O/T of the girls, but some very happy news the other day. They found a 6-day old baby who had been kidnapped - ALIVE - and he had been outside in a plastic tote overnight. He is doing fine. GREAT NEWS! The aunt is in custody.

Off Topic - I know it is great news I was not expecting a good outcome like the Lisa Irwin case who is still missing. Little Kayden has a thread here marked found safe.

LE can't rush either an investigation nor an arrest.

To do so is risking another Casey debacle.

They don't give a toss about our feelings on the matter. Theyre not about to arrest anyone without an airtight case.<snipped for space>

While I agree with you, my comment earlier was about the 40 years it took to solve the other case. I really hope there's justice in this case a whole lot sooner than the year 2043-ish.

Another double tragedy with Iowa connection.

"The bodies of two sisters of an Iowa politician have been found shot in the basement of their Pittsburgh home, local media reported on Sunday.

Susan 44, and Sarah Wolfe, 38, were found slain on Friday afternoon in a home they shared, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, citing local police."

Some the details are coming out in Daniel More combes case as the trial started this week.

The undercover op that finally caught the perp was something else.

They planted a friendly guy on a plane ride - an undercover officer.

God knows what they spoke about but the perp introduced the uc to a bunch of his "friends".

Friends who were also undercover officers!

The mind boggles - Queensland LE seem to have manufactured an entire social circle around the perp! How long must that have taken, to win his trust like that!?

Here I am burbling about uc's as jail mates....this takes Undercover to entirely new levels!

And its only Day 2! God knows what else LE got up to over the 8 year investigation!

I think that's AWESOME!
I will say however, that I just don't see LE here doing that. JMO of course :blushing:...they may step it up and surprise me with something great like that - but I have never heard of anything remotely that articulated happening in any cases around here.
They got lucky with Evelyn Miller's case in that Casey ran his mouth...but that to me was dumb luck...not a plot of any sort by LE.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, when it comes to LE. My grandfather was murdered when I was 4 and that case was SO completely corrupt I have very little faith in LE overall. :(

I have a lot of respect for LE and think they work very hard in all aspects of their job. But I can't have blind faith that in every unsolved case there is a big covert operation going on and they are just waiting for the perfect moment to sweep in and arrest someone for murder.

I'm glad that in Daniel's case there was an arrest after 8 long, painful years for his family while the perp lived his free life. But it's not typical or common.

Yeah, I don't have as much confidence as some posters and it's not because I don't respect LE. Sometimes things just don't work out. I'm not sure if that's what happened here. I'm trying to keep an open mind. But it reminds me, and I fear, this is similar to the Misty Copsey case.

Here's Misty's thread. In the first post there is a link to a five part article. If you are so inclined it is a good read, but very long. But it illustrates how investigations can go awry.

Yes the DM op is awesome...and maybe it can't happen in the US which is a shame.

The important part of my post however is -

We just don't know what LE are up to but when there's resounding silence, it seems likely they are up to something.

Don't forget you've got the FBI in on this, as well as State and local LE.

The brazen taking and murder of two girls is "heinous" far more so than one person turning up dead.

The important part seems to be the determination of the investigators.

Most are like a dog with a bone - they just won't quit. We've seen unbelievable personal sacrifice in Daniels op. Becoming BFF's with a child murderer must've made them sick, let alone the officers stuck in jail with the perp for months on end.

Important also that they knew their perp from 14 days after the crime but it took 8 years and this massive undercover op before they had PROOF.

I hope I'm right. I suspect I am so keep the faith...also keep an eye on Daniels case to hear more mind boggling details of the investigation...!

A little OT, but if you have been following the sisters Sheila and Katherine Lyon that vanished almost 4 decades ago:

The Montgomery County Police Department Cold Case Squad and FBI agents in the Baltimore Division have named a person of interest in the disappearance of sisters Sheila and Katherine Lyon from a popular suburban Washington, D.C. shopping center in 1975. Investigators say Lloyd Lee Welch, (date of birth December 30, 1956), aka Michael Welch, pictured below, was noticed paying attention to the sisters the afternoon they disappeared.

Thank you for posting this link Foxfire.... definitely reads shades of Elizabeth and Lyric to me.

Another link here to the story: http://news.msn.com/crime-justice/likely-breakthrough-in-1975-maryland-sisters-case

Police identified 57-year-old Lloyd Lee Welch as a person of interest. Police said they are not ready to charge him but are seeking the public's help to gather more information.

WASHINGTON — It's been nearly 40 years since sisters Sheila and Katherine Lyon paid a weekday visit to a Maryland shopping mall — and never returned home.

The chilling 1975 disappearance of the girls, ages 12 and 10, set off an extensive search for potential suspects, caused panic in the region and has flummoxed police investigators for decades. On Tuesday, police in Montgomery County, Md. announced a breakthrough in the case, saying they had identified a new person of interest — a convicted child sex offender in a Delaware prison.

JC plead guilty to the federal charge. So I wonder where he is now? Surely not released, pending sentencing??

http://wcfcourier.com/news/local/cr...cle_1ce8d5f8-97d9-5f92-a42d-25fa3687daaf.html

WOW! A 9mm gun! Have to wonder whom he was so angry with to become involved in a road rage incident?? I believe I saw him on film at the last ceremony at Meyers Lake with Misty, Tammy and Wylma separate from Drew and Heather's appearance. First time I had seen him and only knew of him since the "heart" problem for which he was hospitalized several days after the girls' disappearance. He displayed what I would describe a bit of odd behavior at that ceremony, but perhaps odd is his normal. I know I certainly march to the beat of a different drum. . . :drumroll:

This is sad:

Popular pastor takes his own life in Dunkerton

For the life of me, I remember something about Dunkerton, but I can't recall what it might have had to do with Elizabeth and Lyric's case.

The popular leader of the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton took his own life this morning, stunning members of the congregation and many in the wider community.

The Rev. Tommy Rucker -- known affectionately as Pastor Tommy -- died after inflicting a gunshot wound, according to Police Chief Tim Schultz.

http://wcfcourier.com/news/local/po...cle_47538534-443f-50eb-a849-1530c80728fe.html

"Rucker joined the church in January 2007. He participated in a deacons' meeting Tuesday night, according to Dick Ede, a member of the congregation and church treasurer."

"Ede got word of Rucker's death from Police Chief Schultz while in Waterloo. Ede said he had trouble comprehending the news."

"Rucker and church volunteers led a program each Wednesday evening called the Awana Club for children in kindergarten through sixth grades.

The church-related activities routinely attract several dozen children representing several Christian denominations. Church officials canceled tonight's Awana gathering."

This is kind of creepy:

"Man who was deported 8 times arrested for re-entry"

:what:

"A man deported eight times is charged with immigration violations after his arrest in Waterloo for alleged drug-related offenses.

Jose William Lopez-Martinez, 31, a citizen of Honduras, had been order out of the country as far back as April 2000. He was last removed from the United States on Aug. 2, 2012, according to court records.

Lopez-Martinez was convicted of illegal re-entry in April and December 2011. Court records show both times he allegedly waded across the Rio Grande River from Mexico into Texas."

http://wcfcourier.com/news/local/cr...cle_e81258aa-c23e-5765-8bc8-9885459f373c.html

I hope LE knows the whereabouts of this illegal immigrant on July 13, 2012. Surely they would know if he could have been smoking a joint in a secluded area at Meyers Lake!! Of course, if he waded across the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas, how did he end up in Waterloo, Iowa? :banghead:

IIRC there was a search in the Dunkerton area, also a "witness" that lived there or near there.

This is the 2nd suicide in that area since the girls went missing. At least the 2nd one that's been mentioned on these threads.

Yes, earlier, right before the girls were found. Are we thinking about the same one where the man stepped in front of a train? Or the Radiologist who killed himself and his girlfriend (her parents knew Elizabeth and lived close to Meyers Lake)?

Somewhere in this past year I read of the most deported illegal in AZ & he had been deported and re-entered 26 times. Might have been a Sheriff Joe fact.
