GUILTY IA - Cecilia Harris, 20 mos, Dubuque, June 2010

Looks like she will be sitting in Jail to at least Oct 18th. Hopefully the lab results will be back before then and then charges can be upgraded to murder.

Since when does it take several months to id a body? When they have dna - clearly they can get this mothers dna......
Or is this poor reporting? Or am I misreading this? :banghead:

Snipped my me.

Cubby, had to laugh when I read this. Only in Iowa would it take this long, I knew when it was first reported that the remains needed to be sent to the lab for identification that it would take a long time. Like I said up thread she did not waive her right to a speedy trial for a reason. But now if you look at the court record there is a "Waiver of Speedy trial" that was filed on 8/16/2010 so who knows what is going on.

Child neglect trial set for Iowa woman

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - The child neglect trial of a Dubuque woman is now set for October while authorities still await lab results on apparent human remains discovered in her yard.

Tamelia Harris was arrested in June after police began searching for her 20-month-old daughter, Cecilia.

While trying to find the toddler, police found what they believe are the remains of a small child in Harris' yard. Authorities are awaiting lab results to identify the remains and provide clues about the cause and manner of death. The process could take several months.

Harris' trial on the neglect charge had been set for Aug. 30, but was delayed.

The Telegraph Herald reported Thursday that Harris' trial is now set for Oct. 18.

unbelievable. they STILL have not identified the remains?

if the authorities in Iowa are that backward that they don't have the basic tools to do DNA testing then maybe they should have sent the remains to a federal facility or a neighboring state's.

Looks like the DNA result finally came back from the lab.

According to the complaint filed in court charging Tamelia with first degree murder the results indicated that the remains were 9,95 trillion times more likely to be the biological offspring of Harris and Drummond as opposed to originating from an unrelated individual from the African American population.

I would say it is pretty hard to argue against the fact that Cecilia's remains have been found.

RIP - Cecilia.

So is she still charged with neglect or will they be dropping that??

R.I.P Cecilia :rose:

This, just like in Zahra's case... was completely preventable.

Her own father knew she was being abused.

Countless other people knew she was being abused.

They witnessed this woman call her names, get right in her face and swear at her, saw her with two black eyes and a swollen head, saw her attack food as if she had not eaten in days.

These people should be charged as well.

I swear if I ever saw these things happening to a child and didn't report it, the only other option would be that I would have to be dead. Because living with that knowledge and the thoughts would kill me.

"I wonder if that child now has a fractured skull with those black eyes and swollen head."

"I wonder how many days it's been since she has eaten?"

"I wonder where she sleeps? Inside, outside, in the basement, in the closet?"

"I wonder if she has ever been held and loved like a baby should?"

"I wonder if she is dead yet?"

The thoughts would torture me so fast I would tell cops. The one time I have witnessed such extreme child abuse, that is exactly what it did. The thought of that 3 year old child going home and having another cigarette burn or being called worthless one more time made me sick. It took me all of 5 minutes to physically find a cop and bring them to the child so the abuser couldn't leave with them.

I am the LEAST confrontational, most passive person on the planet. I will not stand up for myself unless it's a matter of life or death. I get along with everyone because I just won't disagree with them. I will not correct the waitress if they bring the wrong food. I don't get road rage if someone cuts me off.

But the ONE time I will speak up is when I see a child being abused. I make up for all the other times I am quiet when that happens.

I simply cannot comprehend just sitting there and watching this woman LEAVE with a child who has two black eyes, a swollen head, hasn't eaten in days and has just been verbally abused in front of you.

I can't imagine the woman being able to WALK when she left in the first place... much less leaving WITH the child.

I don't understand. :banghead:
