Oh. I just realized that was where his cell phone pinged. So it was 2 miles from the last ping. Why did it take so long to find his car, I wonder?

A hunter found it, so I'm assuming it was hidden?

i want to know if the car was wrecked. was it hidden and parked, or wrecked and in brush/down an incline or something of the sort? if he wrecked ad was injured and walked away to look for help, he might be around that area.

I agree. The article said they searched but I think they should call in a SAR group like Texas Equusearch.

Glad to see some progress, thank god for hunters or so many of these cases would turn up nothing! I wish there were more details about the condition of the car, were the keys with it, did it have gas, was it hidden, wrecked? So many questions, so little answers.

If you look on the map, Prosser Dam Rd. near Alder Hill is in the area of a golf course, subdivision and reservoir that has streets and homes not too far away. Also, the satellite view indicates a high desert mountain type landscape, and not a deep lush forest in the immediate area.

He stayed in Reno with his cousin for two days and was expected to start his new job at Rock & Rose, Inc., on 10739 Glenshire Drive. He was scheduled to start late that morning and was no his way to Truckee when he disappeared, according to his family and investigators.

On Wednesday evening, Griego confirmed Gallardo’s car was recently found two miles north of Truckee.

“A hunter in the area found the vehicle, and the license plates matched,” Griego said.

If we have to wait for LE or MSM to tell us where the car was found, we'll be waiting forever. In an attempt to narrow down the
possibilities, I started by finding out what hunting zone cross-walks between the Alder Hill cell tower (phone pings detected)
and the hunting zone for this time of year (archery).

I narrowed Deer hunting in Truckee down to zone X7b, as shown on this map.
http://plicmapcenter.org/pdf/CA_BLM_NorthDeer_PLIA.pdf

Specific details about the zone are here:
https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=83701

Hunt A-14 is in the zones identified on this map.

Which means the areas in purple are NOT designated hunting areas.

All this is NOT far from his new job, which could also fall into the zone where his phone pinged.

Wow! Brilliant deductions GigTu!

Well, it didn't really tell us anything except where the car was NOT found. What I find interesting is the phone pings and their relation to the area of the new job.

Is it possible his car was "dumped" by someone else, in opposition to him having driven it out there himself? But why? I'm curious how close it was to the reservoir. For it to have remained out of sight for a whole year makes me think it was stashed in a (obviously) less travelled location. That was purposeful, imo.

I considered that it could have been dumped there too. However, I've just done the timeline and I think he drove it there because his girlfriend claims he answered the phone but she only heard "hello" and then the call disconnected. Unless there is a chance someone else answered the phone and she didn't realize it wasn't Daniel. :(

She claims she just thought the call had been dropped due to loss of signal but his phone was pinging off all those towers in the area. How bad could the signal be there? It feels like the call was either interrupted or it wasn't Daniel who answered. IDK.

ETA: I just realized HE called HER. Observations about the weirdness of the call location and call dropping still stand though.

Thanks, Gardener. You rock! Good job!!! I love timelines and maps to help make sense of things.

Thanks, it really helps me too, to read all the media stories at once. I like having it all in one post to reference later when new info comes to light.
