GUILTY NM - Renezmae Calzada, 5, found deceased, Rio Arriba County, 8 Sept 2019 *Arrest*

Parents of deceased Española girl release statement (with clip)

Sep 18, 2019

"ESPANOLA, N.M. (KRQE) – There still have been no arrests in connection to the death of Renezmae Calzada, but for the first time, New Mexicans are hearing from the parents of the 5-year-old whose body was discovered in the Rio Grande in Espanola.

The mother and father of Renezmae say they are still coping with the loss of their daughter as they plan for her funeral. In the letter, the parents refer to her as “Mae Mae’ and say she loved music, dancing, and her favorite toy, Mr. Bear....

...The FBI has not named any suspects, and are waiting on autopsy results to figure out a cause of death.

“We will not stop until we can identify the responsible party for Renezmae,” said James Langenberg with the FBI.

Tuesday, Renezmae’s mother and biological father, Jon Calzada, put out a statement. They say they won’t comment on the case because they do not want to hinder the investigation...."

The parent's silence, and recent statement saying they don't want to hinder the investigation, tells me that they think they right suspect is already in jail. It just feels that way to me. JMO

If they had no idea what happened, I think Mom would be begging the public for help, and describing exact circumstances of when and where her child went missing and who was watching her. The silence seems like a shocked grief like silence. IMO

Memorial for 5-year-old to be held Saturday
A public memorial is planned Saturday in Española for 5-year-old Renezmae Calzada, whose body was recovered last week from the Rio Grande, her family announced Tuesday.

[...]

“We are extremely thankful to all of those that took the time to help search for Mae Mae,” the girl’s mother, Victoria Maestas, and Jon Calzada said in a statement posted on Facebook. They also thanked those who donated food, water and money to the search effort.

“We believe that Northern New Mexico and surrounding communities should celebrate Mae Mae’s life with us,” Maestas and Calzada wrote.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 908 Calle Rosario, followed by a catered “thank-you reception” for the community and law enforcement at the Santa Claran Hotel Casino’s event center.

[...]

The family members said they are planning a private funeral for Renezmae with traditional Native American practices.

Law enforcement officials said they still have no suspects in the girl’s death. The FBI, which is leading the investigation, has pledged to “pursue every lead and use all our resources to find out what happened to Renezmae.”

[...]

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albuquerque, which is handling media inquiries, said Tuesday there were no updates in the case.

Not necessarily true. We have to keep in mind the way names of Mexican/Spanish origin are constructed. Many times it will be two last names with the father's last name first and mother's last name second. So, it is quite possible that Malcolm really has a last name of Torres Archuleta - we just don't know.

I believe Archuleta is MT's family name,an aunt and uncle in photos on his fb page have this name.

Bumping for Mae Mae.

I also think the right suspect is in custody already. I've been keeping an eye on his booking page waiting for additional charges to drop, which will likely happen close to or on Sep 25th.

Since the FBI has taken this case over if there are going to be charges they will happen in federal court and won't show up on the county jail site.

Hundreds attend services for 5-year-old Española girl

[...]

Close to 200 people attended a memorial Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, requiring the opening of the choir loft to accommodate everyone. At least as many, including New Mexico’s governor, then attended what Renezmae’s family referred to as a “thank you” reception at the Santa Claran Events Center.

[...]

“Mae Mae found her way home,” he said. “It may not be the way we wanted, but she’s home.”

[...]

“This one really affected us,” Melvin said, explaining why he made the trip up from Albuquerque to attend the Mass. “We came to pay our respects. We all have small kids, so this one really touched us.”

[...]

At the Mass, Donovan Maestas, who was the only family member to speak at the Mass and reception, eulogized Renezmae by saying that “nothing shined brighter than her smile.”

Another trait Renezmae possessed was generosity, he said. She was always willing to share.

Renezmae also had an unbreakable bond with her little brother, a toddler they call Nacho, he said.

Maestas said that while collecting photos of Renezmae for the memorial, Nacho would point to pictures and say, “Sis, sis.”

“He (Nacho) will always, and it’s important for us, to remember Mae,” Maestas said.

[...]

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, invited by the family to speak at the reception, told the gathering that it’s important for all New Mexicans to remember that our families and our children are precious.

[...]

A table at the events center was filled with flowers, prayer candles, and a pair of Renezmae’s teddy bears, and the walls were decorated with handmade sympathy cards created by Española school children.

[...]

The reception also included a performance by Native American drummers, singers and dancers.

Renezmae’s mother, Victoria, is from Santa Clara Pueblo, and a statement from the family last week said Renezmae’s funeral would “be performed in traditional Native American practices.”
