Police: 8 Stabbed, Suspect Dead In St. Cloud Mall Incident

A St. Cloud mall was on lockdown for several hours Saturday night after a suspect stabbed eight people, according to police.

It happened just after 8 p.m. There were eight victims with stab wounds, police said. Seven were treated and released and one remains in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said the suspect, dressed in a private security uniform, made a reference to Allah and asked one victim if they were Muslim.

An off-duty police officer from another jurisdiction confronted the suspect and fatally shot him, police said.

Minnesota Mall Terrorist Was Just Identified… Media Censoring This HUGE Detail

His name was Dahir Adan, a Somalian immigrant, reportedly a “refugee” to the U.S. He injured 10 people while yelling “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is greater” in Arabic) before being killed by an off-duty police officer. Adan asked several shoppers if they were Muslims, and if they answered “no” they were stabbed.

Like some kind of crazed zombie, he was shot three times, fell, and got up to attack, only to be shot again.

ISIS had claimed responsibility!!!!

Islamic State says Minnesota mall attacker was its soldier; his father IDs slain man as college student

Authorities didn't identify the attacker, but the Star Tribune of Minneapolis said the man's father identified him as Dahir A. Adan, 22, a student at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. Speaking to the newspaper through an interpreter, Ahmed Adan, whose family is Somali, said his son was born in Africa and had lived in the U.S. for 15 years.

He said police told him at about 9 p.m. Saturday that his son had died at the mall and that police had raided the family's apartment, seizing photos and other materials. He said police said nothing to him about the mall attack and that he had "no suspicion" that his son had been involved in terrorist activity, the newspaper reported.

FBI seeks confirmation that St. Cloud attacker was pledged to ISIL

ISIL’s claim, a little more than 12 hours after Dahir A. Adan, 22, carried out his attack, mirrors the group’s response to killings in San Bernardino late last year and a more recent spate of terrorism in Europe, according to counterterrorism analyst Thomas Joscelyn.

“When they claim responsibility for an attack in the West there’s usually something more to it,” said Joscelyn, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

A firm link to the terror organization — such as a prerecorded pledge to ISIL’s leader sent to the group or posted online — is still being sought by authorities. FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard Thornton told reporters Sunday that while the stabbings were being investigated as a “potential act of terrorism,” the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force still needs to comb evidence such as Adan’s social media history and his contacts. Authorities have not publicly identified Adan.

“We’re trying to peel back the onion to figure out what motivated this individual to do what he did last night,” Thornton said.

Oye Vi

Just what we need a terrorist on bath salts !!

Switzerland save me a place!

Authorities release the name of the company DA worked for:

The suspect was identified by community leaders as Dahir Aden, a student at St. Cloud State University and a private security guard at Electrolux, a home appliance store located near the mall. Abdul Kulane, of the Central Minnesota Community Empowerment Organization, said he was contacted by Aden’s parents, who did not know what their son’s motive was for the attack.

Aden moved to the United States from Kenya at age 2, Kulane said. He grew up in St. Cloud and graduated from Apollo High School. His parents described him as smart, quiet, and interested in soccer. Kulane said he does not believe Aden has taken any recent trips overseas, and his family and his community are in shock.

A background check performed by Valley News Live shows reported attacker Dahir Adan and his family previously lived in Fargo before moving to Saint Cloud. It's unclear if his family settled here on their own or where resettled through an agency such as Lutheran Social Services.

In recent years, federal investigators have tracked in Minnesota the recruitment of potential ISIS fighters. Since 2014, nine Somali-Americans from Minnesota were either convicted at trial or pleaded guilty in a plot to join ISIS by traveling to Syria. Before that, dozens of male Minnesota residents had left to join Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group working to turn Somalia into an Islamist state.

KZ note- many refugees from Somalia were in refugee camps in Kenya back when the church groups were importing Somali refugees to MN 20 years ago (during the somali civil war), so that may explain why he is Somali, and born in Kenya. He may have been born to somali parents in a refugee camp in Kenya. That seems a likely explanation, IMO. MN has the largest Somali population outside of Somalia, because church groups in the 90's sponsored tens of thousands of somalis here. This population has had a lot of struggles assimilating, and the Somali population has had many problems with young men becoming radicalized. A group of 9 young somali men convicted of terrorism charges is awaiting sentencing in Minneapolis, and we have a bunch of "anti-terrorism" programs.

Local headlines from 2 days ago:
"Rooting out Jihad from within"- the somali population.

http://www.startribune.com/minnesot...t-out-homegrown-terror-from-within/393770321/

Church groups have sponsored Hmong in the past. There are Hmong people now in political positions. There are Somali police officers and Somali people running for office. So, there are different levels of assimilation.

Both Hmong and Somali people came out of hellish situations. It will take time to overcome the different kinds of trauma they suffered.

Hopefully there will be an answer as to what caused the breakdown of this seemingly successful guy

There is no comparison between Hmong and Somali refugee populations. There have been no Hmong terrorists. In general, the Hmong are extremely hard working entrepreneuers, and are assimilating well, as a group.

The Somali population has been uniquely *unsuccessful* among refugee groups in assimilating in MN, and even far left leaning organizations such as the Star Tribune have had to face the very serious and pervasive problem of islamic radicalization in this population. The federal government, itself left leaning for 8 years, has a number of "anti-terrorism" initiatives in place specifically designed for the Somali population in MN. It is intellectually dishonest, and disingenuous, to pretend that there is not a tremendous problem of clan "warfare" and radicalization in this population, among their many other social difficulties.

I do not want to disparage the Hmong who were promised that they would be taken care of by the US govt because they put their whole lives and the ability to stay in their country by helping the US in the Vietnam War. They languished in refugee camps for years and suffered horrifying atrocities.

Perhaps you are too young to remember all of the gang issues. But these were overcome over the years. There were no terrorist groups calling them to come back, The Somalis will also overcome. It will take awhile. There are a lot of success stories and they will continue. Hooefully, there are interventions for trauma. The U used to have a center from victims of trauma. I wonder if it still does.

We know trauma is devastating. Look at the suicide rates of vets. Too many people in need of therapy and not enough resources to intervene. We bumble along and people pay the price

Yes, the story is complicated and any comparisons need to be carefully thought out - there are many differences as well as similarities. I worked with Hmong refugees in Minneapolis many years ago. (I am no longer in that area.)

Me too. They paid a heavy price in so many ways helping the US. But they are moving ahead inspite of so many barriers. The Somalis will as well. Remember when Hmong people were killed simply because they were hunting in MN? So many issues . Hopefully prejudice will not reign when looking a the Somali people who came from horror

FBI: MN Stabbings "Potential Act of Terror

http://go.cnn.com/?stream=cnn&sr=watchHPbutton

I am offended that our president and the FBI continue to call this a "POTENTIAL act of terror" WTH?

When are we going to start believing the own words out of the terrorist mouth. When an attacker screams out Allah and starts to selectively pick their victims by whether they are muslim or not, is that not common sense enough to quit saying it is a potential act of terror?

How about just calling it what it is. And how about just believing the attacker when he tells you himself why he is doing what he is doing. Good Grief.

I dont get it at all and never will. People are more outraged with officials putting their heads in the sand and pretending this is not a case of terrorism than they would be if they just admitted what the attacker told them.
So what ? He is just another terrorist just like many others before him and just like the bomber in NYC.

They choose to hate america and choose to start killing and maiming americans even though America gave them all the chances and opportunities they would ever need to be successful and have a good life with freedoms. Things they would NEVER get in any other counry. And just because these idiots like the attacker have not been successful and have not made something out of their life they choose to be lazy SOBs and decide to maim or kill other innocent people.

And our officials will pretend this is something else and say "Oh the reason is still unknown why he did what he did. We are still investigating his motive". Really? When 90% of all people in the US already know exactly why he did what he did.

How about getting a grip on reality and realize these SOBs are stabbing you in the back.
Wake up and call it what it is. The world wont end when you do and you may just end up doing better to prevent the next terrorist if you quit thinking there is some mystery alterior motive of these SOBs.

"Police and witnesses said the man, wearing a private security company uniform, entered Crossroads Mall on Saturday night around 8 p.m. CT, made a reference to Allah and asked at least one person if they were Muslim before he attacked."

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/18/us/minnesota-mall-stabbing/

The fact remains that Dahir Adan is too young to have been traumatized by life in a refugee camp, or in Somalia. He spent his entire life from the age of 2, in the American midwest-- Fargo and St. Cloud. PTSD is not passed on from adults to their offspring. The trauma of one's parents, or homeland, is simply not any kind of justification for taking a knife to a shopping mall and terrorizing and stabbing shoppers, while shouting about allah and asking them if they are muslims.

That is clearly criminal terrorism--there is just no reasonable or logical way to spin that into some poor lad with "trauma".

Not only that, it appears that the security guard uniform he was wearing may have been to lull his victims into coming closer, or persuade them into thinking he was not a danger to them. Why else would he be wearing a security guard uniform from a job that ended THREE months ago, while he entered the mall intending to stab a bunch of people??

Adan was an employee of the security firm Securitas and was assigned for a few months to an Electrolux facility; that assignment ended in June, Electrolux spokeswoman Eloise Hale said.

And he was majoring at school in a computer related field, so all of his electronic communications and devices will be scoured thoroughly for any evidence he was watching ISIS inspirational videos, or communicating with ISIS sympathizers.

The St. Cloud Times reported that Somali-American community members in St. Cloud identified the suspect as Dahir Adan, who worked part-time as a private security officer. The 22-year-old was also a student at St. Cloud State University and intended to major in information systems — a computer-related field.

A spokesman for St. Cloud State University confirmed that Adan was a student majoring in information systems, but hadn't been enrolled since the spring semester.

BBM. He wasn't in school at present-- did not enroll for summer or fall sessions.

Also-- a discrepancy I've noticed. Some articles quote his father (thru an interpreter) as saying DA came to the U.S. at age 2. Others say DA had been in the U.S. "15 years". So it's not entirely clear if he was 2 years old, or seven years old, when he came to the U.S. midwest.

Authorities haven't identified the attacker, but his father, Ahmed Adan, told the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune his son's name through an interpreter and local activists also identified Dahir Adan as Somali.

Ahmed Adan said his son was born in Kenya but was Somali and had lived in the U.S. for 15 years.

By the way, money for college would likely not have been a problem causing DA to drop out. There are MANY programs to provide free tuition to immigrants in the state system. So, IMO, if he dropped out of college, it wasn't because he couldn't afford tuition to the St. Cloud technical school he was enrolled in.

Just one example of college money for immigrants (and illegal ones, at that):

So now we know DA was not working, and was not in school. Seems maybe he had a lot of time on his hands to plan out this attack. A lot of time to get worked up and excited about his "cause", which is pretty clearly associated with islamic extremism, IMO. Why else would he be shouting about allah and asking victims if they're muslim??

It matters not a bit to me if he self radicalized, or was "connected" to other islamic radicals-- he is still a radical islamic terrorist, IMO. But if he was "connected", I hope the FBI and other agencies figure this out very quickly.

It's a great relief that none of his victims died. Thankfully, he didn't have a gun, but I'm sure glad that the well trained, and heroic Officer Jason Falconer was there with his gun. One of the victims was just 15 years old, a girl. I worry about her trauma from this terrible attack.

I pray for all the victims of the stabbing.

Being stabbed has got to be very painful and traumatic with long healing times both emotionally and physically.

What an awful thing for someone to pick up a knife and start stabbing innocent people. :(
