Jonathan Dalton Gray (14) (Died 2015 or 2016, Halls/Powell, Knox County);
15 year old boy, 14 year old girl, & 10 year old boy – Michael Anthony Gray, Jr. (40) indicted (10/28/20), arrested & charged (10/29/20) & arraigned (11/5/20) with first-degree felony murder, aggravated child abuse, child neglect & abuse of a corpse, plus 16 other counts. No plea entered. Bond is set at $500K. Reduction in bond denied (11/20/20).

11/1/20 Update: Arraignment hearing on 11/5/20. 11/5/20 Update: Gray Jr. appeared briefly with defense attorney Scott Lanzon before Knox County Criminal Court Judge Scott Green & was arraigned. A Knox County grand jury indicted him this month on charges that include murder in the death of Jonathan Gray in 2015 or 2016. Jonathan was no more than age 8 at the time. The judge said he wanted the 3 defendants to come to court Nov. 20 so he can begin preparing a schedule for prosecution.
11/20/20 Update: Judge Scott Green said at their appearances he wanted to bring everyone together Friday to begin setting deadlines & planning for a trial. At this point, all three Grays are to be tried together. Criminal Court Judge Scott Green declined to reduce the bond for the couple's adult biological son, Michael Gray, Jr. Gray, Jr.is being held in lieu of $500K bond. The judge could still consider reducing it if the defense requests to again. Next hearing on 2/4/21.

11/20/20 Update: Knox County: Judge Scott Green said at their appearances he wanted to bring everyone together Friday to begin setting deadlines & planning for a trial. At this point, all three Grays are to be tried together. Shirley Gray also made her first appearance in the Knox County case. Green informed her of the charges. She's being represented by the Knox County District Public Defender's Office. No plea entered. Michael Gray Sr. was prepared to be in court but didn't make an appearance. The family next is due to appear before Judge Green on 2/4/21. Michael & Shirley will be tried first in Roane County & then later in Knox County for their alleged crimes.
12/18/20 Update: Roane County: Hearing was rescheduled. Next for both status hearing on 2/22/21.
