I never did believe it was all about custody, never will either. Yes they had some weird thinking patterns, but something else was going on, I'd bet my last dollar.
We (normal thinking people) tend to make things more complicated; things are always very simple. We're trying to understand their way of thinking when we can't. Just like when Leonard stated from day 1 it was over custody. I'm betting we ALL thought "sure, sure." We are incapable of thinking evil and criminal when that's exactly what that family is. They walk among us everyday.
IMO, that's why we're all here on this site. We're desperately seeking a plausible answer to their actions.

Good morning from the Pike County trial - start of Week 8 of testimony. First up is the outside forensic expert Bill Bodziak, called the godfather of shoe print analysis. He is opting in for video so I'll be live tweeting from the media room today.

Next is expected to be BCI gun expert Matt White, who will talk about reconstructing the cut-up murder weapons, and then Julia Eveslage, who will introduce wiretapped conversations between Jake and George Wagner in truck cross country. Not sure on order yet.

For those of you counting, this is day 33 of the trial, 32 of testimony. We've had three days off - one for sickness the other day for Columbus and one for the judge being unavailable.

I am going to guess Angela had no idea they could figure out what shoe left that print without having a shoe to compare it to. I admit I had no idea until this trial. I figured you needed a shoe to compare it too. If she thought that also, then just buying shoes and then burning them wouldn't be something she would be worried could be linked to them. I'm sure in their minds they didn't put the shoes on until they were in the back of the truck. They only wore them at the crime scenes and then they were taken off and burned so how would anyone link those prints to their feet even with a receipt for shoes.

Jake said he carried the shoes to the truck before putting them on so he wouldn"t get Peterson Rd dirt on his shoes. Didn't want to leave his home dirt at the Rhoden's.

Bodziak is very good. He did a good job analyzing these prints.

Four impressions were found at 4077 Union Hill Rd.

IIRC, the Goldmans won their civil case against OJ based on this witness identifying the Bruno Magli shoes & the later photo of OJ with them on his feet.

and this is where I have issues with footwear impression experts, open-source molds are an issue,

He shouldn't have worried too much... he could have just buried them or sunk them on his/their property. Worried about dirt? Gosh

Bodziak identified as expert by judge - he testified in OJ trial and identified Bruno Mali prints at scene - later found that OJ had those shoes. Also testified in Timothy McVeigh Oklahoma City trial. Now going through how he does examinations and details.

Now going through how treads/outsoles are made and how they are different as they get bigger - using slides. Looking at the Walmart Athletic Works shoes at the heart of this case.

Says texture is key to identify each mold and shoes

He's been personally to 25 shoe factories. Been 4-5 where mold making involved.

He was asked to look at the prints from the scene and Walmart athletic works shoes in June 2018 - then did the analysis in August 2018.

Said solving the kind of shoes and brand was already solved. He went to local Walmart and compared pictures of prints to compare to that kind of shoe.

Found size 10.5 and 11 that matched, bought three pairs including a size 10.

Here are treads of shoes he bought

The size 10.5 and 11 have different tread patterns because the stippling is done by hand in a factory - as shown on previous video.

Says there are "tremendous variation" of patterns between 10.5 and 11 of that brand of shoes.

Here are shoe prints from the crime scenes

Compared to sites especially Chris Rhoden sr house where they were taken

Two prints - one corresponded to size 11 left shoe and one corresponded to 10.5 left shoe. Another was smudged/smeared and hard to compare.

Enlargement of Size 11 comparison

Compared and match of size 10.5
These were originally in blood but changed and covered by crystal violet by BCI crime scene agents, who then cut out pieces of the floor from Rhoden house.

Moving on to the prints found at Dana Rhoden's house - these weren't cut out but done with gel lifts.

Here are pictures of the gel lifts from Dana Rhodens
Says texture of one print in Dana house matched size 11 shoe

Another print matched the brand, but he couldn't determine size.

Size 10 excluded from all but one print. It could have been the last print, but also could have been sizes 10.5 or 11.

He says his conclusions within scientific degree of certainty. Prosecution done on direct - Richard Nash up for defense for cross examination

Bodziak got several reports including from BCI shoe print Suzanne Elliott expert (he had trained her). Never looked at her report for mistakes etc.

On cross, Nash asking about Bodziak's access to databases he doesn't have because he's no longer in law enforcement. He asks about how Bodziak would identify a brand especially nonproprietary soles.

Bodziak says he can't technically eliminate another shoe other than Walmart Athletic Works because the maker could have sold the pattern to someone else.

He can't say whether the sole mold was non-proprietary or not. Nash also presenting a Starter brand picture and asking if it matches the Athletic Works style.

Says he can't compare textures. But asking if other brands have this texture and this sole? Bodziak says yes.

No logos or impressions in what was left at crime scene. Starter had its brand in a blocked off area of the soles.

Also was given foot impressions of two individuals in this case from BCI Nash closes by asking if Bodziak is testifying George Wagner left those prints? "In summary no" just that prints matched shoes

Now on redirect - points out differences from Starter print (from a previous report of Bodziak's).

Reconfirms that Athletic Works sizes 10.5 or 11 matched prints in Chris Sr and Dana's house.

Now onto morning break. Will start a new thread for that

I recall the pre-trial hearing where he testified and it was good. He knows his stuff. I recall being able to understand exactly how he did what he did when he explained it. Sometimes the expert testimony is over my head or feels confusing, but he was crystal clear, sure of himself, and just matter of fact about it. I like him.

Judge called a recess until 11:00 am ET.

Nash is trying to confuse the jury...yeah...sure...right. He can hardly wait for the witness to respond. before he asks another gotcha question.

Looks like from my live feed they defense guy just had to put his phone somewhere. Seemed annoyed by that.

Also, I hope this is the wire taps! LOL I want to hear this!

Second morning thread from George Wagner IV trial - next witness is BCI special agent Ryan Scheiderer, who led the investigation. Going over proffer of Jake Wagner

April 17 and 19 of 2021 were the dates of the proffer. Met with family of victims to get approval first.

After first day, they did search warrant of Flying W farms on April 18 because Jake told them that's where murder weapons. Also tracked down vehicle with Jake's uncle in Athens County.

Used dive teams from Franklin County and Ross County at lake at Flying W. Found goosebox/house where Jake said it was. No longer floating and no longer white as it sunk. Buckets with concrete located

They recovered buckets, examined and photographed and xrayed them. Agents asked BCI gun lab if they could remove parts from concrete and what could be done with them. Matt White said he would make those efforts.

After getting buckets, they finished the proffer the next day. They also found the truck at Jake's uncle's where he said it was.

Recovered truck on April 21 2021 five year anniversary of murders and when Jake pleaded in court

1667230288455.png

The truck had a hole in it where Jake said there would be. It had given to Billy Wagner's niece Katie.

But when they found it - truck was no longer running it had been disabled and stored for several years. Had to be towed.

Transferred the title the day after the murder. Katie Wagner says her uncle gave her the title - previous owner was Silas Wagner. April 22, 2016 - the day of some of the murders and the day after when it started.

Actually Jake pleaded on April 22, 2021 not April 21.

No cross examination for Scheiderer. The next witness isn't here yet.

Going on lunch break until 1 p.m.

Correction Jake's cousin and Billy's niece is Katy Wagner, not Katie ...
