Laura Babcock Murder Trial 10.31.17 - Day 7

On their third and final visit, Dean met Babcock at a hotel on Queen Street and Roncesvalles.

She had her little dog with her.

"

Like the TB trial, times and dates are confusing. But from this we know his last visit was before she dropped off the dog at the end of June.

Dean tells the jury members that Babcock, on this second meeting at his apartment, spent a significant time in the bathroom. When she came out, she had a nosebleed.

He says he's not qualified to comment on drug use and he himself is not a drug user.

Dean says Babcock spent the night, she slept on the couch.

"She had nowhere to go." They didn't connect this time through the escort service and he did not pay her. On the first visit, he gave her about $200.

They parted ways the next morning, Babcock left with her suitcase. Though he called a Best Western hotel, he did not give her money to pay for it.

Nose bleed isn't a good sign... Don't have to be a drug user to know that..

Looks like Marianne Boucher also is not tweeting today.. maybe Halloween takes priority?

Does that leave us with only Shannon Martin? And I guess ABro will be tweeting up to the end of this week?

ABro is tweeting today. I do think that leaves us with Shannon on the MSM end of things.

While we wait, just a note about the testimony we've heard so far today.

Bradley Dean is the third person jury members have heard from who knew Babcock through escorting. The other was a film/tv producer, another a doctor.

All testified that Babcock was intelligent and fun, and also open about her struggles on finding a permanent place to stay and work. With two of the men, she was honest about her mental health struggles.

All of the men said they did not sleep with Babcock, but they did pay her. The film producer let her stay at his place for two weeks, the doctor offered to help pay for an apartment - though that never materialized. He, and everyone else, stopped hearing from Babcock at the end of June/ early July.

Court has also heard Babcock was new to escorting. Her friends said she started doing it a couple months before she disappeared. Megan Orr, who testified Monday, said Babcock wasn't ashamed about the work. She liked the attention, and said it was a way to make extra money

The jury is back and Dellen Millard is now at the podium for cross examination.

He's asking Bradley Dean about a woman he met at a bar at Hemingways. Dean thought it may have been Babcock, but then later realized it wasn't.

"I'm single and dating. I've met a number of girls there," he said.

In his police statement, Dean said he met the woman (he originally thought was Babcock) at Hemingways on July 10 - which is likely why Millard is focusing on this.

In opening statements, the Crown said Babcock's alleged murder at the hands of Millard and Smich was early July, around July 3.

I don't think the producer knew her through escorting. He just met her in a bar and felt sorry for her, gave her a place to stay.

Dean says he was mistaken. It wasn't Babcock on July 10. "I'm single and dating. I've met a number of girls there," he said.

LB received the IPad from SL June 2012.
Baffled why there is never no mention of LB using it or her having the IPad in her possession.

I imagine there will be days of testimony focussing on the iPad. Patience.

Millard shows the court a photo of him, next to a helicopter, and there's a suitcase he's bent over. It's small, not easy to see.

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV
Millard asks, "Is that me?" Dean said it could be. Millard takes off his glasses, "How about now?" Dean again, "could be."

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV
Millard responds, "well that's not the point, let's look at the suitcase."

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV
Millard trying to get Dean to confirm the suitcase in the picture was the same one Babcock had. Dean says, "I'm not a luggage expert."

Millard moves on. Now takes Dean back to his police statement.

Shannon Martin‏ @ShannonMartinTV
Millard "Are you being truthful with us?"
Dean "Absolutely."
Millard "Were you truthful in your police statements?"
Dean "Absolutely."

Millard reads Dean part of his police statement. He told police he did not give Babcock any money. But he's testified today that he did, about $200.

Millard, "What's the truth?"

Dean says at the part of the police statement Millard is pointing to, is the second and third visits he had with Babcock, when he did not pay her. Dean says earlier in the statement he tells police about giving Babcock money on their first visit.

Millard asks about Dean's divorce, his concern for custody of his daughter.

Dean says all divorces are messy and there was never concern about custody.

Millard points out in his second statement to police, Dean said he met Babcock twice. Dean agrees he said that in the second statement.

Justice Michael Code says Dean omitted to tell police about the brief, ten-minute visit (the third visit, at the hotel where Babcock was staying towards the end of June). Dean agrees with the judge.

In his third statement to police, Dean told them about all three meetings.

Millard continues to try and point out consistencies between what Dean told police four years ago, and his testimony today. Dean remains calm, doesn't appear to be fazed.

Millard now plays a video clip of Shawn Lerner's interview with police.

Lerner recounts the phone conversation he had with Bradley Dean.

Lerner, from his own investigations trying to find Babcock and reach out to her family, friends, and escort clients, concludes with police that Dean is the last person to have contact with Babcock.

Millard presses Dean about the fact that he thought he saw Babcock - or Elle, as he knew her - on July 10 at Hemingways. Dean once again stands by his earlier testimony that he was mistaken. He did not see Babcock then. That was another date, with another woman.
