FEATURED Help Find Marvin "Rusty" Holderman/ Police Reached out to Websleuths, 2008?

I see a lot of transients around Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. It's entirely possible that he is mixed in among them. I will look closely at some of them in search of that hair color. I imagine he'd be somewhat thinner now with less hair. But why would he not pick up his $1,000 check? If they find him alive, it seems that he'll have somewhere in the neighborhood of $100,000. That would make him wealthier than me.

This sort of thing happens often when older homeless people just reach a "zoned-out" point and/or get dementia. They forget about money, their names, all of life's important details and begin to wander to and fro, in and out of shelters and camps.

The "preacher" photo linked by a poster above looked a lot like him. You can compare the features to clear photos of MLH's living relatives who have FB pages. My instinct tells me the poor fellow is no longer with us and may have spent the last few years of his life "preaching" random Bible verses to anyone in the camps who would listen. So many homeless people end up like this, with a mixture of dementia and side-effects of long-term rec-drug use or very poor nutrition and hard street life.

I'm assuming he's deceased and say, "Rest in peace Marvin."

Looks like there are some potentially good leads already from members! I agree that with his stopping of cashing his checks that it is most likely he is deceased, and that looking for unidentified deceased persons in the area is the way to go.

I don't think demographics should be a limitation. He went to Florida from California, so it's possible he made some traveling decisions - being that his state of mind was not good at that time.

I agree he could, theoretically, have gone anywhere, especially if he stopped knowing who he was or if he decided to try to visit someone from his past.

Familysearch shows he lived in:

Wright, Minnesota (where he married in 1989)
Montrose, Minnesota
Eagle Point, Oregon
Trail, Oregon
Whittier, California
Buena Park, California

https://familysearch.org/search/rec..."~ +surname:Holderman~ +birth_year:1952-1952~

And those are just the locations that I can quickly tell are him for sure. There are also addresses attached to someone with his same or similar name in:

La Fontaine, Indiana
Joshua Tree, California
Running Springs, California
Buhl, Idaho (ETA: After some more searching I don't believe the Buhl ID is our Rusty-- there is another Marvin Holderman with the middle initial R who lived in Nebraska and Kansas and records show that middle initial in Buhl, ID as well).

Also of note, is that he used Rusty as a first name going back a long time. He is listed as Rusty Holderman in Montrose, Minnesota in 1993 and Eagle Point Oregon in 1994: https://familysearch.org/search/rec...y~ +surname:Holderman~ +birth_year:1952-1952~

I believe I found his high school yearbook photo on Ancestry.com

Fullerton, California

This gives us an idea of what his chin and jaw shape would look like without the beard (or skeletal).

I also found him in 1969 Yearbook for Sunny Hills High School, Fullerton, California. He went by Marv Holderman then. It's not as good quality of a pic but is more obviously him IMO (ETA: There is also a group football pic in the 1969 yearbook with his name listed but the names are alphabetical and I'm not sure I can pick out which one is him in the picture):

If he's still alive, he'd be all gray by now, right? 65 years old.

I found this YouTube video featuring an homeless old guy in Panama City. His eyes seem more round, but it's hard to say. He weaves a tale about his name being Pete from PA., murdered his father, mother died "last week" (how would he know that?), was married and had a son but lost track of them. Thoughts?

I've always heard redheads don't turn grey? They might get more streaks of white than grey. Here's a pic of an older man with red hair to show what I mean: https://theheartthrills.wordpress.com/tag/afghanistan/#jp-carousel-6554

IMO the homeless man in the video is not Rusty.

From the second link:

I have a whole line of redheads in my family. They all turn gray, but it's sort of flat looking (yellowy?) and not a nice silver now that you mention it. The guy in the video was probably very dark haired? Now that I'm examining it, there's seems to be a bit of black in his color mix. Darn it.

I would like to know where Marv hung out while in Kissimmee. It would be good to know what his patterns and habits were.

Yes I think Rusty's hair would turn more yellow-white than dark grey. Good looking out though.

Just to give a glimmer of hope that MLH is still alive somewhere, this article on a different man (not our MLH) reiterates your theory that a person can forget.

With the help of a cop and homeless shelter case manager, John Helinski, 62, discovered a forgotten bank account that has been collecting Social Security disability benefits for years, he told ABC News today.

Excellent finds and analysis.

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/34746/0/

He is a white male with reddish hair and has a mustache and beard. Nickname "Rusty"

Height in Inches: 70.-74
Weight: 160 to 240

Tattoo on right shoulder "Born to Raise Hell"
Tattoo on right arm of a panther
Tattoo on left arm of a peacock

He is a Vietnam Vet who had trouble adjusting and was self-medicating. However, he wasn't on the police radar at all. Didn't cause problems for law enforcement in Kissimmee.

His sister is looking for him and would like to bring him home.
Someone in the Kissimmee homeless community might still remember him because of his red hair. Was he homeless before living in Kissimmee?

I wonder if his sister has old pics of him showing his teeth?

What branch of military was he in? Who was Rusty, the man?

Here's a blog post by a student who interacted with a homeless man named Rusty who said he had been living in a tent in Asheville for 7 years: http://blogs.missouristate.edu/immersion/2017/03/16/1044/

It's a Missouri Blog and mentions Springfield so at first I thought she meant somewhere in MO but I could not find an Asheville, MO. The church she mentions is in Asheville, NC and has programs for the homeless: http://haywoodstreet.org/2013/07/respite/
Excellent find. Maybe you can contact her and found he out a little more about Rusty's looks and condition (since it was written only a few months ago)? Maybe she took a picture, or you can send her the namus link?

I prefer not to contact anyone myself, but it's a possible lead for the detective to follow up on (Or please feel free if anyone else wants to contact the blogger and ask questions). I'm browsing through pics of the homeless in Asheville and at that church to see if any look like Rusty, though.

For what its worth. We are a redheaded line as well going back at least 7+ generations. Of those I know or have photos - they don't turn gray. Its sorta lighter or yellower but you can definitely still tell that they were/are redheads. Except me...mine is really dark red/brown and I have some gray strands (until I pull them).
