CA CA - East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer *ARREST* #5

It was really good, was surprised to see that they included a relative of GSK and his ex g.f. Bonnie too.
2 relatives (if you count the niece who came to live with JJD for a few years as a teenager). And I was so glad Bonnie decided to participate too. It was just very well done, great editing, and seeing all the survivors at the garden party was special. The one creepy thing--wasn't that weird how Wes, the nephew, remembered a man wearing a ski mask in his bedroom late one night? Can't imagine why JJD would do that in his sister's home (if that's what happened).

The HBO series (I'll Be Gone In The Dark) has been wonderful. Highly recommend it. The final episode (#6) was on last night and I cried through half of it.
I found the final episode to be the best one of the whole series. The resilience of the survivors was so vivid. The women and men who are working hard to live their best lives showed so much vibrancy, especially compared to the pathetic husk of a murderous being that will soon sit withering in a courtroom, listening to what I hope is a parade of strong victim statements from these resilient people.

This article summarizes the final episode very well (so watch the episode first if you don't want spoilers)
I'll Be Gone in the Dark Series Finale "Walk Into the Light" - Review & Recap - Signal Horizon Magazine and also shared the best quote in the final episode from Patton Oswalt: these survivors “had every right to become horrible monsters like Joseph DeAngelo, and they didn’t. So the way that they’re living is such a “f*ck you” to him." He said they are saying “You tried to bring the same damage to us that forever warped you, and it didn’t work…you could’ve chosen to overcome this…F*ck you, Joseph DeAngelo.”

Now that the Golden State Killer has entered guilty pleas, one of the final steps in the State of California’s case against DeAngelo is the sentencing phase. Victims will be allowed to give impact statements. Judge Michael Bowman has promised that there will be no limitations of “time or content” on these statements. In a process that’s expected to last several days, victims and/or their surviving family members will have an opportunity to deliver these statements directly to the court.
There’s also the matter of financial restitution to the victims. That amount has not yet been determined. Also, as a part of the plea deal, DeAngelo has waived all appellate rights. After sentencing, the criminal case against DeAngelo for these particular crimes will largely be settled. Sentencing the week of 8/17/20.

Thanks so much for all of that!

JJD was born Nov 8, 1945 so his age at the time of killing the Maggiores was 32 years and 3 months old.

Thanks Niner .... I say wow .... he admitted to all those 76 old cases ... got to give him a tiny bit of credit for that .... he could have remained mute until he died of old age.

This way the victims at least get some closure.

Yes he was - but he killed Snelling in 1975... making him 29 years old...

from my notes:

I just wish it wasn't going to be so miserably hot (113 or so) for the people coming to give the statements.

I'm sure it will have a live stream (IMO).

I hope it's cathartic for the survivors and family members. He will sit there like a spud potato as he has been doing all along. He won't react he'll just tune out.

And then he'll be off to San Quentin for processing, evaluation, and eventual assignment to a prison.

@Niner

Today there was a hearing for about 30 minutes in which the prosecution wanted to introduce a few videos of JJD in his cell, taken at different days and times, to show he was agile and nimble and able to express remorse if he so wanted; he's not the practically comatose potato he pretends to be in court. I didn't see the hearing, just read about it. One of the videos was from a year ago or so in which he was 'pleasuring himself' while watching someone, a staff member I suppose. <pause for wave of nausea and icky poo face>.

The judge sided with the defense and said there was no reason to introduce these videos since JJD already pleaded guilty and his agility in his cell or expressing remorse doesn't matter since he pled guilty, this is sentencing, and he'll be in prison for life with no appeals or parole.

Four other gen pop San Q inmates have met the same demise. The 13 deaths are the second-most COVID-related deaths in the state prison system as of Wednesday afternoon (July 22, 2020). Nineteen inmates have died at the California Institution for Men in Chino.

According to the CDCR’s coronavirus tracker, there are 861 inmates at San Quentin with active infections, with 132 new infections within the last two weeks. Another 36 infected inmates have been released and 1,112 inmates have recovered from being infected with the virus.
