GUILTY NM - Renezmae Calzada, 5, found deceased, Rio Arriba County, 8 Sept 2019 *Arrest*

In October 2018, Torres was arrested and charged in a domestic violence incident in Española. Maestas told police that during an argument, Torres jumped on her, choked her and hit her with a closed fist.

“Victoria stated their children came into the room and Malcolm told the kids to go back into their rooms,” a criminal complaint says. Afterward, Torres threw her to the kitchen floor twice, Maestas told police.

“After the altercation, they gathered their children and went to the Santa Claran Casino to take their kids trick-or-treating,” the State Police complaint says, before the fight resumed in a car. Maestas said Torres slammed her head into the steering wheel and punched her. He then grabbed their young son and left on foot.

Police noted injuries or marks on Maestas’ neck and face. The charges were dismissed in January.

hmmmmm.....

"Online blogs and postings about the girl’s disappearance, including Facebook updates, say Maestas was at work all day Sunday and left her daughter in the care of her mother, who did not tell her daughter about the girl’s disappearance until Maestas returned from work."

Española girl’s body found in Rio Grande
Ugh! It's impossible to nail down a timeline in this case. When she was last seen, who was caring for her, and where - contradictory reports for all. MOO

Baby King has popped in my head a few times here over the past few days...he was found only a mile away from his home, iirc.

Sperm donor tried to claim he fell and his head on a dresser, iirc. There was much coverup by others.

I don't know if this is correct but, if so, I think it's important to point out that she was found floating.

Five-year-old girl who disappeared playing outside her step-dad’s is found dead in the Rio Grande
Dive crews and an Albuquerque Police boat were seen stalking the edge of the river at the southern part of the town, where they found the girl floating in the water.

I would also like to express my gratitude to @AbbeyBabbey for her insight here. Very, very helpful and much appreciated! :)

Hmmm, how deep is the water? It usually takes a while for bodies to rise in water, doesn’t it (gases)...I wonder if this is an indication she’s been in there a while...but if the water was really warm, maybe? We see how a lot of bodies are found after winter when the bodies rise from warmer water temps, iirc learning in Dylan’s case?

Now I wonder about disarticulation again, but perhaps that wouldn’t occur if the max date range is Aug 29.

On Aug. 7, Maestas filed a petition against Torres over custody, online court records indicate.

A child support hearing had been scheduled for Nov. 7. Also, records show that a Family Court Services “consultation continuation appointment” was scheduled for Wednesday – the day Renezmae’s body was found.

Why were the charges dismissed?

Hmmmm...

What exactly is a “consultation continuation appointment” as it relates here?

You know I was just thinking about the water and I imagine that and perhaps muddiness ( @AbbeyBabbey, can you please lend any insight on the water itself? Tia! Your local insight has been great here so thank you so much) isn’t going to help things either. But the good news is that Renezmae was found within a few days after LE was notified so at least that is something (as opposed to say, little Lucas).

It’s a good point about decomp considering we still don’t know when she was actually really last seen alive by anyone else, but I’m optimistic atm that hopefully not so much time has gone by that COD will be indeterminable. We do know that disarticulation can occur in water but hopefully that’s not the case.

Whatever the case I think we can bank on homicide as MOD, moo.
The Rio Grande is a fast moving river as it passes under the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge Northwest of Taos with white water rapids through much of the 50+ mile stretch through the rocky canyon as it drops from 7,000 ft to 5,600 ft. As it enters into the Espanola Valley South of Embudo and North of Velarde, it slows, helped by a couple of small "dams" and becomes lazy and slow moving (except at spring thaw and run-off) through the valley and continues that way into Albuquerque and South into Elephant Butte Lake at Truth or Consequences. It is muddy - very muddy through much of that journey (and all the way to El Paso). That's not to say that it is a place to swim as there is under-current and debris and one never knows when a thunderstorm will crop up and turn it into a raging beast in a matter of minutes.

When it is low, I call it the Rio Poquito. lol
ETA it's fairly low right now due to lack of precipitation. We didn't get much of a monsoon this year.

Thanks. I was wondering if the Rio Grande in Espanola is similar to how it is in Albuquerque. We have family in Albuquerque and are there a lot. That river is SO shallow & stagnant. My dog tries to swim in it, but not deep enough to actually swim. We can walk across no problem & this is how I remember it for years.
I know a person can drown in a small amount of water, but this is definitely not a raging, rushing river.

I didn’t check in yesterday. I was dreading coming here because I think we all knew the ending to yet another precious defenseless young life. I don’t believe this was accidental. People who have children die accidentally call police immediately. They band together hoping to find their child/step-child. I have my suspicions, but I don’t know exactly who caused her death. I suspect LE will let us know soon enough. Many prayers to her family and friends. ALL jmo, of course.

I’m so sad about this. Such a beautiful little girl. There’s just no sense to this. :(

And there never will be because of exactly what you have posted. :(

For millions of people everytime a beautiful precious child is brutally killed it will always be senseless. We will never comprehend the evilness displayed by what I call, subhumans.

Imo, nor are any of us meant to understand any of it either for we are those filled with love for all of society's children.

To begin to understand these monsters we would have to have the same evil thoughts, and depraved intentions which is impossible for any of us do.

That is because that is exactly what it is, senseless, and always will be to everyone who believes in their heart, and deeply in their soul that all children, whether older or younger like little precious MaeMae are truly treasured blessings, and would give their own lives in order to protect them.

Even if they are unmarried without children of their own, we have seen many heartfelt courageous stories about men or women putting their own lifes on the line in order to protect, and save our precious children.

It shows there are far more good caring people of both genders, who genuinely care about all children than the evil ones who plot to do grave harm against the most defenseless in our society.

I am broken hearted once again MaeMae is another child who was brutally murdered when evil penetrated her happy world where she couldn't continue to make our world a much better place. :(

I am very thankful her mother, and family is receiving so much support from their community.

May they find out who did this to little MaeMae quckly, and may justice be swift, unkind, and the harshest punishment given.

Jmhoo

Yes - it is somewhat similar to Albuquerque (in a muddy, lazy way), however; some diversion occurs for crops before it hits Albuquerque so it is fuller North of Cochiti Lake (South of Santa Fe).

And - yes- there are some places that one can walk across near Albuquerque at certain times of the year (that's when I call it the Rio Poquito lol) but I doubt there are many near Espanola at any time. I wouldn't try to walk cross it or swim across!

I have never seen any LE outright say someone is not a suspect publicly, and then later on they are the suspect.

Do you know of any such case LE has publicly said someone was not a suspect, and it turned out LE lied? I ask, because I've honestly never seen them ever do such a thing.

It doesn't have to be lying for the sake of lying - Stephen Crawford found Arlis Perry's body and he was ruled out as a suspect for 3 decades until DNA confirmed he murdered her.

I should have been more clear, I mean that police don't have anything to go on and the person may have an alibi or pass a polygraph (technically clearing them as a suspect, like Gary Ridgeway in many of his murders) but police still suspect them and may continue to investigate them. I'm not saying the police have enough evidence to go to trial but still let the person go and announce they're no longer a suspect, I'm saying that police can still suspect someone they've named as not a suspect which is why I don't always trust when they say someone's been ruled out.

Your statement about letting them go without announcing they've been cleared is way more common though, like with Sabrina Aisenberg and Lisa Irwin's parents.

This is very similar imo to Amiah Robertson’s case, as far as trying to nail down a timeline. I finally put one together with the all the conflicting accounts, etc and it was PAGES long...

Here I’m not sure if the variable accounts are coming from the parties themselves, or the media, considering LE really hasn’t said anything but about this. In Amiah’s case it was definitely coming from the parties themselves imo...I’d have to go back and read again about what’s coming from whom exactly.
