. Most however have these types of safety precautions in place.

I don't know if that helps. I feel like I've left a lot out. I apoligize if my writing is hard to read and my thoughts aren't properly organized and my puncuation and spelling are horrendous.

I just want to add that quite a number of women in this business don't have a "pimp" they arevery independent. They may have boyfriends and drivers but don't always assume that these men are there pimps!

You did a very good job of explaining and I appreciate you taking the time to do so! Thank you.

JusticeForever-I'd also like to thank you for your interesting inside information on the escorts world, your posts are always easy to follow and well written!

Yes, Thanks for your perspective Justice ... good to get info from someone who has been in the biz. Your input is appreciated.

Interesting thought. Especially when we consider that Maureen had already checked out of her hotel room and was looking for a ride home when she vanished.

And MB was reported to have gone outside supposedly to wait for a ride.

Taking the bus to where? Her hotel was in times square, walking distance from the Port Authority. Where would she take the bus to? Long Island? I dont think so, where would the bus take her? Not many people take the bus in NYC. Only old people. She could have been planning to take the A, C or E train down one stop to 34th street penn station where she could catch, LIRR, NJTransit or even a train home. What was she doing IN the port authority?

What did you think was interesting? I thought it was kinda interesting that he said " her" cell phone when he had already claimed it was his...maybe hes just feeling bad because he didnt want her to take his cell phone..he seems like hes leaving something out though...
What are your thoughts about it?

Would an escort leave makeup behind?

“When police searched the hotel room they found Waterman's clothing, makeup, cell phone and other belongings, Ela said.”

Wait wait wait ... she was not looking for a ride home, she was at a bus terminal. That indicates the intention to take a bus.

Yes, Maureen WAS looking for a ride home and had asked her friends for a ride but they were unable to give her one for some reason. She had left her hotel which was only about 1/2 mile from the Port Authority, but her plan was to get home.

Home. The hotel room was only rented for meeting with clients. She came only to NYC to conduct business. She was from Norwich. She had reached Manhattan only that morning the same way.
And to make that stick even more: She called friends and vented some steam about being robbed earlier and that all she wanted at that point was going home (it's all in her victim's thread).

Exactly. Now, if she had intended to meet a client at this point, why would she have checked out of her hotel room (where she did business), and why would she be calling home to see if anyone could come get her? Doesn't make sense, imo. I suspect that she knew her killer, and called him for a ride (perhaps a previous client, acqaintance, connection, who knows?)...but that's simply speculation. Nothing solid to base that on.

FYI:

According to MBB's sister (her WS nickaname "meltruth") MBB told her that she would go to NY the evening of July 6th (Friday), stay for the weekend and return July 9th (Monday)
So that would mean MBB was in NY 4 days; Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday and monday when she apparently disappeared.
