Jane Rimmer: Terrible discovery etched in the mind

Unbelievable that an old couch was dumped on exact site and the memorial cross has been stolen ! I do hope police have taken the couch for testing

Ok but nothing on "battered old secondhand white van"
And can't view any articles on http://go.galegroup.com
Posting the article instead of the link would be helpful.

Nearly two years have passed since Perth's

serial killer abducted his first victim. So,

are police close to an arrest? MARK RUSSELL

reports.

***************************

IT sounded like the breakthrough police had been waiting for in the

hunt for Perth's serial killer.

A wallet belonging to secretary Sarah Spiers had been found,

supposedly, under the seat of a battered old second-hand white van.

The rumor was that a young couple had paid a few thousand dollars for

the van and had been cleaning it when they saw the wallet.

The Macro taskforce, investigating Ms Spiers' disappearance and the

murders of two other young women, was alerted and the van was taken by

police for forensic tests. It was a tantalising piece of gossip that

swept the city, but police were quick to dismiss it as yet another

urban myth surrounding the case.

BEFORE disappear ing into thin air, Julie Cutler probably knew the introverted man who became and

remains the prime suspect for the Claremont serial murders.

<modsnip>

The shy suspect, who volunteered for a lie-detector test which he reportedly failed, has consistently denied involvement in the Claremont murders.

The suspect was dis tressed by overt surveillance mounted by police outside his home and work last year.

Surveillance tailed off last year but the suspect remains upset by the ongoing suspicion.

He said in a recent interview he was at the point of telling police: ``Just shoot me''.

Supt Caporn is keeping his cards close to his chest on the Cutler connection.

``There may well be a connected offence before Sarah Spiers, but I am not going to elaborate on that,'' Supt Caporn said.

And the white van?
I really need to join that library hey.

Turns out to be an urban myth or was it just held back from the public?

This is probably nothing but:
Was just watching The Claremont Killer Part 2 and at the 2min20 mark, LW is driving off from somewhere and the overt surveillance teams follows.. and there is what appears to be a white holden commodore station wagon... could be a neighbors car or something... But interesting for all those on the LW bandwagon

yep noticed that before and considered at that time it may have been a press vehicle on hot pursuit of LW being pursued by police lol

mumsy and dadsy pottered off to bed at 11.30pm on the night CG was abducted. Perfect timing for LW to make it up to Stirling Highway Claremont for an abduction at 12.15 (AM ish); especially if mumsy and dadsy had a little extra something mixed into their warm milk nightcap for zzzzs. And it's perfect timing for LW's routine for leaving home (most nights) at exactly 11.30pm at night to go off on his compulsive driving routine, whilst under surveillance.

The below quote is from an article dated 10/2/2002 (Sydney Mail) -- she's got a pretty good memory for an old girl.

``They've got nothing to charge him with because there's nothing to charge him for,'' Mrs Williams said. ``He was living with us at the time of the last incident. We know he was in the house because we were watching a TV program until 11.30pm that night.''

The information about RZ knowing Jane is internet rumour or misinformation. The information about knowing and working with Ciara (and in the same legal team) and the card signing is correct. He left the employ of Blake Dawson Waldron near the end of 1994, commenced study into health and fitness and worked with his stepfather (Jan Zak) and mother's (aka Danuta Kosiorek) painting business D & J Painting. His stepfather also was a keen scuba diver and instructor and RZ participated in scuba diving.

RZ gravestone has his name as Romuald Tood (unfortunately misspelled - should be Todd) Kosiorek and reference to stepfather's surname Zak.

RZ was not living at his parent's house prior to his admission to Graylands Hospital. He lived independently in a flat in Main Road, Osborne Park (near corner of North Beach Drive). He drove a small 2wd vehicle. On the night that SS was abducted, he was hospitalized and in recovery mode after having a penile enhancement procedure. There were 2 attempted suicides recorded prior to his death. His (younger ?) brother worked for a large vehicle retailer located at Victoria Park which btw sell Holdens.

People say he had visited CG's gravesite on several occasions, but the thing here is that he was hospitalized in Graylands from the 13 April 1997, CG was located on 3rd April and funeral service on 11th April therefore if he visited her grave at Karrakatta several times this occurred over 2 days.

I know you were not on the thread for a little while, but I asked if you could supply a source for the information on Romuald Zak. I have looked for articles about him and haven't found anything with near the level of detail you posted. Where did you learn of his surgery? That is a very personal procedure, IMO.

I think this photo of Ferguson was taken before 1996. I've seen that t-shirt somewhere and can't for the life of me remember where ? Can anyone make out what the label (on neckline) says ? There is also some sort of writing detail in the sleeve ?

No clue whatsoever. I see black writing on the shirt's left sleeve, and possibly a stain on the other sleeve. But I cannot make out any tag details.

Posted the prices a while back but here is a period article with prices: http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring-services/reviews/car-reviews/holden/commodore-vs.htm
Started from 27,700K for basic executive model
Chump change for some in the Claremont/Surrounds area

I did read your original post, but it was too much to compute the exchange rate and inflation :)

Thanks for the general comparison and thanks to Bart and Silver for their assessments.

Most serial killers don't drive brand new vehicles, even if they are mid-priced.

(O/T: The only other serial killer I can think of off the top of my head who drove a new vehicle is Christopher Wilder, so maybe it is an Australian idiosyncrasy.)

I assume you meant at least 2 profiles - that being CG's profile + nProfiles (where n is the number of offenders).
You can generally deduce the male profile from the victim's profile. This is obv. dependent on things such as Quality, Quantity, DNA method, No of STR markers used etc
2 male profiles + victim would be very tough but not impossible

Thanks.

Yes, I did mean CG might have had DNA from two different men under her nails. But I don't really think there are two offenders. How easy/common is it to pick up someone else's DNA under your nails just through normal-ish interaction?

Using CPI All Groups index the Executive starting price in current dollars is $46,243 - not a "first car".

:seeya: Billy, your t-shirt pic needs a link.

Thank you!

Thank you!

The curious 'Santa Fe night in Chile' shirt is here:

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/30639442/how-sarah-vanished-into-a-january-night/

The article says that within a few days of being reported missing, police were treating Sarah's case as a homicide. She was very attached to and considerate of her family, but that seems premature.

Police bumble their way through numerous aspects of the investigation, but are light-years ahead of the game in linking and categorizing Sarah and Jane's (Post #1101) cases. It took 13 years to consider and connect Karrakatta--despite the views of Dick Ault (one of the FBI's most respected), other detectives, and Karrakatta herself.

Just a wild idea, but I wonder if police had an early communication from the CSK that has never been released?

Claremont supposedly had a fairly high amount of public housing even though it was generally not a poor place.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/6585576/public-housing-rife-in-some-rich-areas/

Maybe something about the mix... inner city with a nightlife to it, rich people along with poor people many of whom may have got their houses through showing extremely disadvantaged backgrounds, a university just down the road so lots of young people and a high turnover of residents.... just a good place to get away with pretending to be what you're not?

That's Mt Claremont which is a different suburb. Claremont has a few distinct areas;

Premo - between Stirling Hwy and River.
Nice - between Stirling Hwy and Swanbourne Train Station. A fair few period homes
Still pretty god-damn nice - between Stirling Hwy and The Show Grounds (i.e. around Rowe Park)

Povo - Davies Rd. Big tall block of flats there that were full of riff-raff in the day.

Then around the corner which is more Mt Claremont (the old part) I think there was some houso on Alfred Rd across from the golf course (this is where the Cott Hotel abduction victim was trying to get away from the abductor). Big white block of townhouses.

Mosman Park has lot's of houso. One one hand some of Perth's most expensive real estate and in some parts, povo central with a heroin problem.

Hi ya Sutton. I thought I`d post re the Commodore VS series 1 or 2. As stated I looked at buying one in 1995 approx. and that is the truth too. It was at an Auction house 100 m down the road from where I once worked in Ewing St, Bentley. Right across the road from where another Car Auction mob is located today. It was a Holden Commodore Series 2 white Telstra Executive SEDAN. I used a series of 5 ticks to note what was the best car to buy. It was just my thing at the time. It was low kms, & the best nick one that I liked. I had given it 5 ticks to help me choose one. At the time they were going from @ $11000 to $12000. I know previously I said it was higher but that was incorrect as now I have remembered. I should have bought that Commodore from them as it was cheap. But I didn`t. Now Sutton you mentioned maybe the CSK contacted the Police? Well I have asked the SCS & they said he has not contacted them. Nor has he sent them anything. Nor were items from one girl left at another as someone on here eluded to.
