Lerner, from his own investigations trying to find Babcock and reach out to her family, friends, and escort clients, concludes with police that Dean is the last person to have contact with Babcock.

Millard presses Dean about the fact that he thought he saw Babcock - or Elle, as he knew her - on July 10 at Hemingways. Dean once again stands by his earlier testimony that he was mistaken. He did not see Babcock then. That was another date, with another woman.

DM really trying to cause doubt that LB was seen as late as July10..... good luck with that... glad this witness is credible.

DM grasping at straws.... an interview 4 years ago is not easy to remember. I remember giving a statement to police and not being able to remember what I said just 9 months later.

LE had all these statements for 4 years, and were still able to get a straight to indictment charge. DM needs to work very hard to confuse the jury. Because once the forensic evidence starts rolling out, it will be a 180 like the TB trial. IMO

Millard alleges Dean changed his story when talking to police, to protect himself.

Dean says that's not true.

Millard now suggests that Dean saw the suitcase after July 4, when he met Babcock at Hemingways. Dean says that's not true.

Earlier Dean said he was "not a luggage expert."

Millard, "This trial is pretty serious business. Do you want to change any of your evidence?" At this point, there's an audible scoff from the public gallery.

Dean said he does not.

Millard concludes his questioning.

Mark Smich's lawyer Thomas Dungey has no questions.

I don't think the producer knew her through escorting. He just met her in a bar and felt sorry for her, gave her a place to stay.

He said that, but it might not be exactly accurate. Yesterday, Laura's friend MO testified that Laura met him through an escort service and not a bar.

I don't think any of these guys she met through the escort service have admitted to sleeping with Laura - I guess they have family and friends who are reading all this too.

That same friend said that LB and the producer were romantically involved, while the producer denied that was the case.

We are breaking for 20 minutes.

It will be interesting if forensic evidence has anything to make those white lies (if they are) look nefarious. Or the forensic evidence will be a itinerary of DM's and MS's mission in July of 2012?

So what does DM know about the suitcase....that it's gone, gone, gone??

Crown Jill Cameron calls the next witness, a pastry chef named Jessica Trevors.

Crown Jill Cameron calls the next witness, a pastry chef named Jessica Trevors.

She's 29, and lived in Toronto but now lives outside of the city.

She was outside on her front step, and saw a girl get out of a cab with a little white dog and a pile of luggage.

Trevors approached the girl - who turned out to be Laura Babcock - after ten or 15 minutes, and Babcock told her she had no place to stay.

Yeah I'm having trouble understanding where the suitcase thread is going...
Does DM perhaps have evidence of it being in someone else's possession? But...

Then what was with the pic of him with the suitcase? What does that prove besides him having it at some point...? Where was he going with that questioning?

"I didn't want her to sleep on the street," Trevors said, so she invited Babcock to stay at her apartment.

It was the end of June in 2012.

Babcock told her she'd come upstairs and charge her phone, and then call a friend to pick her up. She didn't want to impose.

Shannon Martin
A man showed up a few hours later, and Trevors said, "I was uncomfortable with the way he was talking to her."

He told her to "get her *advertiser censored**ing s*** and get in the car."

Trevors said he was very rude, so she insisted Babcock stay with her.

He was tall, 6 foot, scruffy looking. It's neither Millard or Smich, the Crown points out.

Intrigued what DM knows about the purpose of this suitcase and what the final destination for it was. Was it DM selling drugs through LB? (speculation)

Trevors went to bed, she assumed Babcock had too.

When she woke up, Babcock had cleaned her entire apartment.

"She said she wanted to show me she was thankful."

Shannon Martin
They spent the day together, they went for food.

Trevors said Babcock "was very bubbly, she was in a good mood considering what she was going through."

She went to work, and Babcock continued to stay at her apartment.

Shannon Martin
Babcock stayed with Trevors for four days.

Trevors said Babcock mentioned she was an escort, which Trevors said she was "fine with."
A friend came over to Trevors' apartment, and Babcock again mentioned escorting and said Trevors should join her.

Trevors friend became uncomfortable and said it was time for Babcock to leave, which Trevors agreed with.

Babcock was very upset, the witness said, "She stomped around a lot."

Eventually she agreed to go, and Trevors drove her to a home in Etobicoke.

Shannon Martin
Trevors said she took Babcock to her parents home in Etobicoke.

"I felt comfortable taking her there, because that's where I would want to go."
