Greywind's mother suspected Crews had done something with Savanna since the beginning. Mother and sister are asking the judge for the maximum sentence.

"Fell and hit her head." Yeah, okay, uh huh... :liar:

Right!

JUST IN: Brooke Crews sentenced to life without parole for murder of Savanna Greywind.

Dear God!!!!! poor Savannah :tears:

http://www.grandforksherald.com/new...hout-parole-ordered-woman-who-took-lafontaine

"According to prosecutors, Crews didn't specify when LaFontaine-Greywind died, though she said the woman would briefly come to and then go unconscious again after the C-section."

Good Lord!

:( Gosh I know we were all soooo hoping she didn't know what was happening to her.

"LaFontaine-Greywind agreed to* help, but when she got to Crews’ apartment Crews provoked an argument by accusing LaFontaine-Greywind of mistreating cats.

The two struggled and Crews said she shoved LaFontaine-Greywind to the floor, where she hit her head and fell unconscious.

Then, using a utility knife or some sort of blade, Crews performed a C-section on LaFontaine-Greywind, delivering a baby girl and placing the child in a bathtub.

“She was taking her first breath as her mother was taking her last,” Johnson Martinez said, referring to LaFontaine-Greywind’s daughter, Haisley Jo, who survived the forced delivery."

I wonder if she'll ever tell the real story. They didn't get into an argument about cats. Brook lured her up to her apt with the intention of taking the baby. I think it's more likely she hit her over the head from behind and then took the baby as she went in and out of consciousness.

Agreed, Rocco.

"The mother remained alive after the delivery, but because she was not given medical care, she later died from lack of blood, according to the prosecution.

Five-month-old Haisley Jo was at Friday’s sentencing and spent much of the hearing sitting on the lap of her father, Ashton Matheny. Matheny sat weeping with his head bowed as he listened to the proceedings. He later said it was the first time he learned how Savanna died."

I wonder where this "mistreating cats" came from...somehow I think this is something that Savanna did say, but considering I think Crews premediated everything, maybe Savanna did say that about the cats, but not necessarily at that time, as lies are often based on some bit of truth. Which then shows how Savanna's lovely soul likely cared about animals... :(

"“Acceptance of responsibility is the first step toward change,” Mottinger said, adding that he believes Crews is an intelligent person who would have a lot to offer if given a chance.

Mottinger said he doesn’t know whether Crews will be called to testify during the May trial of her boyfriend, William Henry Hoehn, who along with Crews lived upstairs from LaFontaine-Greywind.

Hoehn, 32, has also been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and providing false information to police. He has pleaded not guilty to all three charges. A phone message left for Hoehn’s attorney seeking comment on Crews’ sentencing was not returned Friday."

"Ashton Matheny, LaFontaine-Greywind’s longtime boyfriend and the father of her child, 5-month-old Haisley Jo, told PEOPLE in December that he feared Crews had cut their daughter out of LaFontaine-Greywind.

His suspicions were confirmed on Friday. “Right now my mind’s kind of paralyzed,” he told reporters after the hearing. “ don’t know how to process it honestly. I don’t think I ever will, because they took the love of my life away. She [Crews] stripped my future away from me.”"

"Matheny, 22, had to leave the courtroom when Crews began speaking during Friday’s hearing, a source tells PEOPLE. He attended the sentencing with Haisley Jo.

Dressed in red to honor murdered and missing indigenous women — LaFontaine-Greywind was Native American — her friends and family were also in court."

"LaFontaine-Greywind’s mother, Norberta Greywind, also addressed the court, saying their family had to move from Fargo after her daughter’s slaying.

“I miss her laugh. I miss her so much,” she reportedly said. “My heart is literally broken. I find myself looking through pictures and videos. Brooke Crews befriended us. She was monitoring our daily routine. I still have nightmares. I cannot accept that someone had done this to my daughter. For someone to do this to another human is beyond evil.”

“The pain and void my granddaughter will have to carry for the rest of her life breaks my heart,” Greywind said. “Haisley will never feel that love from her mother.”"

Such a horrific crime committed against Savanna and her poor little baby. Her mom is right, that this is beyond evil and my heart breaks for Savanna and her family, and my Prayers go out to them all to be able to eventually find some kind of healing.
Those two monsters should get at the least LWOP, IMO.

I thank all of you for your coverage of Crews' sentencing. It gives me faith in humanity to see so many concerned and caring fellow 'sleuths here.

Oh my goodness, that picture of Ashton with Haisley Jo just breaks my heart. My heart hurts for all of Savanna's loved ones. So senseless. :( :(

I’m so glad that justice was served, and that it was swift. The poor family having to listen to how Savanna was killed...it’s all just unthinkable. The photo of Ashton holding little Haisley Joe is just heartbreaking...

She hit her head and went in and out of consciousness. Why did the tenant below hear pounding on the bathroom floor for 20 minutes? That might indicate that Savanna was being restrained. Do we know for an actual fact that Hoehn was not at home at the time and later came home to find Crews mopping up blood?

I had so hoped to find out where the baby and the body were when police went there and searched. Unless I missed it? That would suggest that Crews got the body out by herself. I think Hoehn's tale is fiction.

A bill in Congress aimed at protecting Native American women and girls from violence, abduction and human trafficking is named for Greywind. Savanna's Act, introduced by Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, would improve tribal access to certain federal crime information databases and create standardized protocols for responding to cases of missing and murdered Native Americans.

It also would require an annual report that would include statistics on missing and murdered Native American women.

Agreed. Careful planning went into this. Prior to luring Savanna into the apartment, a tarp may have been laid out in the bathtub where the crude butchery took place. Then, same tarp was wrapped around her and secured, then inserted into some large plastic contractor's bags. Minimal cleanup was necessary. The banging heard from the apartment below seemed to come from the shower/bathtub area of Crews' apartment. So, I believe that Savanna's drifting in and out of consciousness was caused by repeated blows to the head each time she came to again.

Even if it is proven that Hoehn was not in that apartment at the time, and had no prior knowledge of Crews' intentions, he is every bit as guilty as Crews. Rather than calling the authorities on Crews, he willingly helped to clean up, and I believe that he also helped to dispose of Savanna's body afterwards. He may have even disposed of her all by himself while Crews stayed with the baby.

He can lie all he wants. I don't believe that any jury on this continent would believe him and find him innocent.

(My opinion only)

Brook Crews lived in Australia for awhile with a boyfriend she met online. Some interesting info in these articles which I don't think has been shared here yet:

Thanks and welcome spid! Another link included in one of the articles:

Crews hated the 22-year-old Native woman, Martinez said, for reasons having to do with an unruly cat, among others. Once inside the apartment, Crews started an argument with Savanna, pushed her down, knocking her out when she hit her head on a hard object. And then, without anesthetic, Crews grabbed a utility knife or a blade and began performing a crude C-section on Savanna, cutting her hip-to-hip.

“There were no efforts to save Savanna’s life when this was going on,” Martinez said. “She was merely a vessel for the baby Brooke Crews planned on stealing.” Quoting Crews’s testimony Martinez said, “She would wake up and pass out, and wake up and pass back out, and then she would wake up, but it happened so fast. I did cut her, and then I took her baby out of her. She was not dead when I cut her and took her baby out of her.
...
Crews had multiple opportunities to confess, but she didn’t, Martinez said. Instead, Crews lied to police, telling them Savanna wanted out of the pregnancy, that she planned on leaving her family and boyfriend, so she taught Savanna how to break her own water.
