I donèt think I have ever locked our screen doors

I don't lock my screen door during the day, but always at night, maybe that is what is meant by it.

I mean that the front and back doors are always open and the screen doors unlocked during the day.

Maybe her coat/jacket was zipped up and he grabbed it from the back pulling it up around her throat. If they were arguing when they came home I can see this happening. She stalks off, he grabs her jacket and pulls, it lodges around her throat and he keeps pulling until she stops resisting. Then again if the coat.jacket had a hood maybe it also had a cord as many jackets/coats do to tighten the hood around the head. He could have used that.
Just adding, if we go with the winter coat/boots speculation from the Frank mag, perhaps a scarf/purse strap/key lanyard could've been used as ligature on HS when the murderer first attacked.

What if they weren't arguing when they got home but later got in an argument and HS put her coat on to leave and BS followed her? Not sure I think that's what happened but another possibility.

The family of Barry and Honey Sherman have hired a pathologist to conduct a second autopsy on their bodies, CTV News Toronto has learned.

The billionaire founder of Apotex Pharmaceuticals and his wife were found dead on Dec. 15, in the basement pool area of their North York home. Sources tell CP24 the pair were found hanging.

The coroner said the cause of their deaths was ligature neck compression. Homicide investigators have taken the lead in the investigation, though they are still classifying the deaths as suspicious.
Neighbours of the Sherman’s along Old Colony Road, in the Bayview and 401 area, told reporters Saturday the continued police activity on the street is unsettling to them.

As I have mentioned before I have very wealthy friends where the husband is very frugal, even down to refusing to have the house sprayed for spiders and they have had blazing rows over his cheapness in the over fifty years that they have been married. As far as I know, this has been the only issue in their marriage.

http://www.cbc.ca/listen/shows/as-it-happens/segment/15248554 for the original radio interview. Well worth the listen.
He is Murray Rubin, 87 years old. Not a current closely located neighbour as can be determined with a simple Google search to view his blog.

Thank you for posting this link. The gentleman I saw on tv was not 87 yrs old. I thought he lived next door or said he did and he stated that the side door was always open too. Seems a lot of people were aware of it. As I said before, the biggest mistake of their lives, probably.

Okay, we have been having an intense discussion about this in my house tonight. We used my husband's belt to create a loop (not around anyone's neck!!) and figured that the remaining end could be tied around the railing. This made the length of the belt so short, however, that we cannot come up with any possible way for anyone to then be able to manuever their jacket down behind their back. I am imagining that getting the jacket into that position would involve a lot of wiggling, and I just can't see how it would be possible.

I hope this makes sense...I am going back to lurking now. Thank you all for the insightful comments!

not sure if the link has been posted... certainly been cited here as that's how i knew about it.

what's new in frank magazine article,

1) last meeting/outing was to architect's. they came back separately as barry had come directly from work

2) barry = bad back, honey =180 lb.... also barry to receive order of canada - just threw it here to not start another point.

3) barry under investigation for offshore accounts?? ... article doesn't say it but purely my thought is money laundering. that would get you to very very serious and sophisticated adversaries..... this offshore accounts issue badly needs elaboration

article claims big pharma quite reasonable culprit ... but so many reasons that won't be the case. too numerous to mention but 1) big pharma is not a single entity. and these are canadian subs of unbelievably massive foreign corps, 2) how many corporate types have murdered people for that reason in canada and the USA?.. could cite about 10 more reasons

my thoughts are this: i think toronto police may have jumped the gun with their assessment. maybe they didn't know mr sherman's background at the time. but it is very very odd that they haven't moved the narrative much in that direction... maybe they are very careful due to the potentially litigious and embarassing situation here.

Totally Off Topic
Great to see you too - I was in your town a few months ago and sent a PM - sorry I missed you.

I live in Ontario now. Will send you a pm tomorrow!

What kind of evidence might they even be hoping to find? If the COD is ligature strangling, which ligature was on scene...

The belts. They were on scene, and according to news reports they deceased had their heads in the belts.

As for what is in the sewer - police were pressured to investigate these deaths as a double homicide, so that's what they are doing. If this was a real murder, where a weapon may have been used for coercion, police would be searching the sewer to see if a weapon was tossed near the home. It's a huge expense to the Toronto police force to satisfy the emotional needs of a wealthy family.

I donèt think I have ever locked our screen doors

Ever since I read (here) of that story of the pastor's wife who was murdered by a random home invasion in broad daylight, I always keep everything locked, even during the day. On a REALLY nice day I'll leave the back door open/screen unlocked (because it doesn't lock), but it has to be the perfect temp. Crap can happen anywhere :(.

That's very interesting. Maybe my speculations yesterday were close to the mark when I connected the most significant event in their lives at the time of this murder suicide to putting the house on the market and the recent demolition of the house.

If this happened right after a meeting with the architect, I think a conversation with the architect is really important. It wouldn't surprise me if a conflict was somehow related to cost and extravagance.

When you are a couple who have been confirmed to be one of the top 15 wealthiest family in the country and you are only demoing a house in an existing neighbourhood with 50FT frontage; even in Forest Hill - actually let's cut it short: billions over millions [Sherman wealth over the average neighbourhood family wealth] there was no conflict over "cost and extravagance" going on here

BBM

Good point.

I know the family are saying it was not a murder suicide but families are often in denial at first, they just cannot believe their parents would do something like that.

But the police, from the beginning said murder suicide so I have to believe they found evidence of that when they first arrived at the scene. Maybe scratches or other defensive wounds on BS or even dna under HS's nails.

They only backed off that murder suicide statement after the family threw a fit. Remember those four kids are now billionaires themselves, with many friends in high places, so of course LE is going to be very through and make sure there is no question in those very wealthy kids minds that is was anything other than that. Also those politicians in high places even up to the PM himself, are now looking for donations from these newly created billionaires, so they are going to put pressure on local LE to re-examine everything to make sure it is not a double homicide.

I don't agree. Barry Sherman's wealth is defined by his company, not his bank account. We have read repeatedly that he lived modestly. He was seventy five years old at the time of death, and I really doubt he wanted to build a bigger house. Everyone at that age knows they don't need nine bedrooms and bathrooms, and that stairs will inevitably become a challenge. Old money doesn't throw it around. Nuevo riche does. He came from an affluent family, she didn't.

I can easily see this couple, who are described as opposites, running into trouble regarding the design of their final retirement home.

Barry was, apparently well know for his extreme frugality.

Wow, that is very surprising.

I remember Micheal Moore went around and walked into Canadian homes in one of his documentaries just to prove that we don't lock our doors. It was hilarious. I suppose it depends on where you live but we only lock our doors at night before we all go to bed.
