IN - Alejandra Gutierrez, 10, Fort Wayne, 8 Dec 2005

Police are asking northeastern Indiana residents to search their properties for signs of a girl missing since last week, while her father's co-workers are hand-delivering fliers with information about her.

Police Chief Rusty York wants people to inspect their homes, outside buildings and properties, focusing on secluded areas where a 10-year-old might hide or be hidden. He also said the possibility of a kidnapper in the city is a concern.
"Instead of just us, we'd have more than 250,000 people looking," York said Wednesday.

Tevon Reed, operations manager at United's manufacturing plant, said employees began distributing fliers Tuesday. He said the company's truck drivers, who make deliveries in other parts of Indiana plus Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio, were given fliers as well.
Workers also were raising money to offer a reward to anyone who provides information leading to her discovery.

Detectives have been following up on all leads and tips. City detectives, with the help of FBI agents, have been questioning every known sex offender in the Fort Wayne area, York said.
Ground and aerial searches of Alejandra's neighborhood will continue through at least today. Investigators will then consider their next step.

A candlelight and prayer vigil will be conducted tonight for 10-year-old Alejandra Gutierrez, who has been missing since Dec. 8.
United Hispanic-Americans Inc. and the American Baptist Church of Indiana are partnering to conduct the vigil, which begins at 6 p.m. Participants will gather at Alejandra’s house at South Clinton Street and Branning Avenue before walking to the bus stop where Alejandra would have gotten on a school bus the day she disappeared.
A former FBI agent, Bob Scigalski, who is helping Fort Wayne police as a member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said the non-profit organization is preparing 50,000 new fliers about Alejandra that will be mailed Wednesday or Thursday. The U.S. Postal Service will help with this mailing, he said.
Alejandra’s family, meanwhile, stayed together at their home most of the day to keep their spirits up, Alejandra’s older brother, Jose Gutierrez Jr., said.
That’s difficult because the family was supposed to be in Guanajuato, Mexico, today to attend the wedding of Alejandra’s 23-year-old sister, Martha.
Martha Gutierrez was looking forward to seeing her little sister. Now, without Alejandra and the rest of the family, the wedding will be only a Mass at a church, and the reception is canceled, Jose Gutierrez Jr. said. The family had been planning to stay in Mexico for Christmas, he said, and Alejandra was supposed to be back in Fort Wayne by early January.

Yellow flames lit the way for several hundred people Saturday as they silently marked Alejandra Gutierrez’s path to her school bus stop during a prayer vigil for her safe return.
The group gathered in front of her family’s home about 6 p.m. for prayer in English and Spanish before walking the long block to the bus stop at the corner of South Calhoun Street and Branning Avenue. Some held small candles, others held children, while others held hands.
Quietly, the large group amassed near the street sign and sang and prayed again for Alejandra – “Fort Wayne’s daughter,” as the Rev. Jaime Flores called her.

Sounds like it was a beautiful and moving vigil for Alejandra. So well written, I feel like I was there, and wishing I could have been.

This little girl disappeared just blocks from where my boyfriend lives -- I was there yesterday and we talked about it. The police are searching cars, houses. And my boyfriend was like, "They're looking for a dead body, aren't they? They don't expect to find a live girl in one of the cars." I'm afraid he's right. Sigh. I fear for her.

It is too much of a coincidence for this girl to go missing and then he kills his family,I wonder if his wife or daughter saw something and threatened too tell.:banghead: I hope they can get him too confess where she is if he did it

Ft. Wayne TV is reporting that he confessed to killing her and told them where to find her body, which they did, in a gravel pit. God bless her family.

Police have made a break in the case of a missing girl from Fort Wayne.

Late Monday afternoon, police confirmed they found a body they believe to be that of ten-year-old Alejandra Gutierrez.

Now the Delaware County sheriff is confirming the body of a girl was found in a wooded area near a gravel pit in northeastern Delaware County.

Police say they are focused on a suspect already in custody. Sources close to the case tell 24-Hour News 8 the suspect is Simon Rios, a father who admitted he killed his wife and three children last week.

A prosecutor says a man accused of killing his family helped lead police to the site where police found a body they believe to be a missing Fort Wayne girl.

Delaware County Deputy Prosecutor Mark McKinney told The Star Press of Muncie that police went to the site based on information provided by Simon Rios, who is being held in the Dec. 13 killings of his wife and three children.

For her family's sake I'm glad that this little girl has been found. At least they won't have to wonder where she is now and they can have a service for her.
To sad though that this was the ending to this story. This is happening over and over again and it just needs to stop.

I wonder if that man ended up killing his family because of what he did to this little girl? I wonder if his wife found out what he did and that led to the slaughter of her and the children. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm so glad that this killer is already in jail. It's hard to believe that this man came with his wife to bring a gift to this little girl's family when she went missing. Talk about a sociopath to be able to look at that family and their grief and know that he caused it yet he is at their door to try and ease their pain. Hard to believe. He will no doubt get the death penalty....if not I sure will want to know why not.

Suspect visited parents of missing girl

ALBANY, Ind. -- Simon Rios visited the parents of a missing girl four days after she vanished from their Fort Wayne neighborhood and offered to help in the search.

Investigators now believe Rios, 33, killed 10-year-old Alejandra Gutierrez days before he murdered his own wife and three children.

Searchers on Monday found a body investigators believed was Alejandra covered by snow in a wooded area near a gravel pit northeast of Muncie after spending several hours over two days in single-digit temperatures checking nearby areas.
"We wanted to make sure we got this little girl back to her family," Delaware County Sheriff George Sheridan said.

Searchers following a tip from a man jailed for allegedly killing his wife and three young daughters have found a frozen body believed to be that of a 10-year-old girl last seen heading to a school bus stop earlier this month.

Police found the body Monday in a wooded area 50 miles from the Fort Wayne neighborhood where Alejandra Gutierrez disappeared Dec. 8, Delaware County Sheriff George Sheridan said. The body appeared to be that of a child who had been strangled, authorities said, and investigators were working to determine if it was Gutierrez.

Delaware County Deputy Prosecutor Mark McKinney said the area was searched based on details given by Simon Rios, who is now considered a suspect in Gutierrez's abduction and slaying. A 17-year-old juvenile in custody in Allen County also is considered a suspect, authorities said.

Rios pleaded not guilty last week to four counts of murder and two counts of illegally moving a body.

What is the charge for 'two counts of illegally moving a body' about?

Myst, I believe he moved his wife and one of the kids bodies to the bedroom. After he killed them, of course, that charge has come up in a few cases lately. I think it is a way to stack on charges.

Frozen Body May Be Missing Indiana Girl

ALBANY, Ind. (AP) - Searchers following a tip from a man jailed for allegedly killing his wife and three young daughters have found a frozen body believed to be that of a 10-year-old girl last seen heading to a school bus stop earlier this month.

Rios is being held in the Dec. 13 killings of his wife and three children. Authorities say Rios told investigators he beat and strangled his wife and killed their three children after the couple argued about him doing household chores.

What I haven't been able to figure out or find in any reports is when exactly he killed his wife and children? I keep seeing it stated when the bodies were found and one story had run something about him moving the bodies but I was sure one was to a shed? I think the reason I even thought of it was because of the impression I got from the wording media used to report it. When I first read about the mother and children being killed I thought it had been discovered very close to the time of the crime.

http://www.indianasnewscenter.com/images/323.jpg Dec 20, 2005 - (Fort Wayne) -- The Fort Wayne man who has emerged as the chief suspect in the disappearance of 10-year-old Alejandra Gutierrez was arraigned Tuesday in the killings of his wife and three children.

Simon Rios, 33, barely lifted his eyes as he trudged in leg irons to his initial hearing in felony court. Two public defenders have been appointed to represent Rios, who's been charged with four counts of murder and two counts of illegally moving a body.

The judge informed Rios through an interpreter at the hearing he has the right to contact the Mexican consulate in Chicago while he's under arrest.

Police say he readily confessed to striking his wife, Ana Casas, with a pipe during a heated argument, then strangling her and his three children. According to court records, Rios summoned police to his home on South Calhoun Street December 13 and showed them where to find the bodies of his family. Though he's apparently confessed to his involvement in the Gutierrez crime, it's not clear if he killed his wife and kids because they found out what he'd done**************SNIP*****************

It could be at least Thursday before officials confirm whether a child's body found Monday is that of Alejandra Gutierrez, who disappeared Dec. 8 after leaving home for her school bus stop in Fort Wayne, said officials at the Delaware County coroner's office. Searchers found the body near a gravel pit in rural Delaware County about 50 miles south of where Alejandra disappeared.
"Everyone was hoping she'd be alive -- everyone had hope. But after this long you start to lose it," said Darryl Morrison, who lives near the Gutierrez family.
Delaware County Deputy Prosecutor Mark McKinney said authorities searched the site where the body was found based on details given by Simon Rios, who appeared in Allen Superior Court on Tuesday to face murder charges in the Dec. 13 deaths of his wife, Ana Casas, and the couple's three young daughters.
McKinney said Rios is considered a suspect in Alejandra's abduction and slaying. A 17-year-old juvenile in custody in Allen County also is believed to have been involved, authorities said.88*********************SNIP******
