GUILTY CA - Brock, 42, & Davina Husted, 42, pregnant, murdered, Faria Beach, 3 June 2009

The news this morning interviewed the sheriff. He said they think it may have been a transient.

IMO, that makes no sense, especially that he was wearing a helmet.

what happened to the 'good old days' - when burglars wore a mask & tied up the vics so they could steal $$ and jewelry, instead of all these brutal slayings???

this world is crazy....I've found myself saying 'this is the end of days' more often in 2009 than I ever have.

Could this be because you have been reading here for 2009........

I know that since I am a natural news junkie that in the years since I have had internet I just see more. I have old news papers from the turn of the century that has just as horrible stuff, just all regional. At least now, with current technology, there seems to be more solved.

And, in the good old days, burglars actually burgled the home. Was anything stolen?

VENTURA, Calif. — Investigators are targeting transient campgrounds in the hunt for clues to the slayings of a pregnant woman and her husband in a Southern California beachfront home

I've lurked here for years, and have been a true crime junkie for a loooong time...and while evil has always lurked among us, and crime rates in some areas are said to be decreasing, so many of the violent crimes I read of or see on the news are beyond comprehension.

This doesn't make any sense to me either!

I know the area very well- I'm from here.

I saw the local news last night, and read the article on the front page of our local paper this morning.

It is being speculated that it may have been a member of the transient/homeless community that lives along the beach. I have never seen a homeless person wearing a motorcycle helmet.

To someone standing on the shoreline at night, looking into that house with it's lights on, would have been like standing there looking into a goldfish bowl or something. No privacy at all for the occupants.

The weather is cool at night, but not cold... I have had all my windows open at night, all night, for weeks now. That couple was completely
exposed without even being aware of it. Their every movement while at the back of that house may have been up for the killer's consumption and they didn't even know it.

This kind of crime is just about unheard of around here.

Is it just me, or does this triple homicide just scream "hit", as in murder for hire?

I just don't see it as being a homeless person wandering in through the back door.

that's what I'm thinking...and why I was wondering earlier if either of them had "ex's".

guess I'll go looking for that info now.

I don't think it was a "hired" hit, because that is usually a clean kill done with a gun. I think it was done by the person who wanted them killed.

I wonder if it had anything to do with his business, maybe someone who was recently fired etc?

But I also do not think it was random or done by a transient.

This crime has me stumped! I'm on the fence about a "hit man", but I really don't think homeless person. I mean, this house was a $3 million beach house, I'm sure they had things of value there, money, jewelry, etc. Why wasn't anything taken? If a transient had been watching the house previously, he would most certainly know that there were kids in the house. Why just kill the mom & dad?

True, about the gun. Also, a professional hit man could have made his shot without even going in the house.

Did anyone see the movie Mr. Brooks?
It's all I can think of in terms of random.

There is one thing that keeps standing out in my mind, but it's probably far fetched. Their kids were close in age and quite a bit older for the couple to be starting all over again. I think their kids were 9 and 11.

I am wondering if this baby was not the husband's? I know it's a horrible thought. :(

Police specialists have drawn up four main categories of "hits": disputes over the payments of debts or financial dealings; disputes over drugs; domestic arguments between former lovers; and fighting between rival organised crime groups.

So far, I've not found previous marriages...read they were engaged for 5 years, BH wasn't happy about having kids until his daughter was born then he became a family man....DH's pregnancy was a surprise but they were happy about it.

Well, lets see . . . we can guess that whoever went in, went in to murder them, because he didn't rob anything.

He had on a motorcycle helmet, probably so he wouldn't be recognized or described by neighbors, but he must have not cared if the Husteds recognized him. Also, he must have put it on just before he came in, because he came in the door facing the beach, and everybody around would notice someone on the beach wearing a motorcycle helmet.

He was wearing a jumpsuit or coveralls, to maybe protect his clothes from the blood? He could have peeled that off and walked down the beach or into some nearby landscaping and over to his car (if he drove one there.)
The neighbors say they didn't hear a motorcycle in the area.

To tell you the truth, I would be looking at whether there may be a murderer in the neighborhood. Maybe someone developed a fixation on Mrs. Husted or someone wanted to try out murdering people. Let's hope they find those coveralls (or the knife or helmet) soon.

I wonder if the little boy screamed or if either one of them said anything. :( The neighbors said they didn't hear anything.

It's interesting that the murderer was not concerned about the child screaming etc.

10:30 at night is fairly early too.

Re the campground a few hundred feet from the crime:

"Campers were talking Friday about a man carrying an object that looked like a motorcycle helmet who walked through the camp Wednesday night, before anyone knew what had happened."

The other thing is, and I'm not suggesting anything, just sayin' -- re the camp host (Jan Cullum's husband):

"Her husband, Anthony, walks the campground at night on security detail, usually around 10 p.m.
He has a neck problem that usually makes it hard for him to sleep, especially if the camp is active. But on Wednesday, the camp was quiet and he felt he could get a good night’s rest. He didn’t make his patrol.
She said he partly blames himself for not seeing the man.
“For some reason, that night, it just seemed so quiet and peaceful, he decided to go to bed early,” Cullum said."

I'm just pointing out something out of the ordinary that coincided with the murder time.

Late catching up on this case so sorry if this has already been mentioned, but didn't a neighbor 1/2 mile away or so report that they thought someone was in their house, heard things moving around but just thought it was theie houseguest, Come to find out the houseguest was not home at the time??

Did I dream that??
