Remember today the 298 murder victims on flight MH17, shot out of the sky on July 17, 2014, by Russian forces invading Ukraine. The murderers have gone unpunished and their leader remains unaccountable.

Putin's giant propaganda machine has made an industry of lies and accusations about MH17 (and I'm sure you will see many of them in the comments very soon!), but all the evidence points at what was logically understood the day of the attack. Today there should be no doubt what really happened and that Russia has worked very hard to cover up the truth—and that many leaders in the free world are helping with the cover-up to avoid taking any action.

When MH17 was shot down by Russian forces in Ukraine, many believed that it would be a turning point in the free world's apathy toward Putin's increasingly aggressive dictatorship. Surely this horror would not be ignored or covered up! Instead, it has only proved that the free world's leaders will do anything to avoid acknowledging the truth, anything to avoid admitting that their weakness has led to murder and ruin, anything to avoid standing up to a dictator who is therefore emboldened to strike again.

That is so true. The Dutch PM will travel to Australia to say he is sorry, but he will not lift one finger to move the criminal case even the slightest bit forward. Or on a different subject, stop returning Jihadists.
There is much to be said about Putin, but our impression is that in the end, Putin will always stand for the best interests of his own country, an attitude that our 'leaders' seem to have forgotten long ago.

COURT ORDERS PUBLICATION OF DOCUMENTS ABOUT MH17

From day one, Dutch Government was convinced that Russian separatists downed the plane.

RTL Nieuws
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nederland/mh17-stukken-openbaar-onder-druk-rechter

Under pressure from the courts, the Ministry of Security and Justice has published a series of papers on MH17. The State Attorney has released the documents this week after a joint legal procedure of RTL Nieuws, NOS broadcast and the Volkskrant.

The documents concern the interpretation in reports of the National Coordinator for Terrorism and Security (NCTV), shortly after the disaster, about the facts, the perpetrators and the major problems that would follow.

Much of this information and estimates were kept secret until now. They turn out to give a good insight into the first days after the disaster.
The Dutch government is clear from day one that the Russian separatists are the perpetrators: "In case of the downing of the plane, which seems increasingly likely, it will lead to an additional shock, especially if this would have happened intentionally." And, a moment later: "New indications of a rocket attack."

Also, reports of meetings of senior officials from a special committee (Interdepartmental Committee on Crisis Management, ICCB) are now being made public belatedly. They show how huge the problems were with the repatriation of victims, and how difficult dealing with survivors was, with imaging and international politics: "The Netherlands run the risk of becoming a political foorball in a propaganda war."

The reports also show among other things that senior officials had a preference for prosecution in the Netherlands: "Prosecution desired in NL" is written. RTL News publishes the documents in their entirety, so that everyone can read the documents about the disaster. The first part is here (pdf), the second here (pdf).

In June the court ruled in an interim ruling that the ministry had blackened too much information. According to the State Attorney (pdf) due to 'timing' now still more can be made public. Also plays a role that the report of the Onderzoeksraad has become public, and an evaluation of the University of Twente.

The reports of meetings of the special ministerial committee which was responsible for MH17 remain completely secret. According to the State Attorney the unity of government policy could be at risk, and ministers might no longer speak freely in the future if the documents it should be made public.

This refusal is one of the reasons for the NOS, the Volkskrant newspaper and RTL News to continue the lawsuit against the state.

MALAYSIAN AIRLINES FLIGHT MH17 INVESTIGATION PINPOINTS EXACTLY WHERE MISSIEL ORIGINATED

SMH.au.com
http://www.smh.com.au/world/malysia...re-all-nnn-nnn-vars-o&sa=D&usg=ALhdy28zsr6qiq

London: The criminal investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 has pinpointed the exact launch site of the missile that brought it down, a source close to the investigation says.

The Joint Investigation Team, including experts from Australia, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine, has gathered evidence of the launch site of a standard that could be presented in a potential criminal trial.

The results of their investigation will be made public next Tuesday, first of all to the families and loved ones of the 298 people killed in the July 2014 crash, then in a media conference.

The investigators are also expected to identify the weapon used to shoot down the plane - however they are not expected to identify who launched the missile.

The investigation into the perpetrators is still continuing, and that evidence will likely be kept in reserve for a potential criminal trial.
Leaders and foreign ministers from countries including Australia will discuss the potential for such a trial in the wings of the United Nations general assembly this week.

PRESSCO PUBLIC PROSECUTOR:

PROOF THAT MH17 WAS DOWNED FROM PRO-RUSSIAN REBEL TERRITORY, 100 PERSONS OF INTEREST

RTL Nieuws
http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nederland/o...ussisch-rebellengebied-honderd-betrokkenen-in

The BUK rocket that downed flight MH17, was fired from a territory in eastern Ukraine that was under the control of pro-Russian rebels. For the downing of the plane a BUK missile was used that was brought in from Russia and then was returned to Russia.

That has been confirmed by the investigation of the Public Prosecutor (OM). "We can conclusively prove that it was a BUK." Recently, the first results of the criminal investigation by the International Joint Investigation Team (JIT) were disclosed to the relatives of flight MH17 in Nieuwegein (Netherlands).

The exact position of the launcher of the rocket is an arable field in Pervomajsk, six kilometers south of the town Snizhne. This corresponds to the launch site that RTL News indicated in 2014. At that location, the pro-Russian separatists were in charge on that day.

There are one hundred persons of interest.

On 17 July, flight MH17 Malaysia Airlines, left from Schiphol Airport and was shot, over eastern Ukraine. The disaster killed all the passengers on the flight. Among the 298 victims were 196 Dutch citizens.

This morning the families of the victims were the first to be informed about the results of the investigation.

Russia continues to deny that pro-Russian rebels have anything to do with the downing of flight MH17. On Monday they gave a press conference where they presented "proof" that the rocket was not fired from the separatist region. The missile, according to the Russians, was fired from Ukrainian territory.

The Joint Investigation team (JIT) firmly denies the version of the Russians.

Correspondent Jeroen Akkermans has done a lot of research in the disaster area into the origin of the missile. "This is a confirmation of suspicions existing since long ago. Russia denies any involvement and based on the latest data, this has become even less credible," Akkermans says.

The key word here is PROOF.
Other than that. the story has not changed since the first hours after the downing of the airplane.
Legsal proof is of course a different story.

Apparently, the JIT left no stone unturned:

MH17 air crash probe prompted secret missile tests in Finland

yle.fin
http://yle.fi/uutiset/osasto/news/m...mpted_secret_missile_tests_in_finland/9195578

A Finnish defence official has confirmed that secret missile tests were carried out in Finland two years ago. The tests were reportedly carried out in cooperation with Dutch investigators to determine which kinds of missiles could have been used in the downing of the Malaysian Airlines MH17 plane in eastern Ukraine which killed all 298 people on board, most of whom were from the Netherlands.

The time and exact location of the tests remain secret. Neither the Ministry of Defence nor the Defence Forces have commented about the Dutch news report.

The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that the tests found the weapon in question was a Russian Buk missile.

JIT: Flight MH17 was shot down by a BUK missile from a farmland near Pervomaiskyi

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is convinced of having obtained irrefutable evidence to establish that on 17 July 2014, flight MH-17 was shot down by a BUK missile from the 9M38-series. According to the JIT there is also evidence identifying the launch location that involves an agricultural field near Pervomaiskyi which, at the time, was controlled by pro-Russian fighters. This was announced today by the JIT during a presentation for the relatives of the victims. Members of the JIT, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine, are working together on the criminal investigation into the crash of flight MH17.

Today, the interim results of the criminal investigation which included the findings regarding the weapon and launch location were presented. The investigation into those responsible for the crash will take more time.

JIT-AGREEMENT HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JANUARY 1, 2018; FOCUS OF INVESTIGATION ON PERPETRATORS

https://www.om.nl/actueel/nieuwsberichten/@96068/jit-flight-mh17-shot/

Now that we have established what happened, the investigation now focuses on the perpetrators. This will be a matter for the long haul. So far, the JIT has identified approximately 100 people who can be linked to the downing of MH17 or the transport of the BUK-TELAR. The JIT has been investigating these people through various sources, such as intercepted telephone conversations and witness statements.

In addition, an investigation is conducted into the chain of command. Who gave the order to bring the BUK-TELAR into Ukraine and who gave the order to shoot down flight MH17? Did the crew decide for themselves or did they execute a command from their superiors? This is important when determining the offences committed by the alleged perpetrators.

The JIT wishes to emphasise that it continues to seek additional information and evidence, including information from insider witnesses. Ukrainian law provides for lower sentences, and in certain circumstances relief from criminal liability, for those who cooperate with the investigation.

Furthermore, the website www.jitmh17.com now includes a number of intercepted telephone conversations. The JIT is now asking for information about certain people who participated in these conversations. People who can identify these voices are requested to report this to the JIT.

The JIT will be actively involved in the investigation in the coming period and for that reason the JIT agreement was extended yesterday, until 1 January 2018.

ITEMS RELATING TO MH17 WERE RIGHTFULLY SEIZED - BONE FRAGMENT FOUND OF PASSENGER IDENTIFIED IN 2014

Dutch Public Prosecutor
https://www.om.nl/actueel/nieuwsberichten/@97494/items-relating-to/

The forensic investigation into items taken out of Ukraine by Dutch journalist Michel Spekkers which were possibly related to the MH17 crash has shown that one of the items is a fragment of human bone. The other items were also investigated and found not to be relevant to the criminal investigation.

DNA testing carried out by the Netherlands Forensic Institute established that the bone fragment is from a passenger whose identity was established in 2014. The victim’s next-of-kin have been informed.

(...)

In the past few days there has been much discussion on social media on the journalist’s actions and those of the police. The impression has sometimes been given that the area in eastern Ukraine where MH17 was downed is freely accessible to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). This is not the case, due to national and international legislation on legal assistance in criminal cases. After all, the self-proclaimed republics DPR and LPR are not recognised as autonomous states.

The MH17 repatriation mission was concluded in April 2015, with a final visit to the crash site to collect personal belongings and wreckage from local people (https://www.government.nl/ministrie...ws/2015/04/30/mh17-repatriation-mission-ended). It is still possible that items relating to the disaster could be found at the crash site. Now that the cause of the crash has been established beyond any doubt, actively searching for wreckage no longer serves any purpose within the criminal investigation. However, it has been agreed with contacts in the area that any material found there (including victims’ remains) can be handed in. There is regular contact with them to check the state of affairs in that respect, and additional contact was made following Mr Spekkers’ finds.

BELLINGCAT: IDENTIFYING KHMURYI, THE MAJOR GENERAL LINKED TO THE DOWNING OF MH17

Bellingcat
https://www.bellingcat.com/news/uk-...-major-general-linked-to-the-downing-of-mh17/

Bellingcat’s conclusion is that the man whose telephone was tapped by the Ukrainian Security Service on 17 July 2014, assuming the SBU correctly identified his voice and/or knew that the intercepted telephone number belonged to him and was thus involved in the transport of the Buk missile launcher that downed MH17 on the same date, is named Sergey Nikolaevich Dubinsky, nicknamed ‘Khmuryi’.

Dubinsky is a Russian war veteran and was a colonel in July 2014, fought in the Soviet-Afghan war and later in Chechnya, and later served in the 22nd Spetsnaz Brigade, a unit connected to the ‘GRU’, the Main Intelligence Directorate.

This man does not appear to be the same person as the bearded man, who likely coincidentally also used the call sign ‘Khmuryi’ in a June 2014 interview; Dubinsky wrote in the Antikvariat forum on 2 July 2014 that he had been confused with someone else “from Slavyansk.”

However, Dubinsky may be the same person as the masked man in an October 2014 video titled ‘Sergey Nikolaevich Petrovsky (call sign Khmuryi, Bad Soldier)’, previously uploaded on 12 June 2014 as ‘Spetsnaz of Strelkov’. Dubinsky wrote in the same post of 2 July 2014 on the Antikvariat forum that he is not a man seen in the media, with one exception, just as he read in the text of the 12 June 2014 video.

AUSTRALIA: MH17 PERPETRATORS MAY BE TRIED IN ABSENTIA

Reuters
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-a...eb5&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook

The perpetrators who brought down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in July 2014, killing all 298 aboard, may be tried in absentia, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Sunday.

Most of those on board the Boeing 777 were Dutch, but others came from 17 countries, including 38 Australians.

It was shot down by a Russian-made Buk missile over eastern Ukrainian territory held by pro-Russia separatists, the Dutch Safety Board concluded in 2015.

Late in June, the Netherlands said suspects in the case would be tried in a Dutch court, and under Dutch law.

Bishop said "every legal avenue" was being pursued, and urged Russia to comply with UN Security Council resolution 2166, authored by Australia.

#OnThisDay in 2014, Malaysian Airlines jet MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down over Ukraine killing all 298 on board

:rose:

As the third anniversary of the tragedy dawns, no suspects have been arrested although it was announced this month that any trials will be held in The Netherlands.

About 100 people are wanted in connection with the disaster, after Dutch-led investigators concluded the plane was shot down by a Russian-made BUK missile transported from Russia into areas held by pro-Russian rebels.

The trees in the memorial will be surrounded by sunflowers, which bloom in July, and will "radiate a golden glow" over the trees, the foundation said.

The flowers also represent "the sunflower fields in eastern Ukraine where some parts of the plane wreckage were found".

Each of the trees bears the name of one of the victims. And at the heart of the forest of 11 different tree varieties is a steel memorial shaped like an eye, turned upwards looking at the skies.

One apple tree has been dedicated to 16-year-old Gary, from Rotterdam, whose body has still not yet been identified.

TRIAL OF MH17 PERPETRATORS PROBLEMATIC

EenVandaag
http://buitenland.eenvandaag.nl/tv-items/75331/berechting_daders_mh17_onzeker

It remains to be seen if the perpetrators of flight MH17 will ever disappear behind the bars. There is even a chance that the whole trial will not happen. This is the opinion of Geert-Jan Knoops, professor of international criminal law, in an exclusive interview with EenVandaag. Next Monday it will be exactly 3 years since flight MH17 was downed over Ukraine.

A bitter message for the surviving families of the 298 victims, including 196 Dutchmen. Almost three years after the fatal crash, the investigators of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) have not yet managed to identify potential perpetrators. In fact, the investigation appears to be stalling. The JIT has not published anything about the investigation for nearly a year. This to the great frustration of the relatives.

What JIT has published is that the plane was downed by a Russian BUK rocket. Who launched the rocket remains unclear for now, but it has been determined that the rocket originated from Russia and that it was launched from a spot that was currently under the control of separatists.

Investigators of journalism investigative group Bellingcat and other investigation journalists concluded that the 53th air defense missile brigade from the Kursk city of Kursk had to be involved in the downing of MH17. The role of the Russians seems therefore evident. Big question remains whether they will collaborate with the investigation and trial of potential Russian suspects. According to Knoops, that chance is very small because the Russian constitution prohibits the extradition of nationals.

A JIT spokesperson does not want to address any problems surrounding a possible criminal trial. Neither Prime Minister Rutte wants to cooperate because "our attention is currently focused on the relatives".

In the report a video with an interview with Rob Frederiksz and Silene Fredriksz-Hoogzand, parents of MH17 passenger Bryce Frederiksz.
Bryce and his girlfriend Daisy Oehlers had seats in the middle part of the plane.
From an earlier interview:
"Passengers who were sitting there, were cremated in the air," says Rob says."Our hope to get their bodies back, we have had to adjust that over and again," Silene says. "I've had to adjust eighty times."
At last, Bryce's right foot was found. And a small piece of Daisy's pelvic bone. Later a few more bones. Finally, nineteen pieces of both, including skull remains, were located.

Q What would you like to say to Rutte?
RF Well, he knows that, because we often speak with him. And then we tell him that there needs to be more political pressure. But he says, I'm not going to interfere politically. With that criminal investigation.
Q He said that to you?
RF Yes that is what he tells us
Q Because you spoke to him?
RF We speak him regularly.
SFH One of the points we have stressed the last time is the fact that Ukraine had not closed the airspace. That was actually a closed chapter for Dutch politics, but not for us. And he promised that it will be put on the agenda again.

On July 5 the MH17 Joint Investigation Team signalled its intent to press charges against those who perpetrated the crime.

The decision to prosecute was made jointly by the Australian, Belgian, Malaysian, Ukraine and Netherlands governments.

Mr Bociurkiw said it was significant the Dutch have assumed jurisdiction over criminal trial which would be held in the Netherlands.

He said the joint investigation team had an "incredible" amount of evidence and are on the verge of naming 100 suspects.

"We can be pretty sure that those 100 suspects are all in Russia or in territories in Ukraine controlled by the Russian-backed rebels," he said.
"The big question is whether Russia will give up it's own citizens for trial? That's doubtful as it is in it's constitution they don't do this."
