Looks like a development environment, web based, probably twitter-sponsored. They acquired a site called Posterous a couple years back and was supposed to integrate it into a webhosting frame work, similar to imgur/instagram. This might be that technology put to use, or something else with their development API. This would be in line with his work, I suppose, but he hasn't done much with it.

I'm bad that way myself, I'll sign up for stuff to test drive a new app/environment but if I don't find a good use-case for it it idles. I use throwaway passwords for new accounts like this, and tend to forget them unless I write 'em down somewhere. He strikes me as someone who might want to be an early adopter, there may be lots of accounts like this that don't produce much actual "usage".

However, sometimes the site won't like a person's chosen username/length, and sleuthing even abandoned accounts sometimes yield clues/references to other online nicknames. I'd caution that username variants can unintentionally produce unrelated/uninvolved parties, so just be careful where we let this take the sleuthing.

I have seen comments by him on Reddit that tornado changed his life. Apparently he was right in the middle of it and he knew people who died.
