question: is LE possibly discriminating against him because he met a "guy" online? just saying... we ALL KNOW it is the ELEPHANT in the room. and it SHOULDN'T BE! MOO
on this topic I have this to say - kudos to the family for putting it out there. at least we know he was hooking up with a man. since they put it out there, LE knew exactly where to go and who to ask questions of.
it is possible that local LE was not taking this seriously because they did not like the subject matter and if that's the case shame on them. all citizens deserve to be treated the same when it comes to police protection. recall that it was the Carmel, IN police who subpoenaed the cell phone records and not the authorities in KY. so something is going on with the locals that is disturbing to me.
as with anyone, they need something to obtain a search warrant. it is not enough that a person was last known to be in your home. I would think the lack of cell phone activity after he was picked up should be enough, but that is not for me to say.
