Found Deceased SD - Christopher Oien, 28, Deadwood, 14 Jan 2018

“We’re still following up on a few things, and we’ll probably bring back the cadaver dogs when we get a prolonged thaw, in April or so,” said Deadwood Police Chief Kelly Fuller Monday. “We went into the search area again Feb. 2. Somebody on horseback combed the area with negative results. We also did another drone flight that day, also with negative results.”

The “hot spot” area that continues to be searched is the last area from which 28-year-old Christopher Oien’s cell phone last pinged.

ugh, that quote must be so hard for his family and loved ones... cadaver dogs in APRIL... Until then?...

sad...

Following-- I just can't quite figure out what makes these young men just vanish after being in a bar. Some are seen running like they are being chased, but ALL of them??
Could his drink or food have been spiked with a drug to make him hallucinate or something he may have taken voluntarily cause him to hallucinate?? OR were there really people chasing him and for what reason??

Hope he is found soon...Dear Lord, April sure is a long time to wait for another search with dogs..his poor parents :(

I can't tell from the statements from his family and PD whether they actually have CCTV of him being chased by people or he just appears to be being pursued (ie; running, looking over his shoulder etc)? If there were others on the tape wouldn't they release it in a hope they can identify others on the tape?

It was said he was seen jumping off the roof of a building into the parking lot where he was caught on video running up the street and was alone. My guess is it appeared he was being chased because he was running, maybe he was also looking behind him? I wish they would release the video. I also speculate the call to police about him was from the witness that saw him jump off the roof and they were only able to piece that together after the fact.

I am wondering what the circumstances are that brought him to Deadwood in the fist place and why he borrowed a friend's car but didn't bring the friend. Was this a normal place for him to go? Was he meeting someone?
There is a creek around there but not much water in terms of lakes or ponds or rivers - only a huge amount of wilderness, canyons and mountain lions.

The two cell towers I could dig up are Verizon, which is right above Seth Bullock's grave, and an ATT one northeast of town. Chris disappeared within a half mile of both, but I assume the radius they searched was centered around where he went missing based on the description in this article

What you don't see on this map is the car, which was found right across the street from the casino, and the welcome center camera, which is directly across the street from the volin street dot.

What I don't get is why they searched the area around the Visitor's center initially, and where or what piece of clothing they found. It makes a big difference if it was his hat versus a shoe.
My other questions have to do with the Saloon. Is there any video of him being inside? How did he get on the roof?
There is an OMG presence in SD in this area, I really don't think foul play should be ruled out considering he went to a casino, checked out in a hurry, was seen jumping off a roof and running down the street and then disappeared.

Here is the latest photo posted by his sister, not sure which casino this is from:

It’s my understanding that Chris went there for fun. People do this all the time for gambling etc. deadwood is a fun place for all ages.

Is it normal o go alone though? Just seems like something to go do with a friend...

by vehicle do they mean the motocross dirt bike on his facebook page?
I believe he was driving his friends vehicle. Apologies if I am wrong as I am not as up to date on this missing case. I am still attempting to read all that has been posted.

The only place I will go by myself is the casino. Because it is safe and I sit by a machine and it entertains me. I also stay in the hotel, so I don't have to drive home (25 minutes away).

His behavior is odd that night (sounds like mental health issues, to me), but the going to the casino alone and hotel stay are normal, in my world.

It would be more fun with friends IMO but if you were a serious gambler (not saying he was) or you were feeling lucky maybe a person would just go alone. You’re right though, it would be more fun with friends.

After rereading everything again in my opinion with LE not confirming that he was being chased, only that he acts as though he is, it sounds like he is on drugs to me. I remember being 16 and going to an under 18s disco and loads of people were taking ecstasy. I got spiked and it was horrendous. I got so paranoid that some one was trying to get me that I tried to jump out of an upstairs bedroom window onto a ground floor extension below. It was only because it was locked and my mum heard me trying to break the window frame, that stopped me jumping out. I was seeing all kinds of people that wasn't there.
It could also be a mental break.

That was not ecstasy. Definitely something, but not x. Sounds more like lsd.

FWIW...

Drug crimes skyrocket in Deadwood
April 2017

Snipped...
..."The last couple years, the big thing is we have a drug problem," Fuller said. "Those numbers are alarming to me. Most can be contributed to meth possession or distribution, around 99 percent. We're already halfway to last year's totals by the end of March. It's not getting better. It's getting worse."

Absinthe perhaps???

Definitely not absinthe. I've drunk a lot of that myself in the past. It really is not hallucinogenic, contrary to popular myth. Its reputation is based on the very high alcohol level in the old absinthes.
