I've always felt desperately sorry for Cherish's dad. He would have been so excited that she was coming to visit him the next day, and instead had to deal with what that did to his baby instead.

Why didn’t he get custody of the other two?

I am disgusted that no one in Walmart would help this woman when her daughter went missing. There are so many crimes of humanity here. It is gut wrenching

The Walmart store manager did help, and her experience that night still haunts her today, according to a local news article:

https://www.news4jax.com/news/local...aunting-night-cherish-perrywinkle-disappeared

The store manager said she was the first person that learned from RP that Cherish had been abducted. They locked the store down, searched, the manager lent RP her cell phone to call 911, pulled surveillance, fed RP's other two girls, then stayed with RP until police arrived.

From the video of Smith walking out with Cherish behind him, there's nothing apparent that would lead a stranger to think there was anything suspicious about her going out of the store with him - unfortunately most people would assume it was a child following a grandparent out of the store - not uncommon at all. :(

MOO, and I don't mean to sound bad, I just wanted folks to see the good things that were done that horrible night, too.

It’s Not Justice’ : Father of 8-Year-Old Murder Victim Speaks Out After Perpetrator Sentenced to Death

Thank you for the link, BUF (https://lawandcrime.com/high-profil...rs-daughter-she-had-a-good-life-ahead-of-her/). I'd wondered if Cherish's father would attend the final sentencing by the judge. I understand his position, and I'm glad he's having a statement read.
He’ll have his attorney read a statement on his behalf because he’s afraid of what he might do once he’s in the same room with the man who killed his daughter.

One of the worst cases that I've seen in a long time.

Did you notice the mother didn't find out the details until the testimony in court? I keep thinking she shouldn't have listened.

I have mixed feelings about the death penalty, but when the inmate is clearly guilty as in this case the appeal process needs to be much faster. Taking decades is just ridiculous, imho.

The reports from the stand are conflicting

Surely there was video footage of her trying to find help. This isn’t the first time I’ve read this information. Perhaps the manager was the first to help.

Not trying to argue... just don’t understand where the information disconnect is.

To me, one of the weirdest and creepiest things that stick out in my mind about this, was when he held his hand up like a sock puppet, and told RP that they were going to get cheeseburgers.
As far as the crack smoking, I don't believe he was smoking crack. On top of what others have said above, I would think that would have set off the smoke alarms in the bathroom. The other reason is, he said he burned his leg from the pipe in his pocket. He was photographed the day after without clothes, and the burn mark would have been seen imo, and could still be looked at in the photos.

I found another interesting article that I will post that talks about DS wanting the death sentence. I am not sure if this was reverse psychology or not, thinking the jury would not give him what they think he wants, and give him life without parole instead.
My apologies if this has been posted already. This thread is moving fast.

On The Killing Fields this week, the detective said he does not like when people talk about closure, with murders. Because nothing will ever give closure. He said he works so hard to avenge the person. I instantly thought of Cherish. There is no closure here. This chikd was tortured beyond belief and comprehension. Sentencing him to death doesn't give that closure. But it does avenge her. It is what he deserves, since it is the worst we can legally give. I like that. Avenging a person's death. It feels more powerful than just fighting for justice or closure.

I know I am really late on this, but tonight was the first time I could gather the courage to watch the Walmart video. I have a real hard time watching people in their last minutes alive. But a couple of things stood put to me. #1- for having no self control, as his defense says, he sure was able to hold his hands grasped together the entire time and not touch anyone. I Did Notice He Kept Them Grasped until they were walking out the front door. Like that was his way of restraining himself vs going into attack mode.

It also completely broke my heart to see her looking so thoughtfully at all the ahirts. Picking the ones that were most special to her. But really, there were no intentions for her to get any of them. I want to buy her a wardrobe of sparkly unicorn tshirts with rainbows and castles. Sweet girl. She deserved all the smiles in life. And he stole them.

He is a disgusting who had already got himself excited by his prospects of abusing Cherish, hence him keeping his hands grasped together while they were in the store, I am sure. He had also made Cherish very excited at the prospect of new clothes ... and even grown-up high heels.

Plotted and planned and manipulated a vulnerable family.

I will always remember this link from June 2013 ... the link is now dead, but the ETA in the post accurately states what the link said.

Rayne Perrywinkle told police Smith took Cherish into a dressing room twice, and expressed interest in buying the girl high heels.

Cherish Perrywinkle's mom: "I will not have closure as long as Donald Smith sits on death row" (with clip)

"..."I can't say it is closure until I know he is dead," said Rayne Perrywinkle, the mother of 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle, who was kidnapped, raped and murdered by Smith in 2013.

"He never gave Cherish a chance," she said.

Justice might be over for Cherish, but for her mother, it is one day at a time. She said she misses her daughter.

"I had a nightmare this morning ... I wake up every morning feeling nauseous, it never goes away," she said...

The case has attracted hateful comments on social media with many blaming Perrywinkle for what happened.

"It disgusts me how people are quick to judge me," she said.

But she has also found compassion on social media from other parents.

"People think that I gave my daughter Cherish away for a gift card, for drugs and for food, and that is not true at all," she said. "I lost her, I lost everything."..."
