Yes, I think that a lot of these Fort Hood cases seem so outrageous because of the combination of the size of the installation creating an almost urban type environment along with the military having less transparent reporting and investigating policies than what we're used to in the civilian world.
After getting a good night sleep and waking up to no further details in trying to rack my brain about some less insane hypotheticals here. We know or at least can safely assume that he had been ducking this deployment to Korea for a few months so, considering that we now know he's alive, it's logical to assume that his disappearance was a continuance of that. Maybe the army had located him and he felt like the MPs were on the way to collect him so he went to ground, not telling anyone anything this time.
Whatever the reason, I do feel he hid without telling any of his family anything. I think if his wife was complicit she probably would have told a less concerning tale than "he's in grave danger if he's even alive" like "he probably went to Mexico" or something like that, where people would be less frantically searching. In fact, I am currently speculating that the wife might have been a codependent type which could explain her drama when he disappeared and his parents' comments about the marriage and partially explain his reluctance to move.
If I'm correct with this line of speculation so far then it could be that his absence was too much for her to handle and that resulted in her death, either accidentally or intentionally. There are too many possibilities to speculate more specifically on that until more details are released but the thing is, however related to his absence her death might have been he would have been just as uninformed as we were so that military style lack of public details might have been too much for him to take, wherever he was hiding, and came back in person to find out what happened (maybe even holding out some hope that it's not true) which is when he was "located".
I feel now that this is the most probably chain of events and wonder how long it will be before someone releases some information to contradict or confirm it - I expect it would be his parents.
Agree, this military base has been shrouded in secrecy and the number of incidents seems too high- but it is larger than most cities.
I question a lot here…
- Why does someone sign up to be active military and not be ready to be deployed? That is part of the deal and an expectation. Military service is voluntary- he chose it.
- What part of this is due to a military system? Spouses are separated due to deployment regularly- and deployment to Korea is not a war zone.
- What part of this is a young couple who had issues?
- What part of this is mental illness?
- What part is addiction?
- What part is lack of adulting? Immaturity on her part? Why marry a soldier if you don’t like the idea of them being deployed?
Of all the soldiers that sign on and are deployed, deployed to war zones, deployed repeatedly to war zones… away from spouse and children…
And we hear about this one who ran. I’m glad he is ok, I’m sorry she lost her life And hope her death is fully investigated.
Understand the consequences of him going AWOL to avoid deployment are huge.
This is Memorial Day weekend, let that sit a bit. For those of us who have family who were drafted, served in a foreign land, and lost their lives…
This guy who volunteered to serve and went AWOL to avoid deployment doesn’t sit well.
